So what about using pickle forks and heavy hammer to get that pitman arm off the gear box?

It took me a day to remove the pitman arm and ended up removing the steering box and broke one of the 3 bolts is a 7/16-14 coarse, I put a grade 8 and blue lock tie on it.
I was able to removed the pitman arm with a big regular cheap remove tool.
Don’t torque more than 60 fpounds your steering box.
I wish I found this video before I started

Just a heads up.(33mm. Or. 1 5/16). Not 1-15/16. The video shows 1-15/16. Otherwise awesome video, and thanks for the tip of cutting the slit. Makes life a LOT easier. Wrench on 🔧 !

I believe I misspoke in the video, it is 33mm or 1-5/16 as corrected by another poster below.

Taking my pitman arm off was a breeze. Putting it back on has proved to be a nightmare. I got a 2wd f150 so no frame in the way but still hard as hell to turn and get up to 200 lbs of torque

This truck had a severe death wobble. All of the components were original and the truck sat for a long time before I got it. I went through and wholesaled everything.

seen some guys just snug the pitman arm with an adjustable wrench and have it work fine lol. I even went as far as to ask an old school mechanic about it, he pretty much said if its tight enough for the nut to not fall off, its good.. dont need anywhere near 200 ft lbs, thats more of a "safety" thing so they don't get sued if your steering slips.

I try to do things to the book as much as possible, and while it may seem overkill, I certainly don't want my pitman arm to come off while driving.

ACH is Right. You Torque UnderCar Suspension Components to what the Manufacturer say to Torque them too..
"We do not wonna hear that Customers were killed because we applied "SawMill" Mechanics Logic of --" That's Tight Enough B.S. Practices" , instead of using Manufacturers Torque Specifications.
Once a Buddy & I worked @ the same Shop in Fullerton, CA...He didn't Tightened the CV Axle Assembly properly...When the man & wife exited the Freeway the CV Axle almost came apart....No one was KILLED.
At the same Shop I was trying to be Cute while talking to the Owner of the Car ( a Woman ). While Lifting the car on a Lift , about 24 inches up , part of the Car fell off..You're suppose to Press Down on the Center Front of a Vehicle & the Rear Center of Vehicle after you've Raised the Vehicle 12 inches , then continue Raising the Customers Vehicle because it's SAFE now....I always did that , but that Day of
      "Being Cute" caused some embarrassment.
@ an Arco Gas Station on Atlantic/San Antone : after filling vehicle up here in Long Beach , as soon as I drove off the Island and trying to straighten the car up heading South on Atlantic , the da_ _ Left Front Tire Wheel went into a 45 Degree Angle because the Upper Control Arm had CRACKED.....
....Fixed it @ Arco Smog Pros where we worked but it had to be Towed....Coulda killed myself & 12 others on the 20 mile run from Long Beach to Fullerton.
I'll end with this 'cause I know I've worn your Ears off : "You might wonna pray to God & Sonny Jesus that the person that's working on your Car is Detailed & enjoys using Manufacturer Torque Specs when it comes to Tightening your Tire Wheel Lug Nuts and those UnderCar Suspension Components like the Idler Arm & Pittman Arm... ( BTW , those are just 1 % of UnderCar Vehicle components.

With only road driving, my 2001 f150 with a moog idler arm goes out faster than a motorcraft.
