  • Grinding to top tier as a free to play player with no premium time or high tier premium vehicles took a while and was pretty rough, so I'd like to share a few specific things that I did that helped me grind through faster and made the experience more enjoyable.
    First time trying a voice over and "editing" so I'm still learning the ropes and things are not as smooth as I'd like but I think it came out alright.

    Two More Disclaimers:
    I cannot recommend using the "Free GE" app to get GE, at least in its current state.
    I have used GE I got from the "Free GE" app in the past to purchase a few vehicles (specifically the Cobra King M4A3E2, the Cent Mk.5 Battlepass, and one bush?)
    It was pretty neat back in the day because you could get GE from watching ads so I'd do that while sideclimbing, but last I checked, they removed that option and so now it's just "Get to level X in Clash of Clans clone" or "Sign up for 'free' trial with your personal information and credit card number."
    Also, Gaijin are considering giving RP boosts to people who have top tier in one nation already when researching new nations, but it seems it will take at least a few months for them to make a decision on this so for now, it won't affect how I approach grinding new nations.

    Nice video, the spading part actually helped me grind through some planes from the US tech tree that i was having a hard time with. I think that the grind is painful, but what really makes it awful is the SL grind. For me, researching a vehicle takes less time than grinding for the SL to purchase it, buy a crew, upgrade the crew abilities and spade it. It's very annoying, since you spend so much time researching a vehicle only to not be able to buy it right away and have to grind SL just to buy it and repeat the cycle but in a worse scale for the next vehicle that will be more expensive and more time consuming.

    • @CatWerfer
      @CatWerfer  7 месяцев назад +3

      The SL grind can be very annoying, but I feel like because I go back to play props for fun and I do well enough to profit there, I usually don't have too many issues with SL nowadays.
      It also helps to spend SL during the SL sales during holidays.

    your sub count baffled me after seeing the quality of this video, keep it up! you deserve much more recognition i must say. Also what is your opinion on playing arcade or either realistic considering the skill level of a player is significally low? Cause I play WT with my father together and i am trying to learn him to play realistic because i also see it more beneficial after tier 4-5 but since he isnt much skilled as you would expect, he rarelly get even a single AI kill, but in arcade he gets a few kills just because of the respawns. And now we cant decide if we should just keep on playing realistic or just stick to arcade until he get better at the game.

    • @CatWerfer
      @CatWerfer  7 месяцев назад +1

      Arcade is fun! I played arcade for a long time and it definitely requires skill and can be improved upon. I've seen people get like 30+ kills in one game which is kind of insane, you'd never get that in realistic. I don't remember their channel name but I was just baffled at what kind of goofy stuff you can pull off there.
      Now my specialty is realistic and I only play arcade occasionally. In terms of grind, arcade can be good for unlocking modifications since your plane's flight performance isn't nerfed so much stock and you get multiple respawns, but rewards for new vehicle grind kinda sucks.
      While arcade requires a specific skillset you can learn, they don't quite translate too well over to realistic, and I'm more a fan of the slow paced methodical gameplay of RB, plus rewards are better, so I stick to that.
      TLDR: Arcade is a great starting point for fun furball action and a great entry point into learning the game, but rewards can kinda suck and I personally enjoy realistic more. The learning curve for realistic is much rougher, so I'm gonna try to make some videos regarding that, but I do suggest him coming back to it later down the line, it's an experience that I personally enjoy much more.

    @kattkatt6961 7 месяцев назад

    I mean the way I see premium time, is that I like this game, for sure like it a lot more than an MMO, or heck a lot of modern paid games. 40 dollars a year for premium time if you buy it on one of the sales is a good enough deal for me. If I'm already spending 40-60 hours a week working a job, I don't want the 20 hours a week I have to myself to feel like a whole other grind. Besides, its less than a dollar a week at that rate and anyone in a 1st world country is not hurting that much for cash unless they have more pressing concerns than complaining about an online game.
    Still a very good guide that explains a pretty good way to go about grinding in game.

    I have always played without premium vehicles and premium time in War Thunder. I've been playing USA planes and getting to the 5th rank was the hardest, then it started getting easier. Personally, I find the F-4C the best plane for grinding. Battlerating of 10.0 isn't bad at all and you won't get uptiered to 12.0 like on the F-4E. I used to bomb 2 bases a match and then dogfight and destroy ground targets but as they increased the time bases are respawning I changed the strategy. Now I'm kind of desperate and I have 9m of fuel, drop tank and bombs to destroy 2 bases, but it's a really nice and quick way of grinding because most of the time you'll get to the base first and you'll get about 3500xp a match. This also solves any sl problems because bombing gets you good amount of money.
    Currently, I'm researching F-4J and when I'm done i will unlock the 8th rank and immediately will start researching F-15 (i have F-5E and F-4E).
    833 hours in game, fully f2p and in some time I'm about to get my first 12.3 great jet and it feels amazing

    I would say you hit the mark in the first minute, you wanted to play different and unique vehicles. Most newer players are only interested in what's top tier at the moment. So the grind seems even longer since they aren't looking at the next cool thing but rather the last thing. I always enjoyed trying out all the vehicles that I research even if I don't go and spade them fully in the end.

      Thanks!
      I do agree that most people are only interested in the new shiny planes, and gaijin likes to advertise it cuz it makes them money, but personally I find actually playing top tier to be very unfun.
      The flight models of the top tiers feel great to fly but you never get to use them since games are just missile spam and furballs most of the time instead of close in dogfights. I wish there was an IRCCM-less IR missile only 8v8 dogfight modes.

    I’ve wanted to play planes for a while now but have never really gotten into it, been mostly ground maining on Russia (highest br 8.7) and Germany (highest br 7.7) should I just start with nations I’ve already played or play America or something else? There are specific jets that I would like to learn to use so I can take them to ground rb or Air rb (also bc they look fun). Also is it worth it to buy a $70 pixel plane? I feel like I’d have a shit load to learn if I’ve never played props before that leap in tech. Dope vid btw

    • @CatWerfer
      @CatWerfer  7 месяцев назад +1

      Germany and USSR have pretty good jet options from bottom to top, and I do think it'd be best to stick with the nations you have ground for since then at the very least you can bring the planes you grind as CAS in ground RB.
      Unless of course you want planes from a different nation (US?) significantly more than GER and USSR.
      I would definitely not buy a premium top tier jet until you've gotten at the minimum to rank 4 planes in at least one nation, and even that's a bit of a stretch, buying a top tier premium will just be very painful if you don't have the core air gameplay mechanics down.
      The learning curve is pretty rough, and it's not fun to die once with no respawn in air rb and leave especially when ur new, so you might wanna start with air arcade, which is easier to find matchmakers for at low tier, has more respawns, and will still teach the basic basics like leading and energy. Once at rank 3 ish though it'll probably be best to switch over to realistic.
      I'm planning on making a series about how to get into and learn air rb so if you're interested you can stay tuned, but other CCs have done similar things too so u can go watch them (DEFYN)

    then use the boosters u get usually between 250% and 500% some even stacking to 700% boosters to efficiently research alot.
    also ive recently figured out that the more activity and time spent alive the more rp you get. therefore if you just get a few kills, groundpound when ur teamates are chasing down the last guy you could squeeze the rest of the rp out into the next airplane.

    I’ve got Germany to high tier (my currently highest plane is the Starfighter at 10.7 unless you count the event Su25 at 11.3 that I’ve got and 9.7 ground), what is your opinion on getting the Phantom II for America and the MiG 23 ML for the USSR (at least when they finally do some proper sales) to get grind those TTs? Do you have an opinion on those planes or recommendations as to what plane I should get instead?
    Also what do you think about using the A6M5 ko to get the R2Y2 with which I would then grind rank 6? Or should I rather just grind rank 6 directly with the Zero as I really like it (I already got that thing cause my brother gifted it to me once)

    • @CatWerfer
      @CatWerfer  7 месяцев назад

      The mig-23ML and F-4S are great planes in it themselves, but are in a bit of an awkward spot in the matchmaker at the moment where they will still get majority uptiers into F-16/MiG-29 competition.
      If the F-15/Su-27 really are coming this next update, then the highest BR might go up and so the 11.3s might get more downtiers, making them much better pickups.
      They MIGHT go on sale during the new years sales so that's also worth waiting for.
      They also both get access to radar missiles which you might not have used, but there are plenty of guides online as to how to use them.
      (Again I don't have these planes but I have their techtree equivalents)
      A6M5 ko to R2Y2 is not a bad idea. I personally haven't flown the R2Y2 that much but they seem pretty solid (the first two are sidegrades of each other and the last one is the best).
      I had skipped them initially cuz it wasn't necessary to get all of them to get to the next rank, so I just went down the lines that had vehicles at rank 6.
      With how the .50cals are currently underperforming, the R2Y2s might actually be the best japanese rank 5 fighters.

    What does “track” and “launch” on RWR means? Just got to top tier but i haven’t see this before… also, does aim9j lock people by front?

    • @CatWerfer
      @CatWerfer  7 месяцев назад

      RWR track means that someone has you (or someone near you) locked and can see where you are. RWR launch means that someone has fired a radar-guided missile towards you.
      AIM-9J is a rear aspect only missile so only can detect heat signatures from behind the plane.
      There are a lot of good guides on RUclips that people have made for this if you're curious. I would personally recommend Tim's Variety and Jaek who has done comprehensive videos on missiles, radars, RWRs, and other weapon systems.

    • @CatWerfer
      @CatWerfer  7 месяцев назад

      Thats a very respectable perspective. You CAN make most planes work, even if they don't have any guns *cough arado B-2* but the issue I have with calling all planes good is that especially when I'm giving advice to newer players, I don't want them to get into the mindset of "I'm doing bad because I suck" when they might be playing a vehicle that has an extremely steep learning curve.
      If the swede rank 6 jets work for you though that's great!
      I've personally found them rather lackluster compared to what other nations have to offer around that battlerating, and with realshatter being back, the Swedish Akan 30mms are horribly underperforming (I dump like half my ammo into an F3D and they only die later from crasahing in my J29A video).
      It's just that while it's doable for skilled pilots like you, it may not be so much for less experienced players.

    • @stoyantodorov2133
      @stoyantodorov2133 7 месяцев назад

      You have my respect. I have spaded every single Swedish plane and got around 2.5-4 KDA with everything except the 109 G6 Erla and the J34 which sit around 1.5 KDA. Even the bombers were more fun and effective in air rb than the J34. Absolute pos jet, the J32 felt like a UFO after it.

    • @CatWerfer

      That is an issue, but it has gotten easier since they implemented the roadmap. There's not really a go to way that I grind for silver lions, I used to do the 10 kill wagers in ground rb a lot but I stopped doing them since I have a fair few premium planes that I got from battlepass and warbknds that like to fly out just for fun and they're good enough at making sl that if I buy most vehicles during sl sales, I can usually not have to think about it too much

      I'm guessing this is a recommendation for other people, not me. They agreed and even after I did a dumb and crashed leaving my buddy alone, they were very respectful and they just farmed ground targets next to each other until the timer ran out...
      Probably not the way gaijin intended us to play the game, but you could imagine a world where everyone decided to agree to farm ground targets (or cap points in ground realistic)
