So, if and when your ISP is down or for some reason IFTTT servers are under maintenance (I realize that's very unlikely) basically Echo during that period becomes irrelevant ?
Is it possible, to integrate a Harmony Hub WITHOUT the Harmony remote control in the Alexa-TV-speakers-IFTTT system? Because I don't need the harmony remote, when I have an Amazon Echo. I only want to control my TV and speakers with Echo. :)
Quick question if you have a second. If I decide to use Echo with Hue bulbs, are the Belkin outlets also required or do the bulbs handle all the wifi functionality for direct control from the echo? Basically, I want to control 2 fans (Belkin Switches needed), 3 lamps with 5 bulbs total and I desire color controls (stuck here, is that Hue???) and I want to be able to turn them on and off as needed using Echo. Am I correct thinking I need 1 Echo, 5 Hue Bulbs and two Belkin Switches? That said, can I power these devices on or off while away, perhaps to turn a lamp on for the dogs? Is that where a WeMo outlet comes into play???
No sure about belkin switches, but I also have WeMo switches that work with the echo. Within the echo, you can add the hue bulbs and the Wemo switch into the same group and i can turn them on and off together.
has Logitech harmony remote 650 as well as tv/receiver and soon to get an echo dot. what else do i need to get that whole stereo tv combo on/off to work aside from the ifttt deal...?
+Robert DiLegge Create my own using the Echo and Nest Channels, its pretty easy to do. But if you want to use a pre-made recipe, search "Echo Nest" you'll probably find a few recipes out there for them.
how do you connect Alexa to control your entertainment system? I know I can link it with the hue lights but have no idea how to link my tv and speakers with it??
I suggest getting the Harmony even without Alexa it is a very functional remote. It can be set up for very specific functions. The fact Alexa is now part of the integration just makes it that much more amazing.

hi, when you said you can ask alexa to change the hdmi on tv, so if you say, "alexa, turn on xbox" it will turn on over watching tv.....how do you do this please?
atyl1972 you need a Logitech Harmony Hub. Look on RUclips there are several videos with Harmony Hubs. You can pick them up for less than $60 new online.
As long as you start with, "Alexa, trigger" you can say anything you want. You *have* to say 'trigger' for IFTTT voice commands. So, you can say, "Alexa, trigger TV on", but you *cannot* just say, "Alexa TV on".
Lol my Alexa did soooo many things in my house with this video.

would you happen to know how to hook up door sensors to Echo? Like when a door is open Alexa will say door open....
Im new to this and would ove to follow your set up is it possible to get more setup information on this

It won't work, the 650 is just a remote. You need the harmony home control system to integrate with ifttt and the echo
are you using any wemo switches ?
Is the reading light (night stand) a hue bulb? Which you need to leave the switch on? Or is it a light switch that controls a regular bulb? Thanks!
+BattleBorn Caz Hue Bulb. Left on all the time.
+tamtamg thanks!
what I need to get thing started ?
there are so many companies for automation but what I should pick ?
Shane Phillips smart home nice but only one I can find is US standard. I need UK sta.standard
Which IFTTT recipe did you use for the Nest? Going to set mine up tonight

Thanks for the quick response. I looked at some of the premade recipes but none really stuck out. I've never messed with IFTTT but can't be too hard.
+Robert DiLegge Try they Alexa skill Reflect Connect
Can you pair multiple commands? For Example,
"Alexia Relax Mode"
It will turn on the tv and dim the lights or do you have to do each one individually?
yes
+Aaron Levy you could do this with eventghost and links ai on a computer
can i use engergenie with amazon echo?

If you get the Logitech Harmony hub, you can set up an IFTTT trigger so when you say "Alexa trigger Xbox", it starts the Xbox activity.

and is it connected to a hub
can we book cabs movies order stuff like food etc
Yes, Uber and Dominos Pizza is supported through the app
So what happens if you actually have people over in a loud environment?
+McDeth187 you use the remote control.
McDeth187 Shout everyone to 'shut the fuck up' then quietly state your Alexa command.
can u said: alexa turn ON Tv ?
For IFTTT, you have to include the key word, "trigger" for commands. Past that, you can program it to respond to anything.
can I use something else like "Turn On" ?
As long as you start with, "Alexa, trigger" you can say anything you want. You *have* to say 'trigger' for IFTTT voice commands.

Alexa, turn on can I replace the word trigger
No. At least, not that I'm aware of and not with IFTTT.
