La Palma volcano: Drone video shows torrents of molten rocks flowing in lava streams

- Drone footage released by Spain's Geological and Mining institute (IGME) on Wednesday showed rivers of red hot lava flowing from La Palma's Cumbre Vieja volcano in the 7th week of its eruption.
IGME and Spain's Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC) footage from Nov. 2 showed volcanic tubes and torrents of molten rocks flowing fast through the various lava streams.
Spain's military emergency unit (UME) flew a drone near the volcano to asses the evolution of eruption, showing thermal images of lava streams.
Since the eruption began on Sept. 19, lava from the volcano has covered nearly 900 hectares (2,200 acres) of land and destroyed more than 2,500 buildings.
More than 7,000 people have had to evacuate their homes, but no one has died in the eruption.

The volcano is erupting for almost 2 months now.
The Iceland volcano erupted for 5 months.
Kilauea has been going since 1983. But new very shallow earthquakes have been detected under la palma which could be the partially emptied magma chambers collapsing. Or worse case scenario. A new intrusion of fresh magma breaking apart the rock layers
@@grinningpinhead3961 I think its refilling. They've had a few quakes rated over five and above in the last week. The dome is still rising, and the magma still has some pressure behind it.
Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

because there are zero deaths. volcanic soils are hard, and very steep, which favors the absence of loose sediment soils, and instead of rivers there are ravines that are more straight and steep. On the continents when four drops of rain fall, hundreds of people die from rising rivers and mudslides.
They can move to Gran Canaria or other island of the Canary Islands if the airports aren't closed.

This is very sad, la Palma getting destroyed, people helplessly watch losing what they own...

What is lava molten?
You mean why? Two main reasons. One is that heat from the formation of the planet is very well insulated from being lost to space, so heat from billions of years ago is still stuck. How well insulated is it? Insulated enough that liquid water can exist on the surface and the ground cool enough for life to thrive. Second, radioactive decay from elements such as uranium gives off energy which causes heating. Given that those two reasons allow for plate tectonics and convection of heat within the outer core and mantle, frictional heating is a tertiary reason for the heat.

The earth was very hot after it formed. It was like one giant blob of magma. When the outside part cooled down it trapped the heat like a blanket.
Radioactive decay is when unstable elements break down into more stable ones. When they do this, it gives off energy. That energy is absorbed by surrounding material and causes it to heat up. Same principle as a nuclear power plant, but in slow motion.
