as a dancer I agree. while counts are great with certain songs and certain styles sometimes its better to just use your knowledge of musicality and stay in the pocket of the music.
The audience being so enthused with her exquisite performance and led to clap is in no way rude, but the highest compliment that she has reached them as an artist and they are fully engaged in her expression of this variation. What a gift of talent and hard work this ballerina is sharing. The clapping is in support and appreciation.

The same happens at the opera or at a piano concerto, etc. Clapping means that you liked/loved the performance. To show respect you should not distract the artist and at the end you applaud with a standing ovation. There are universal codes of behavior. Maestro/conductor Zubin Metha in a very polite and sophisticated way disapproved this nasty habit.

I agree. Its clearly incredibly difficult to do as nearly NO ONE even hits the syncopation right (which is meant to be easier on the dancer), but she gets the closest for sure.
in Russia and most of the post soviet union countries when people are clapping during performance it shows the real enjoyment and highest respect. Meaning I like it so much that I want to clap and even start to dance with the performer. So, for artists there it is not disturbance rather it is something that encourage them to continue and make them feel like oh yeah you are doing right, you make people want to dance/sing with you!!!
She did so amazing!!! I dance so I know that is super hard. Her movements so crisp, on beat, gave the Esmeralda attitude, AND seemed to REALLY enjoy herself! I hope someday I can be even half as good as her!!!!

This is absolutely amazing!! Love the tutu and the music but this ballerina is also very skilled!! She is on the rhythm all the time and her dancing looks great like wow. Clapping is also a habit to show respect in Finland like in Russia. It shows that the audience is really in with the performance.

It shows that they're entertained and like what I do so much that they can't contain their excitement. And don't worry, we don't lose rhythm because the music is so loud that we barely hear the applause, it doesn't distract us at all! But the flashes do. If you shoot us a photo with flash I sincerely hope that you stumble your toes everytime you get up in middle of the night to pee so that the pain completely wakes you up and you can't immediately fall asleep.
As for the applause.This is not the Mariinsky or the Bolshoi Theater. This is a small theater in the small provincial town Petrozavodsk. There are no tourists here. Just being Japanese is exotic here. The atmosphere is homely and warm. The spectators are ordinary people and are proud that there is a ballerina of such a high level in their theater. And they applaud her as if she were their neighbor

We couldn't dance properly because we kept bumping into eadh other and were prone to hit the tables But that was the highlight of the whole year for some of them! And they'd thank us afterwards and all I loved that I danced because it made me happy , and I enjoyed it even more when I made others happy, so I absolutely went there even when my ankle was strained

My company asked me and 4 other girls to perform the Esmeralda variation ( ofc not on pointe and not as many pirouettes bc we are all 9-15, so a little less... KAPOW). Anywho, I’m soo so so so so exited because it’s been my dream to perform this variation, even if it’s for a small little company, and the theaters in a poorer area ( the company is for kids like me, who don’t have much money or a good home life )it’s so exiting omgggg. I want to be this good some day. My father said that it amazed him how good I was getting.

My company asked me and 4 other girls to perform the Esmeralda variation ( ofc not on pointe and not as many pirouettes bc we are all 9-15, so a little less... KAPOW). Anywho, I’m soo so so so so exited because it’s been my dream to perform this variation, even if it’s for a small little company, and the theaters in a poorer area ( the company is for kids like me, who don’t have much money or a good home life )it’s so exiting omgggg. I want to be this good some day. My father said that it amazed him how good I was getting.

The way she moved around the stage is smooth
