+Yuriy Man (TechX) And forgot to mention, your new house is f'ing gorgeous! I thought the other one was great & had a good view.. Great choice. That is all.
+Itz Phantom Of course. It's actually slightly unnatural how your uncle intrigues me. Maybe we're just synced on the same GeekWavelength, idk. Either way, tell your uncle I said keep it going. There's not many youtuber's that do such a niche work. Thumbs up.
+Yuriy Man (TechX) Thanks Yuriy. We feel pretty lucky on finding this house. I guess there was a bit more than luck involved. Between considering 10 different cities to move to, and scouring houses in most of them, I probably looked at 5000+ houses online. There were some pretty interesting houses in some of the other cities we were considering on moving to, all unique in some way.
solid setup and beautiful house! where abouts in alabama if you don't mind my asking? looks a little like northeast alabama. i'm around the birmingham area. hope you enjoy your new place. i'm in the process of putting together my HA setup even as we speak (mostly hobbled together old attempts of HA components, mixed with new tech, e.g. the echo, smartthings hub, et al). thanks for the vid!
+Seth Messer We are also near Birmingham, in Vestavia Hills. Love the new place, and the Fall weather here is wonderful! I'm sure we will pay for it next summer :) Nice to find a fellow geek in the neighborhood. Lemme know if you know of any local activities or clubs you find of interest.
+Bruce Winter too funny; I'm south of you in Hoover. There was a maker's meetup, mostly for robotics related stuff, but I haven't seen much from them in months. There is also BOSS (Birmingham Open Source Software) meetup, as well as a JS-specific meetup (there are .net and java ones too, last I looked, but my livelihood is based on OSS so I don't participate in those). Lastly, I saw that the Barnes and Nobles at the Summit (on hwy 280, right off of hwy 459) is having a small maker faire this coming weekend (www.barnesandnoble.com/h/makerfaire). Hope that helps!
Other than timers and calendar reminders, the Echo currently is not able to wake up on its own, like you would need for it to tell you about door sensors. If you have a home automation system that can do sound on its own (probably not smartthings), you can link that system to the echo speaker via bluetooth. I show an example of that here: ruclips.net/video/-2Ya3Lf5XSk/видео.html
Your other house you were controlling your blinds. I have Somfy automatic binds and have looked at the Zwave to RTS control. Is this what you used, and if so, how was your range with it. My experience with Somfy devices is they have range issues.
+dahur Yep, I had the older ZURSTI Zwave -> RTS interface. I would hope the newer one is similar if not better. I was just at the edge of range issues, placing it at an outlet on the lower level that that was about 1/3 from one end, 2/3 the house length from the other, probably about 50'. The furthest blinds worked ok as long as I made sure the 6" somfy antenna was partly exposed, not buried in the blind. I had 15 blinds, barely fit the 16 available.
+Bruce Winter I bought the WiFi >RTS interface last year, and I couldn't get it to work more than about 12'. For $200 I would have thought the range would be better, and I had to return it. I have blinds on the front of my house, and blinds on the back in the kitchen, and they're about 35' - 40' apart. My Chronis timer is in the middle and works perfectly on all of them. My Somfy remote(s) will not, I have to move close to the blinds, and all the antennas are out. For years I've been wanting to control my blinds via voice. I may try the Zwave>RTS interface. Just got Alexa today.....
+Bruce Winter thanks. I'm outside the USA and using 868 z wave frequency. Using Fibaro HC2. Waiting for someone to integrate it with Amazon echo. If you haven't already, look into Iridium Mobile for the UI.
hi ... im newbie... can you pls tell me that all zwave and zigbee compatible devices are compatible with smartthings hub? like xiaomi supports zigbee... so can we link it with samsung hub? thx
Hi! Bruce I scanned the comments here and didn't see the exact name/model for the water lights you mentioned. I like your image in particular and would like to create the same effect. Would you mind sharing the manufacturer/model?

Any idea on a way to get the Echo to give audio alerts with the Samsung Smartthings door sensors?
I think I saw a NEEO remote in the video. Any reviews on that? I've pre ordered a couple but still Waiting for delivery.
+Haris Naseer
Sorry, I don't have a NEEO remote, looks well done though. Will watch for review on that, thanks for the tip.
