Pena que não falou a sua língua ,mas com certeza foram instruções preciosas ,pelo que vi nos movimentos são dicas que nos tiram de situações de risco na espiral (faca) !!!😃🇧🇷

Its part of our training here in the UK to recover from these situations and I remember my CFI doing this with me back in 1999. A little frightening when the instructor first initiated the spiral dive but it helped me a few years later.

Excellent Larry! My CFI walked me thru this during my training. It's a life saving maneuver!

Larry, when I listen to your narrative, the way you do it...I always think of "Endless Summer" surfing documentary from 60's.

Serious stuff, but necessary. A student is lucky to have Larry Mednick in the back seat.

I imagine myself in the pilot's seat with no instructor and no training. I imagined the remorse I would feel in my final moments. The first person view did it for me. These situations come up quickly and if you don't have the muscle memory to act appropriately you are toast. I'm not going to fly without training. Am thinking of calling you but the wife found out you are in Florida and wants to make it some sort of vacation. That just complicates things. On the other hand, it is kinda a "yes".

At 1.31 The snatch on the control bar was you flying into your own wake turbulence. Watch the video, you're student was pushing forward on the the bar meaning you're not going to be descending or diving anywhere. He also added power in the turn and when you got to 180deg you hit your own wake turbulence and prop wash from the power he just put down.

When you are descending at 1500 FPM your wake is 100’s of feet above you by the time you come around 360 degrees. I am 100% sure the inside wing stalled. I am quite familiar with what wake is and feels like. However I agree that someone flying may think that the roll was induced by wake or turbulence and then they may attempt to roll against the stall which would not have any useful effect. The trike would have been inverted 1 second later. So there is not time to misdiagnose a stalled inside wing when in a spiral and stall recovery (bar in) MUST be executed immediately. Here it is again in a different video with a different instructor. ruclips.net/video/AVGg3QP3mgQ/видео.html

@@LarrySMednick Yeah I think at 2.28 you had a stall when in a bank. No power and bar right forward when in a steep bank will do this even with pretty high airspeed, you loose at least 45% of your lift. My old flash 2 Alpha that was very difficult to stall properly and stable would do it in that configuration. If you do that hard enough and let it continue the inside wing will drop/stall completely and you end up with the nose facing to the ground. Kind of like when a fixed wing enters a spin, you have to hold the nose up slightly too. It does it pretty fast. The wing will be level at that point as you whip round 90 deg, you build up airspeed super fast facing completley down for a moment. I've done it allot in a Quik 912's but never got inverted. You must make sure you have no power on and keep the bar neutral or the speed will bring the nose up so hard you will think you're going to do a loop. I wasn't in the machine but I struggle to see how you where descending with power on and the bar all the way forward in the spiral. You can see the nose come up above the horizon so you are maintaining altitude all the way round. If you look at the road on the ground you can see the snatch on the control bar is 180 deg exactly from the direction of travel this is what's making think its wake. If you look at my video at 5.28 this is 1500 fpm decent, all you can see is ground you can see the VSI centre on the dash goes from 1500 plus to negative the same amount great fun too :-) ruclips.net/video/7e7haOjaCDs/видео.html

chris5327 I appreciate it might be hard to see the rapid descent from the video angle but this was completely power off in a 60 degree bank until adding throttle 1 second before it stalled. Once the nose drops about 30 degrees as it did while banked 60 degrees you can add all the power you want and you cannot stop descending (even if it doesn’t stall). And that is actually one of the main points of this video.

Be nice if there was a computer controlled version of this trike.

    Thanks for the video!
Why did you take over the controls so soon? Why not get the trike in a really bad situation and then get it out of it? You were high enough.
My wing is not as hot as yours and probably easier to recover.
It's a good thing what you and Paul are doing for the safety of trikers all over the world!
