We've been testing the Amazon Echo, a home Bluetooth speaker that also connects to Amazon's new digital assistant. like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
When he says Alexa stop, I feel like the thing starts holding a grudge and will one day blow up itself in his house XD

This demo didn't impress me all that much. It just seems like a slightly glorified Siri. I'll wait till it gets some features that can actually control stuff around the house, like lights and the TV, thermostat, becomes more knowledgable, etc. great concept, just needs a lot of improvements for the next one.

It does control lights. You would like it, it does some stuff Siri can't and Amazon is working fast adding stuff all the time. It would be nice if it had battery and Bluetooth output or line and mic out

do i need to buy a wireless router to use this? I have the echo but i have an ethernet connection with att uverse. Do I need to buy a separate router and hook that up to my modem??
Amazon banned my account because my friends kept ordering PS4s from my Amazon echo lol. I had 1 click set up and they would always say "Alexa order me a PS4" and i'd have it delivered the next day. After the 4th or 5th one I sent back for a refund they banned my account, it doesn't let me order anything else now.

You can set up a PIN so it requires a passcode before ordering something.

This product is a great idea, always on, always ready.
I would add some extensions to it, like the apple's old wifi express things, so you can plug that into a wall socket, it would connect to the thing and extend it's range.
Are you guys currently still using the Amazon echo? I'd like an update if it has its practical uses in everyday tasks or you've just stored it somewhere in the closet by now haha.

Does it work with audible?
A cool windows program I recently came in contact with is "Voice Attack" ($8) with that you can do many things commanding your PC with the voice. I bought it to use with 'Elite:Dangerous' but you can use it with basically anything :)

You can actually buy things (not just music) now. You can also set a purchasing security code and the unit will ask for the confirmation code before purchasing anything. Of course this is more than a year since this video was posted. I don't have one of these yet, but I will be getting one once they come back in stock. I'd say that this device is a success for Amazon. They had to make a whole lot of them to keep the price down and they are out of the last batch they received. That tells me they are in demand.
What I find amazing is that you can get started with voice control (Amazon echo, Echo remote, Bluetooth light bulb, and a wireless outlet for less than $350.00. I know that sounds like quite a bit, but if 5 years ago you'd have told me in just 5 years I could get started with home voice control for less than $2000.00 I'd have asked what kind of good drugs you were on and where did you get them.

Here's a funny thing. I have my Amazon Echo sitting next to me while I watch the video. When you asked how many startrek episodes there are, your Alexa couldn't answer and mine heard the command and answered 80. !
Ordered one yesterday and I'm so glad this review mentioned that it doesn't have an aux-in jack. It's a deal-killer and I'm canceling my order now.

I jumped on this months ago and just received my email telling me to order it. I was amazed to see that I won't have it until April! People hammer on Apple for it taking a while to get a new iPhone and the wait for the Apple Watch, but MAN, that's a LONG wait for something like this IMO.
In terms of Electricity, will it work worldwide, or is it just come with 110 volt plug which works only in the USA?
on the one I have there is no transformer on the plug just goes straight into the wall so I don't know if connecting it to an international plug adapter would work. I don't see anywhere that it would accept 220 but then again I don't have the manual right in front of me and may just have to look again.
on the device, please check see what the required voltage reads?? e.g 110-220V or just 110V?
I want to set my wake up word to "Computer" and am hoping that they release a Majel Barrett-ish voice pack.

Just ordered mine on 2/19/15 and its expected to be shipped between July 2 and August 1st this summer. got the invite after about 5 - 10 days later after asking for one. and as a prime member what the heck. One major concern, will it have enough memory for updates, it is a beta product, or are all updates via the cloud (cloud gets updated instead of hardware). other than that i understand that its a kitchen product but does it have audio out put to attach nicer speakers for richer sound. Amazon is onto something big here i think.
So far I've been unable to get Alexa to read my To-do-list out loud. Is this a feature?
Also, can you get Alexa to read a reminder out loud at a given time?
What's really funny is that I got the Echo today in the mail!
The Moto Voice feature on my 2014 Moto X seems better than this in every way except for music. Not only do I have access to Google's much more powerful Knowledge Graph, I can customize the activation phrase to whatever I want and use it when my phone is still in my pocket. It also knows when I'm driving, allowing me to send and receive text messages while driving without having to look at my phone, which is super useful.

I bought a battery backup on Amazon that can charge cell hones, power Laptops. It has 32,000 mah of charging power. Got a 75 watt cigarette lighter inverter , sliced a 12 v wire and wired it to the inverter with duct tape not to take the inverter apart. Then plugged in echo and used hotspot for wifi and I put all the stuff in a carry case and I can take it anywhere

for the record, I love mine! on a side note iHeart Radio is not a European thing, I've been using it for years in the states and its got 85% of my local radio stations available on it.
