- A while back I did a video on The Grunge about adding a backdrop and said backdrop included the custom made photo. I got lots of questions about how I did it, so I promised to make a video. At long last (you don't know how long), Part 2 is here!
I consider the backdrop to be a crucial piece of scenery and a photo backdrop goes a long way toward adding realism to your model train layout. In part2 of this series, we cover adding some more layers, a haze effect, and printing this backdrop using your home printer!

The negative offset is because the image is shifted left (minus), not the frame.
Makes sense! Thanks, Steve!
Spraying the inkjet printed sheet with Krylon Fixatiff should stop it from smugging if the water is on the front of the paper. I haven't used this product in many years and I no longer have a printer to see if the ink soaks through the paper but I think it wouldn't.
Great info. Thanks for sharing. Dave
If you battle to drag layers, you can select the layer you want to change and press the up or down arrow at the bottom of the layers box/tab. Thanks for the great video
Thanks for the tip! I wonder if that would have worked in this case since it seemed to be some sort of software conflict. Either way, good to know!
Point, cut, click, print. No problem. Great video! even if it took 13 times....
Very detailed and informative, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Between this one and the first installment, I really thought the RUclips gods were out to get me! But I muddled through!
Very cool tutorial man!!! This program is alot like paint shop pro I used back in the early 2000s. You said it's called gimp? Is it free to download?
Free to download. They ask for a donation of you like it, but not required. www.gimp.org.
