my interpretation of this song, which could very well be wrong, but what i think of it would be that he’s talking about a relationship in which when he’s drowning and needs her to give him her hand, it burns, meaning it hurts him, yet she’s cold inside. she’s cold to him, and it hurts him a lot, so he constantly feels like he’s drowning, the dam is always pushing him. this explaining why he keeps saying we’re happy to go if you want, maybe speaking about him being fine to let them go, only if she tells him to and admits that she’s being cold to him and doesn’t really care about their relationship. when he said i only exist when you’re weak, could also show that she only cares about him because he helps her when she’s weak and down, but when she isn’t, she hurts him and acts cold towards him.
