I just finished my pump on my truck (02 regular cab longbed). You don't need the body lift to do the job. Removing the rear wheel helps and lifting the rear for more work room also helps. The game changer is having a motorcycle jack. I was able to move the tank up, down to get access to all the components to disconnect pretty easily then just roll the tank out from under. Not sayin the job is fun or easy but could have been much worse. Hope this helps ya all.

Just did this project today. I was able to get to all the fuel and vent hose connections without lowering the tank. My issue was getting the fuel out of the tank. And I ended up having to disconnect and lower the tank with it full of gas. But the fuel pump replacement was relatively easy. And I did it by myself.

  • @billybobsowbreath1774

I did a fuel pump replacement on my Ford Ranger by TILTING THE BED to one side. It's far easier and faster than dropping the tank. And I did it by myself in a few hours. I could have done it faster, but I was in unknown waters so I took my time. If my F150 needs this done, I'll do it the same way. Tilt the bed, or remove it.
If you have some sort of overhead gantry, or large tree limb and a hoist - then it would be even easier. All you have to do is tilt it up enough gain access to the pump. You can also get to the tank-to-frame connections easier too.
For the life of me, I don't understand why the factory doesn't put in an inspection plate to get to that pump. How much could it possibly cost them? A few bolts. Big deal.
Thanks for the video! It was interesting to watch how you did this job "by the book".

I replaced my 2004 Expedition but I notice the tank is showing empty after driving 300 miles but then it will only takes 20 gallons and it is full,it is supposed to be 28 gallons tank capacity,so I guess the float sending unit is not accurate. How much do you charge for a job like that.?

I do not know if this help anybody but I rusted a tank strap on my Ford F250 l.d. , I went and bought another strap which called it to be 31.5 " , when I went to installed it , it was too short, thankfully the parts man kept on looking for an alternative which was 34.75" and it fit.I have the part number it is Dorman 578-132 , it fits a F250 4x4 . I forgot it is a 30.5 gallon tank.

I have a 97 7.3L that is doing the same thing. Your selector switch is probably not the problem, it's either your fuel sending unit or the fuel selector valve. You can short some terminals on the fuel selector valve to determine what the actual problem is.
