    The Cobra also has the best selection of paint jobs. Frontier clearly want people to get this inexpensive ship and hang onto it for a long time. I don't know about "too good", but it is a really good ship. The only time i'd say a ship is "too good" is when it's actually better than anything else at something you're actually in competition with other people over (eg combat) to the point where you're compelled to fly it. The Cobra doesn't excel in any one area, but it does do virtually anything you want to do in the game. It's speed is really, really nice and there are few ships that are a satisfying to fly as a really well set up Cobra III. It's a pilot's ship, in the same way as a Golf GTi is a driver's car...
    To be honest I think the Cobra III is actually what the entire game is built around by FD - it's the default ship.

    i absolutely love it too for whatever reason i'm really not certain about, maybe it's a desire for doing a more humble approach on things to spice the experience up for a change? because in fact i'm liking it so much so that despite having all these billions and like 29 fully engineered-out ships in the hangar - i still use it occasionally regardless, in a completely engineered-out and tricked-out combat multirole loadout i mean.
    it's a loadout that, at really great cost in terms of building lightweight for a PvE combat multirole, reaches 643 M/S with full tank (so it starts at 1 M/S higher than what an engineered player Mamba can reach and - unlike Mamba - can even go further beyond that as the fuel tank empties). i've never heard anyone call it OP though, and i've never heard anyone call it better than I-Courier - which is better at like 8 out of 10 things when going for the same loadout & engineering philosophy as my Cobra Mk.III loadout does unfortunately (including even in many utilitarian aspects actually, as it doesn't need as much weight and available slot size investment into shields as Cobra III to get to where it at least has to be for me), so i actually feel like a buff for it would be more realistically in order than a nerf.
    so, yeah, don't worry Yamiks - it seems to be just another one of these weird takes on things you oftentimes present to us. i mean, as you're the guy who asked for shield nerfs instead of player-only hull buffs, didn't understand the merit turrets can have on small and nimble ships if the pilot's flying style preference fits with their strengths - and as you're even the guy who basically cried for PS2 Infiltrator buffs way back in the day when i was still playing it and Infiltrators already were the most nightmarish units to face, ruining the experience of all the other regular classes extremely successfully... (as is their job i suppose).

    I'm kind on new to Elite Dangerous. I came over from Eve Online. About 5 weeks in the Pilot's Federation Administration. I've been doing Combat about 2 weeks, and I love my Cobra MK III I actually have fun doing combat in the Resource Extraction Sites. Especially the (High) and (Hazardous) Sites. In the first three weeks of doing trading mission, I've made 623,035 credits. In two weeks of Combat, I have made 322,687,364 credits from bounties. I have equipted the ship with A 4E shield generator, 3-2D shield cell banks, and 3-2E hull reinforcement packages, and 1-1D hull reinforcement package. Once the Gimballed Pulse Lasers drop the shields, I Iet the 1F Multi-Cannons weaked the hulls enough to do a head-on collision. Makes quick work of almost most ships; including Pythons and Anacondas. About the only ship that can withstand a head-on collision with my Cobra is the Imperial Cutter. The Cutter impressed me having 600 MJ of shields, a 720 armor rating, and weighing in at 1100 tons. That was the only time whereby my ship was on the loosing end. I now know to put more tenderizer ( Multi-Cannons rounds) on that ship's hull to headbutt out of commision. Just learned that today. As a trader, I normally can load 28 tons of cargo and still hold my own in a fight. But that means losing the Hull Reinforcement packages. It can be configured to carry 60 tons; but there are many ships that can do better. In my opinion, the Cobra MK III is a top tier ship that handle "when the going gets tough.

Once I got to Colonia, I was burnt out on jumping from star to star and scanning systems endlessly and figured I could have some fun in the Colonia bubble first before heading to Sag A* and then back home to the bubble. So what ship did I buy with the massive payout from being the first to discover about a dozen water worlds and even a couple Earth likes? I could've bought another Krait. I could've bought a Python. I could've bought a FDL. But I remembered how much I loved my Cobra before I traded it for my Krait. I have this Cobra outfitted for bounty hunting and sometimes switch it out for doing the complete opposite and robbing the hapless traders of the Colonia bubble blind and making a clean getaway well before any system authority ships ever make it into the res site in time. I bought this Cobra as a knockaround, fucking around having fun ship and now I'm afraid I might not be completing my odyssey to the center of the galaxy and back any time soon...I'm having too much fun in my Cobra.

    What I like about the triangle is the cost. You can equip one for one task then buy a new one and equip it for another task.
    Leave the 'explorer' (Delta-X) on the edge of the bubble. Park the 'miner' (Delta-M) near some nice rings. Ship the 'fighter' (Delta-F) from A to B for minimal costs when needed (inside the bubble. Outside it may be cheaper to buy and equip a new one). Just the 'transporter' (Delta-T) isn't very roomy.Just too bad I can't pile them all in an Anaconda (both being Faulcon Delacy) and take the entire Delta force everywhere.
    One extra optional internal slot would make it really unfairly OP. ;)

    I love the cobra mk3, it's brilliant. I still have mine, I named it Bulldog after the plane I used to fly with my friend. I went speedbowling in it a couple of days ago and got 4123 m/s out of if as I buzzed the towers. I've used it in pvp, freight running and community goals before they became interstellar initiatives.
    Buy one if you've never tried it commanders, it is just simply great fun to fly whatever you're doing in it.
    Never nerf our cobras devs. We love them too much.

    Good all around, but not OP. OP in comparison to other ships is more of a pvp thing, for pve it's more about how well it handles the content, in which case, to be OP it would have to make any task too easy (if the content is already easy, that's a separate issue).
    Edit: Personally, I prefer DBX for small all rounder ships.

    It's one of my favourite fighter ships, but fact a *combat* ship can be outmaneuvered by it's larger, heavier *multirole* counterpart is utter bullshit, not to mention it overheats easier than the Cobra.

    I love the cobra but the one point that kills it for me is the "wonky cockpit". (Captains chair isnt centralized on the ship).
    Sadly it's what also kills ships like the Python and cutter for me... I love its sleek design but my ocd kicks in when i try to overlook the seat placement.

  • @vib80
    @vib80 4 года назад

    It's Pareto optimal and an example of good game balance. It isn't strictly dominated by any other ship in its class... other small ships will dominate it in any given area, but none will dominate it in all. That's how you make sure ships have selling points.

  • @thepixelcatcher298
    @thepixelcatcher298 4 года назад

    Not sure if it is 'OP' but it is a bargain. I use it for resource gathering and planetary surface scans. The low rebuy cost and high maneuverability is what continues make it so appealing despite having a fleet of more powerful ships. It looks pretty cool too!

    It's only OP for a small ship. You can't output enough damage to take out a Deadly/Elite FDL/Anaconda and probably some of the others too.

    • @milanondrak5564
      @milanondrak5564 4 года назад

      I pvp in mine and often take out elite anacondas and pythons in it. G5 Frag Cannons and burst lasers are the way to go. Use hit and run tactics and your manoeuvrability correctly and you can do amazing things in this small wedge of terror.

    • @markhackett2302
      @markhackett2302 4 года назад

      @@milanondrak5564 Yeah, maybe in the pre engioneers days. NPCs don't have heat and no limit to SCBs and the cobra just plain can't output enough damage to negate NPC spamming SCBs. Hit and run means your ToT is so low they can get away with just regeneration.

    Cobra 3 is fine how it is. Other than bringing its small hardpoints a little closer to the front. The Asp scout needs more internals and the vipers need more maneuverability. Then you have no balance concerns

    I like the Cobra mk3 still got my original stayed in that ship for a very long time, at least until I got my Python and frankly that's what I view it as.... a mini Python good at a lot of things but not great at any one in particular (tho arguably the Python is a pretty damn good ship for cargo runs for its class and price). Despite the plethora of ships I own now I still use it from time to time and it still my favorite go to when I feel like messing around with smuggling or even doing some light pirating.

    It’s op as hell.
    Yet the ship is so early in the progression ramp that all the artificial barriers (large ship damage reduction vs smaller weapons, heavily overturned large ships that can pitch better than ships a fraction of the mass) let it get away with it.
    They said, the cobra is the shining beacon of all that’s wrong with elite, you play the devs way using their HEAVILY buffed ships and flavour of the moment or you get severely punished in terms of reward/timesink/efficiency/RNG barriers.

  • @gort5583

    Like all ships in Elite they have good points that make them wantable BUT for every good point FDev have made sure there is an equally if not more so bad! I can understand that you cannot make ships that are perfect but generally when you design and build a ship they are fit for purpose but not Elite ships. Passenger ships that can barely carry more than some battle ships and have lousy jump range. Fighters with lots of hardpoints but small distributers and terrible weapons placement! The list goes on. Fair enough that a well designed will have flaws but when the design flaws are so bad they can only be intentional you have to ask why!
