Luckily, OP's wife didnt go painting so he went to her and put Jim on loudspeaker. Jim confessed to OP to being in contact with Jess for 3 years and Jess basically knowing who OP's wife is and details about their life. Jess had sent Jim pictures of OP's wife kissing guys at the bar they went out to but Jim never sent them to avoid making things messier. So in the end Jess made false pics of both of them, OP and wife are ok but are scared about Jess.

That is truly disturbed behavior. They should genuinely look into getting a restraining order against the ex, possibly even nail her for stalking, and/or for defamation with those maliciously falsified images. Her behavior is straight up pathological and needs to be dealt with swiftly and harshly; she will escalate if left unchecked. And CERTAINLY never speak to/interact with her. Those types of people THRIVE off of any miniscule or perceived attention from their targets.

My parents really tried to make me keep pictures of abusive ex as a lesson. My dad caused a lot of issues when I was dating him because he didn't like him so he took it out on me. I felt embarrassed about everything my dad told family members and made me feel like an idiot. They even told me to get over it when I finally told them that he sexually assaulted me. I shredded those photos and then found my husband.
Im a graphic designer... photoshop now has generative ai embedded into the photo editor. Meta data can be changed, and you would be surprised what we can do with photoshop :)

One exception on a case by case basis: exes who have been a serious issue beyond relationship mess. Like Jess in the first story, who kept up the pushing for a year until OP cut all contact and moved towns. Then you may want/need to inform your current partner. Not on the 2nd date or anything, but after a couple months should do. My cousin had an ex who caused troble every couple years. So she informed her now husband. That he had issues and they started dating when she was 14 and he 25. He did try to get close with husband, husband recognized him and told him to get lost.
I have to disagree. And I consider myself somewhat grown woman also, I am over 30. Me and my SO have talked about exes and shown pictures. My fiance has met my ex and most hook-ups and vice versa. And for me, that is just healthy. 😅 But I do think it is great to have differing opinions! Just never have even thought that it could be considered weird😄 So I am with Sam on this one!
OP should compare his social media and personal photos from the time the ex says they hung out and when the "photos" were dated to show his wardrobe at the time. Or he should look at the Ex's social media to see if he can find inconsistencies in where she was or even see if he can find who his featured were photoshopped on to. If he can match the clothes to someone in her social media he can unravel the thread of lies by finding that dudes socials.

My wife and I did the same. But why would I care enough to remember those names fifteen years later? And I never saw any photos. It's the same for her. She knows my last ex, because my last ex was still friends with my mom and showed up one day early on in our relationship for unrelated reasons. First story, I have friends who are really god at photo shop (not me, I suck), but my theory based on how they do it is that Jess was there with a guy that looked a lot like OP and simply altered the face, tattoos, and muscle definition. This would have made it much more difficult to spot inconsistencies and most of the metadata would have already been correct. *If I got some part of that wrong, my apologies, this is just what I understood from friends who understand these things, I myself know next to nothing.
To the cheater in the cheating husband story…. Unfortunately, your wife IS weak for still being with you. And people will always think and say that about her. Because of your actions, that is now her lot in life. People might say “oh she believes in the sanctity of marriage, that’s why she stayed.” But that’s not true. If she had believed in the sanctity of your vows, they were broken when you cheated and broke them. If she believed in the religious sanctity of marriage, you also broke that too and god in the Bible makes allowances for divorce in the cases of abuse and, yes, cheating. Therefore, she stayed completely out of her love for you not the sanctity of your marriage and therefore, was too weak to put her own self respect and worth above her love for you. She is weak. You made her that way. You might think the damage you did is over… but this is her reality forever more… you need to do everything you can daily to correct this. If you get called out by one of your wife’s family members for something heinous you did, I guarantee it hurts your wife more than you. Take it with Grace because you’re only getting called out for the thing you literally did.

For any women that think that staying with somebody that cheated on you is some type of valor. He did not say anything about who she was as a person besides the suffering that she endured for him. So he sitting there praising her not for who she is as a person not for what he might’ve lost. But for her suffering she was rewarded for her suffering with his praise. The first story reminds me of an ex friend I had. She would always obsessed with her partner’s exs or who the guys moved on with. Even those she casually dated. She ended up stalking and working at the same dermatology office as one of her ex’s girlfriends(at the time). She ended up getting fired for stealing skin care products a few weeks into the job, so whatever mission she had failed 😅

My husband knows about my ex's because my first ex is my oldest child's father (well sperm donor but i digress), second ex is still kind of a friend of mine (i hear from him either once every 6 months or once every 2 years there is no in between 😂), last ex was a piece of work and it was kind of difficult not to bring him up cause when i met my husband I was still dealing with a lot of issues from that ex, and then last year he ended up living at the same apartment complex as us so it was a safety thing that my husband knew about him. He ended up getting banned from the apartment complex later down the line anyway.

As well as the tattoos he didn't have then being in the photo. Jess doesn't know when he got each tattoo to have the correct ones in the photos, whereas the wife having been with him since that summer before the first photo in December 2019, should have a good enough idea of when he got each tattoos to at least have strong doubt about those photos, as well as having been with him for 7 years whereas she's not ling met Jess. Not 100% because it is a strange situation to be in and very convincing evidence. I feel like I'd be quite sure it was false but it would make me anxious with how convincing it was and not make me feel comfortable to be 100% sure. But it takes A LOT of time and work to patch that. & let's say the victim actually got to be completely over it, no more resentment, trust repaired (already goofy as hell and unlikely). The cheater will never be the victim's true safe space. Because they know that if the goin gets tough, the potential of cheating exists. Thinking cheating makes a relationship better is literally as delusional as saying getting addicted to crack makes life better if you get clean because having a regular, poor bachelor life with a dinky job & getting to eat about a meal a day feels like luxury in comparison to sleeping on the pavement and being sick from withdrawals between finding money and smoking more crack. I like your analogy. The wife is NEVER going to be able to trust OP again. Not fully, even if she deludes herself into thinking she does. Especially since the one-night-stand was with a co-worker. Every business trip, long night, etc. is going to get her thinking in the back of her head about him cheating. It creates this weird insecurity that isn't healthy for the wife or OP to have to live like that. Yes, a full-blown affair that lasted months/years is worse than a one-night-stand but it's still damage that can never FULLY be repaired. It might look as good as new on the outside, but the wife will now always have those doubts about her husband. I've been with my husband for over a decade and I have no idea who most of his ex's are or what they look like. Similarly we've talked about my ex's but I never felt the need to tell him their names or show him pictures. Even pictures of my ex from my only other long term relationship. Maybe that's uncommon but to me it's way weirder to show pictures of your ex to your spouse. (Unless it's like a concert or vacation photo maybe) I just don't understand why it's relevant. I think for the first part of the first story, the wife already showed she was trustworthy by calling OP when she felt uncomfortable - she should be able to decide whether she wants to stay friends with that group, and exercise her own judgment rather than having OP tell her what to do. First story, I have friends who are really god at photo shop (not me, I suck), but my theory based on how they do it is that Jess was there with a guy that looked a lot like OP and simply altered the face, tattoos, and muscle definition. This would have made it much more difficult to spot inconsistencies and most of the metadata would have already been correct.
*If I got some part of that wrong, my apologies, this is just what I understood from friends who understand these things, I myself know next to nothing.

The first story reminds me of an ex friend I had. She would always obsessed with her partner’s exs or who the guys moved on with. Even those she casually dated. She ended up stalking and working at the same dermatology office as one of her ex’s girlfriends(at the time). So Sam, it's not about sharing information about ex's but more like why would you keep the pictures of all of your past relationships in the first place? Like if it was a previous marriage then maybe thats understandable, etc. But there are people that takes it as if you haven't moved passed that relationship. But it takes A LOT of time and work to patch that. & let's say the victim actually got to be completely over it, no more resentment, trust repaired (already goofy as hell and unlikely). I've been with my husband for over a decade and I have no idea who most of his ex's are or what they look like. Similarly we've talked about my ex's but I never felt the need to tell him their names or show him pictures. Even pictures of my ex from my only other long term relationship. Maybe that's uncommon but to me it's way weirder to show pictures of your ex to your spouse. (Unless it's like a concert or vacation photo maybe) I just don't understand why it's relevant.
