Film discription: The Dark Knight of Gotham City confronts a dastardly duo: Two-Face and the Riddler. Formerly District Attorney Harvey Dent, Two-Face incorrectly believes Batman caused the courtroom accident which left him disfigured on one side; he has unleashed a reign of terror on the good people of Gotham. Edward Nygma, computer-genius and former employee of millionaire Bruce Wayne, is out to get the philanthropist; as The Riddler he perfects a device for draining information from all the brains in Gotham, including Bruce Wayne's knowledge of his other identity. The scene at 1:40 when riddler screams in fear reminds me of scarecrow using his toxin against carmine falcone in Batman begins. I love how petrified the riddler is by the sight of the bat. This movie was certainly a lot darker than people give it credit for.
I always saw it as punishment for Nygma trying to destroy the very thing that will now haunt him for the rest of his life, the very purpose as to why Bruce became Batman.

It makes sense given Nygma had extracted Bruce's mind before this so it's very likely as a side effect of his machine being destroyed and all gave him Bruce's fear of the bat as well.

Jim Carrey being a demented and troubled genius actually fits well with his acting and not just an over caffeinated quirky guy.

The end really didn't really shock me either he was so obsessed with his work that he needed something else to be passionate about and that was bruce Wayne and he loved to ask so many questions and try to solve them he got insane no hard to figure out pay attention he wanted to be a God.
Just like in Sonic the Hedgehog.
He seems like he has some sort of mental dissorder the way he acts in real life. It is off putting because I thought he would be different. I haven't met him I qm just saying he acts weird outside of movies.
Essentially Riddler gets all the knowledge sucked out of his brain with only Batman's traumatic experience. So him saying he's Batman is way more unsettling than it needed to be. I love it!
I think it has to do more with his whole arc, he began admiring Bruce Wayne, to the point that he starts imitating him because he thinks he got over that traumatic experience, but when he learns the truth, that who he admired was a fake persona or just half of what he thought, and understands why that happened, to see that the person you wanted to be so hard still had issues with his trauma, he completely snaps and just thinks he's Batman. But I also like your interpretation.
I also like the "Too many questions" callback line. Same thing Bruce said to Nigma in the beginning of the film.

Good point. Love Nolan's trilogy but this film deserves way more respect. Also, it sounds like something Liam Neeson would say in Batman Begins.

@@tubbyduck5317 he already killed the Joker, and that didn't stop his cruzade or his pain, that's why he had to put Two Face down, to save Dick from a life of hate and revege, to also end Harvey's suffering. As in Batman & Robin, that version of Batman doesn't even kill, it's a really interesting arc going from Burton's Batman to Schumacher's Batman.

It sure is! And it's poignant since for Bruce, he had learned to let go of the pain from his parents' deaths and was willing to give up being Batman, but seeing Gotham City still needed him, and how he had to save both Chase and Dick from death, it made him realize he doesn't have to be either Bruce Wayne or Batman. He's both, because he can CHOOSE that path for himself. :)

I couldn't wrap my head around Bruce being a different looking person, at age 4, I was stuck in gear 1 & literally supressed the memory of this movie until years later in 05 finding out this move actually happened .
It's amazing how similar Two-Face's death is in this and the Dark Knight. He flips a coin to decide whether he's going to shoot Batman and a younger man. As he flips his coin, Batman intervenes causing Two-Face to fall to his death. The coin lands on the "Harvey" side.

Spacey Cave Co. No I was very much not a kid, nor a grown up when I first watched this. I was in my early teenage years wanting to watch something new to watch. The Dark Knight series was of course great, but as I had grown tired of Nolan’s trilogy, I was hungry for something new. Then I found it. Starring the villain as who might be my favorite Actor now, Jim Carrey. I remember the first scene with the little chamber of acid and. I remember the shivers I got just seeing my favorite Villain, Two-Face in such form. So different from The Dark Knight. Beautiful memories I will take with me into my adulthood.
This was the Batman film I grew up watching. I'm 28 now and it still is a guilty pleasure lol

Jim Carrey was brilliant as the riddler.
Sure it’s not what you would expect now a days but he took the script and made the best of it.
As a kid at first I thought the reason why the Riddler was screaming in fear was because Batman was about to do more damage to him but as an adult I realize why he was really screaming in fear see now he inherited the memories that Bruce had when he was a boy of his fear of bats and now the Riddler's experiencing them first-hand Riddler has got a far worse fate than death and that's having his brains melted so bad he don't know which way is up
Man Jim Carrey in his 90’s prime would’ve been a legendary Joker for the ages my god...
No he still didn't have that it factor. Late 2000's when he had a couple of dramas under his belt he could have been a passable joker. That role doesn't suit him though, joker still has some seriousness to the character. Jim still to campy and over the top

It's a very shitty movie, but this line gets me every time: the way TLJ says it and the choice of words are the real essence of two faces, in almost all the rest of the movie he is joker, still a great actor.

The Batman's Riddler is so disturbing, but this Riddler's fate is far worse. His mind is completely broken (and would have been killed off due to a tumor created by his machine).

the curious thing is that in the cancelled fifth Batman film in one of the dialogues Batman mentions that the Riddler died of a brain tumor two mouths after he was sent to Arkham because he absorbed several minds.

I think in novelization by Peter David it is way better as Two Face lunges for a coin and clings on a girder. Grayson accuses him of being coward, not able to make decisions without a coin. Two Face flips a coin one more time, looks at the result, then says to Robin "You owe us, kid" and commits suicide by falling into watery grave. Batman then says to Robin "You just showed Two-Face his real face. The rest was his decision. Maybe his first genuine decision in years".

This scene terrified me as a kid just seeing riddler’s deformed head and then seeing him scream in fear broke me as a kid. Now watching this movie I’ve gain a lot of respect for it and I still consider this movie good even when I was a kid this was my favourite Batman movie.

Always loved the ending when it showed the Dynamic Duo running off into the darkness, into future adventures. Was pretty cool for me as a kid because Robin’s my favorite DC hero and this movie was his origin story. Hope that whenever they do get around to having another live action Robin origin movie, they end it with a similar shot. Would be pretty cool.

This was the best quote in the whole movie because it sums up the title of it: Batman Forever.
The story of Bruce's struggle to determine what he wanted at such a point in his life, including whether or not he wanted to continue being Batman; the burden of having to take on two arch enemies who both blame him for what they became and want to destroy, and then end, his life; and then trying to prevent Dick Grayson from succumbing to his own demons, while under presented, was still a good concept, and has its own place in Batman lore.
I'm in the minority here but I'm gonna make my list of favorite batmen and kilmer is number one

I love how Riddler and absorbing man from hulk 2003 have similar and very poetic downfalls. Both tried to steal/ absorb important things about our heroes, only in the end for them to lose their minds because they couldn't handle the true source of their strength: trauma and the worst kind of nightmares imaginable

That was such a phenomenal plot twist. Edward Nigma was both the Riddler AND Batman the whole time! It really perpetuates the theme of their being "two faces", or in Nigma's case, three! A very underrated Batman which completely rewrote the lore. Many of the bigwigs at DC comics resigned over the ending because they say it disagrees with the canon of Bruce Wayne being Batman. But a lot of the newer, socially justice minded writers have embraced the development.
This is one of my favorite batman movies. I remember staying up late at my grandmother's to watch it. Good times
I still believe that Val Kilmer has the best voice to play Batman: He does it practicly efortless.
