And a bonus trick: Non-federation agents can give missions with the target faction of 'Federation Unite!' wich gives you more Fed rank!!! You can easily stack up 20 missions from ONE station if you are allied with the factions there! o7
I would recommend just taking what missions are available from ochosi to chakpa and visa versa because mission stacking takes way to long and in an engineered diamond back it's only one stop away so your back before you know it. I'd also recommend taking any other data missions to fill up on if not mission stacking and waiting for the board to change, I've found this fast so far. Anyway this is an amazing video yet again from the down to earth guy, always on point with his info and knowledge.
This is legit in 2021, and was how I spent my weekend. I picked up everything I could and ranked up my Fed superpower all the way and am a few missions away from getting my Sol permit with Fed Navy jobs. Good times! Also as I allied with different factions, the money I got from these was anywhere from 60k-500km which ain't bad for a noob. Only a few enemies tried ganking me, and at that point I was allied and had a few ships chase off any pirates.
If anyone is trying to farm fed rank using Perry's FollyChargriff Courier missions, it no longer works well, because there are now a lot non-federal factions on those stations. Completing missions for those won't bump your federal rank. You still can rank up, but not very quickly.
I made LHS 20, a Federation-aligned system, my home. It’s well-situated for engineers, platinum mining, HazRes, and more. I focus on missions for Federation factions, mixing combat, courier work, and donations. It’s not the most efficient, but it suits my limited game time-a slow grind, but I’m enjoying the game.
Hey man, just wanted to say that this coupled with the bonus event going on has helped make ranking up a breeze - I just started out and i'm already 5 ranks down. Thanks again!
Like you're description of how to do things. I mean just recently I had to find one of those thorg pods. You're location helped so much even when I was just needing 1.
For all those people after me: Depending on the Mission Board RNG, it may pay off to branch out to other systems within 20 LY, but you will come back to Ochosi and Chakpa. I think my average was +5% reputation per mission and those missions stacked nicely (even without relogging). Any courier missions that didn't give reputation, at least gave a decent money boost. Interdictions are a thing, especially with (up to) 20 missions stacked, but you should be able to avoid those rather easily. "Federal Navy ..." promotion missions refresh when you re-open the mission board, so no need to re-log for those, Did the grind in a Diamondback Exp. and was done in just a few hours.
A few hours? I've been doing this for 5 hours and just hit Petty Officer. I cannot stack many missions because they are scattered and seem to not be giving me much rep at all. Did the similar courier runs for the Imperial Ranking and it seemed to be MUCH faster. Did they nerf the rep given?
Very good zone to rank up. Even with the double Rep event, thisgrind is mind-numbing. But i've been postponing the corvette for long enough. Already Post Captain 45% in one night thanks to you!
Thanks for the tip, but spent 7hrs grinding rank today and Ceos Sothis is far quicker. I was lucky to get 3-4 missions for each jump here, however in Sothis I was regularly maxed on missions. It took around 7 hours to grind the last 4 ranks to Rear Admiral, now I have my Corvette (just over £100m in a Li Yong Rui system). Only disadvantage is Sothis is around 400LY out, which is around 40 jumps in a decently spec’ed Python. I recommend bringing a medium ship with decent cargo (Python has 192T) as there are quite a lot of 5 Star REP courier jobs needing around 100-120T cargo space. o7
@@sygnetshorts the cargo missions are great there.... there´s one with a 50m reward for just 3 loops on a full cargo Python... the downside is that only med ships work there.
i find doing transportation misions in Canopus system faster and more lucrative. rewards are more reputation and if there is no reputation reward there are nice grade 5 materials sometime. the station is 42k ly from the star and you need a big cargo ship but if thats not a problem for you it is faster by a lot. and you never do just 2 or 3 misions because there was no more on the board at the moment. hope this helped some of you. cheers and keep up the good work
Just an update, most of the missions now are combat/assassination missions with -very- few courier missions. I spent about 4 hours and only gains a couple of ranks
Same for Ceos and Sothis. Most are source and return or boom time deliveries. Courier missions seem hard capped. Mainani for Empire rank is exactly the same.
@@S.ASmith Mainani has somewhat fewer outgoing missions but Ngalinn right next door offers tons of couriour missions to Mainani. That loop is still excellent. Just went from no rank to Duke in the last few hours doing this (June 6 2020) and just bought my Cutter 10 minutes ago =)
I did the Imperial rank first and I am glad that I did. I like most of their ships, whereas with the Federation I only care for the Corvette. I'm currently rocking an Imperial Courier for my small fighter, a Python for transport, and a Clipper as my explorer/ flagship. It's been a few months since I played last and I was trying to get the advanced FSD drive. Sadly I never did get it because I could not figure it out, and I simply did not have time. I'm hoping that I can get back into this game before Starfield comes out as I think I will probably like Starfield more than Elite.
I've had much success these days doing Source and Deliver Missions with a High Storage Ship (e.g Python, Anaconda, etc.), originating from the Sol system.
For the cmdrs trying to rank up federation rank nowadays, go to the system that has many fed factions. And then do some assassination missions or kill the venerable general type of stuff. I've tried it for a week now with 3-5 hours of gameplay per day, and currently my rank is post commander. Yes, just two more to become a rear admiral.
Thank you for the tip Commander, i managed to get my permit for the Sol system in 1 day starting from 0. at the end of the session i was able to park in braham Lincoln station. Can't wait to explore the system.
no that's not true it could just be your game but I've been grinding this station route for about 2 days now and it's been working perfectly fine for me when getting an average of 3 to 4 courier missions. once I run out I just do one that goes to another nearby system finish that and by the time I come back the mission board will have a few more things for the two systems
Heardfrom O.Ant we have double Fed rep from now till 10/12/19 alongside discounts on federal ships, NOW is the time to farm rep! Ta for updating guide DTA, love your stuff as ever.
I have found that you can yield respect from missions from other non-fed factions as long as it says ”deliver to (insert federation faction name here)” !!!
Regarding mission refreshing, I noticed that if you simply leave the Starport Services menu altogether and get back in it to the mission board after giving it a 5 count, missions tend to change, both in objective, location, reward types etc.
The main thing I took away from this was "do missions for Federation-associated factions, get credit for promotion points if you do a Federation Navy mission." Pretty straightforward, but I didn't know the precise mechanisms. What's not so clear is why it's so important to go to that particular star system. I've got a lot of reputation with the Federation just from running missions in my local area, and it seems easy enough to pick up anywhere. I don't have much Fed rank yet because I hadn't been specifically looking for Navy missions, even if that's obvious in hindsight.
Is this still working? I returned game with a clear save days ago, tried to do it but missions depleting. Is it takes time to show up again? I did only one run and they wont show up from ochosi to chakpa now.
Admittedly I prefer doing more fun missions even though it will take longer, but this method is probably 5x faster :P Btw for those who are unsure, mission board refreshes every 10 minutes, so you could accept some missions at 16:57:00, go make a coffee, come back at 16:10:01 and have more missions (just come out of mission board and then back in).
Yo, just wanted to say that this was life-changing. went from maybe 5-7 missions per run to 15-17 at times just by waiting two minutes haha. Only problem now is that I'm stuck at post-captain and the damn thing isn't letting me rank up further for some reason :( no mission is showing up
If you don't get the career mission you want just back out of the mission board and go back in, it will have changed, keep doing that until you get what you want
Yea ive been doing this for 3 weeks now and im barely halfway through ive also tryed the popular ceos=sothis route and that was even worse so idk about this one
Are rank up missions supposed to be rare? I've been grinding and grinding the Ngalinn/Mainani run for I don't know how many hours and I've only gotten a few rank up missions. I started traveling around the Empire systems but still am not finding any. What gives??? I have ranked up a bit with the Federation too but I imagine it's no different.
I have had my fed rank up since before Thargoids.. Back when my Corvette was a status symbol and they were rare.. I would often be the only one in a fleet with one.. Gosh, i sure do miss those days.. Even the Anaconda was a status symbol that took ages to earn I love that you are getting sponsors :)
I dont think this works any more post Odyssey. Seems like these stations offer no more then 2 or 3 delivery missions to the same location. even looking through the missions that i cant access due to rep, im seeing next to nothing between these systems.
Well, I have allied with them and it's rare to have even 5 delivery missions, let alone 9... I'll go out and check the Sothis-Ceos route and hope for better results.
@@lemon-le5lb You are lucky my friend! Sothis-Ceos is really good for ranking up. You can stack up 20 delivery missions easily. And a fun trick: you can do missions for non-fed agents, just watch for 'FEDERATION UNITE!' as the destination. In Sothis there are 4 stations but one is 3000+Ls (Sothis Mining) away, so if you don't want to fly there every time just avoid those missions in Ceos. But you should stack up every mission in Sothis, because Ceos has only 3 stations, and all of them are relatively close. There's a chance to get some easy cargo missions as well, so an 8 slot cargo bay could come in handy. Note: right now the navy rank system display is broken in-game and shows incorrect information, but in the notification tab you'll see your actual rank.
@@lemon-le5lb I'm outfitting my Federal Corvette right now! Well, I was in my exploration AX, but basically you will do data delivery jobs so the only thing important is that you can jump from Ceos to Sothis and vica verse. It was one jump for me in a 50Ly build, but it's a relatively small distance, you could easily google it. You could use basically any ship, and it's recommended to have 8 slot cargo. There are a few small amount cargo missions which will speed up the grind a bit. Edit: One station is medium, Velinski Enterprise, all the other ones are big. I think a DBX or an AX would be more than enough. And avoid Sothis Mining station, it's twice as far as anything else you will use.
Been doing it for about 5 hours, it is ridiculously slow, and not working anymore. All I'm getting is 5/6 maximum missions per run. I am now chief petty officer and only getting a few % per missions. I feel like ive wasted hours already and the other systems I see in the comments are like 25 jumps away so i dont bother trying them.
Is that route more usefull? I made it to Warrant Officer from Petty Officer, but it took like 3 hours or so. At this rate I'm never going to reach Rear Admiral.
This video is outdated of course as im typing this. This method seems to be nerfed quite heavily. I am not getting anywhere near the rep that this video shows. Doing many, many missions and still taking a long time to rank.
im noticing that the delivery missions are pretty much gone, but passenger missions have ++++ and +++++ mostly large economy passenger missions. so ima try and stack data delivery and passenger missions between these systems. if its still slow might try sothis ceo but theres only one faction there and it felt slow in my anaconda. didnt feel like waiting 1.5 hrs for my python to get there. wish me luck
Small to medium ships only at those outpost stations. I did a similar thing after going 300 ly in a type 9 to a set of systems outside the bubble , to find I couldnt land anywhere LOL ! Had to go back , get a small er ship , go back again

Hi there I’m getting back into elite dangerous after 2 years of not playing. I want to start working towards the federation Corvette. Is there a way to to level up the Federation through hunting pirates but not through the Mission board through free hunting? If that makes sense lol I like combat more and I sit in resource sites and hunt pirates I was hoping there was a system I can do it in to level up my federation rank as well
Doing this now but there seems to be hardly any missions just chakpa and back, is there any other systems good for this method? At the moment I'm getting at most 5 missions a time to do. Even with trying to refresh the mission board. Love your videos and the new elite guide Web page is great! Can't wait to see it more fully formed. Added it to my favourites 👍
Same here, the Chakpa route is underwhelming, hardly ever get to 5-10 missions per loop; it's not what it once was, evidently. The Ochosi - HIP 67086 route (which works the exact same way) seems a little better, but still far far less efficient than the empire Manani-Ngalinn loop. Honestly, I'm about to go back to Ceos-Sothis, the cargo missions there give much higher rep rewards, so even if you don't get a ton of them, even a few in the end will be faster. Plus they also seldomly reward you with rare materials, which is always welcomed.
Yep, I can confirm Ceos-Sothis being much faster: I'm an Admiral now (went all the way because why not), was only petty officer yesterday... The quickest loop for me was like this: New Dawn ---> Don's Inheritance ---> Brunel Hub ---> New Dawn (this is because while Don's give missions for both the other 2, Brunel often also gives missions for the close by New Dawn). Naturally, while there are also quite a few courier jobs that help, cargo missions are the star here, so the bigger your ship the better (I did this in a Cutter), but a full cargo Python is already enough to begin to see the results. Don't do more stops than these, as in-system trips are longer because of slow acceleration, so the loop has to stay tight: three stops like these are usually enough to fill Cutter anyway. Also, remember to not ignore missions given by non fed factions: if the recipient ends up to be a fed faction, then you'll still get the rep reward.
Just be prepared for constant interdiction attempts. Thought it was because I was taking Elite ranked courier missions so did a run with just 'easy ones' - still interdicted regularly only difference being half the attackers I could risk fighting, but the other half were still Master/Dangerous in Anacondas/FLDs
if you think I'm leaving Ceos to travel a full 580.42 ly to ochosi just to rank up fast on the fed, once i rank up with the feds, im doing bounty hunting till i reach Expert then heading from Ceos to Miphifa, doing the road to riches then get into my cutter for to get my trade rank to elite.
So quick question every gamer pretty much starts at the Front or Matet system, now the Perry's folly station on the ochosi system is 188LY away. Don't you think that that's way to far for a beginner? Any where closer to get federation points?
Just don't make it the very first thing you do in Elite! Farm for about 200k Credits. This will give you a "stripped down" Hauler for traveling, D components, 2A FSD + some headroom for repairs/fuel/rebuy. Cutting the journey into 8-9 jumps, with only one fuel stop. It may be worth delivering data to other nearby systems as well, depending on what the Mission Board gives you. Some courier missions won't have the Reputation Reward option, but those tend to pay much better, quickly making back that 200k investment. Of course, a beginner would first need to know all this, and it certainly isn't obvious if you go into the game blind. Another thing to consider are interdictions. Those become very likely when stacking up to 20 courier missions, so investing into a more agile ship, with at least 18LY jump range, might be a good idea. Currently doing this with a Diamondback Exp and having no issues. At least 1 interdict per system visit, but I can handle it.
@@DowntoEarthAstronomy Your written guide page is also very useful. Good luck keeping on the updating, but for top line stuff it would become a good reference site.
The problem with this way of ranking up is that you now get elite NPCs coming after you (sometimes 2). I havent lost a ship in many months but have lost 2 to this method. I have been interdicted countless times and sometimes twice one after another. Also there are very few missions between Chapka and Ochosi. You have to also do missions to other local systems. I reckon I am well over 20 hours in to this method and I am only just about to gain the last rank before rear admiral. There must be a better way D2EA?
I have now finished the rank up to rear admiral and duke. It took 8 days of constant gameplay (over 25 hours) and 467 Million credits!! So it is not "easy" and you keep getting attacked by NPCs. There are very few missions between the two main systems and I was constantly interdicted.

Really really appreciate the written guide. Don't always have time to watch a video and having double sources is fabulous
Anyway this is an amazing video yet again from the down to earth guy, always on point with his info and knowledge.
doesnt work anymore. i get max 1 mission a day.
Only a few enemies tried ganking me, and at that point I was allied and had a few ships chase off any pirates.
can confirm unfortunately doesn't work anymore.
Aw...bummer
If anyone is trying to farm fed rank using Perry's FollyChargriff Courier missions, it no longer works well, because there are now a lot non-federal factions on those stations. Completing missions for those won't bump your federal rank. You still can rank up, but not very quickly.
Then what's the better option now?
I made LHS 20, a Federation-aligned system, my home. It’s well-situated for engineers, platinum mining, HazRes, and more. I focus on missions for Federation factions, mixing combat, courier work, and donations. It’s not the most efficient, but it suits my limited game time-a slow grind, but I’m enjoying the game.
After getting permit, I had to logout then back in for server to register permit. Thanks, this worked perfectly, in 2022
Hey man, just wanted to say that this coupled with the bonus event going on has helped make ranking up a breeze - I just started out and i'm already 5 ranks down. Thanks again!
Thanks for the previous video covering this subject, that's what I used for my Fed rank and it worked perfectly.
Like you're description of how to do things. I mean just recently I had to find one of those thorg pods. You're location helped so much even when I was just needing 1.
For all those people after me:
Depending on the Mission Board RNG, it may pay off to branch out to other systems within 20 LY, but you will come back to Ochosi and Chakpa.
I think my average was +5% reputation per mission and those missions stacked nicely (even without relogging). Any courier missions that didn't give reputation, at least gave a decent money boost.
Interdictions are a thing, especially with (up to) 20 missions stacked, but you should be able to avoid those rather easily.
"Federal Navy ..." promotion missions refresh when you re-open the mission board, so no need to re-log for those,
Did the grind in a Diamondback Exp. and was done in just a few hours.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in 2023. Any different stations as of late?
I recommend bringing a medium ship with decent cargo (Python has 192T) as there are quite a lot of 5 Star REP courier jobs needing around 100-120T cargo space. o7
Does it have to be courier jobs tho, or can I just do any tasks preferably bounties?
@@sygnetshorts the cargo missions are great there.... there´s one with a 50m reward for just 3 loops on a full cargo Python... the downside is that only med ships work there.
Thanks this is the most clear guide ever this helped me so much now I have a permit.
I actually found the site today and im loving it very helpful thank you
i find doing transportation misions in Canopus system faster and more lucrative. rewards are more reputation and if there is no reputation reward there are nice grade 5 materials sometime. the station is 42k ly from the star and you need a big cargo ship but if thats not a problem for you it is faster by a lot. and you never do just 2 or 3 misions because there was no more on the board at the moment. hope this helped some of you. cheers and keep up the good work
Just an update, most of the missions now are combat/assassination missions with -very- few courier missions. I spent about 4 hours and only gains a couple of ranks
I was coming here to say the same thing. This spot is no bueno
Ty so much now i can stop being a cargo ship
Perfect. Exactly what I. Was looking for. I've been to ochosi and chackpa a lot befors so I'm guessing I used your advice last time too
Is there an updated version of this? It used to work but seem to be nerfed now. Thanks in advance.

I just spammed trade/ass missions in LYR space, got the 6 ranks needed in no time and was close to a 108 million purchase station.
This sadly no longer works. i've gotten 2 missions in a hour :/
no that's not true it could just be your game but I've been grinding this station route for about 2 days now and it's been working perfectly fine for me when getting an average of 3 to 4 courier missions. once I run out I just do one that goes to another nearby system finish that and by the time I come back the mission board will have a few more things for the two systems
It also depends on your standing with the station
Heardfrom O.Ant we have double Fed rep from now till 10/12/19 alongside discounts on federal ships, NOW is the time to farm rep! Ta for updating guide DTA, love your stuff as ever.
Collected my Fed Corvette later that day, such a beast of a ship!
Still works as of today 25/02/2020. Swapping to private & then solo does also still give some extra missions. Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot for the info is very easy keep up the great videos.
New Systems to go to are Ceos and Sothis
I have found that you can yield respect from missions from other non-fed factions as long as it says ”deliver to (insert federation faction name here)” !!!
Perfect timing! Tnx for ur work and info!
thx mate, best elite vids out there, cheers
Thanks for the Tutorial. Just flew up today in my ASPX, gonna finish my Fed Rank, so I can fly to SOL.
Regarding mission refreshing, I noticed that if you simply leave the Starport Services menu altogether and get back in it to the mission board after giving it a 5 count, missions tend to change, both in objective, location, reward types etc.
Guys!! to make it way easier and only going to 2 systems go to CEO’s and it only gives u missions for sothis system it’s way easier
This looks like it was nerfed
Admittedly I prefer doing more fun missions even though it will take longer, but this method is probably 5x faster :P
Btw for those who are unsure, mission board refreshes every 10 minutes, so you could accept some missions at 16:57:00, go make a coffee, come back at 16:10:01 and have more missions (just come out of mission board and then back in).
Going in and out of the hangar helps change the rank up fed navy mission type
Yea ive been doing this for 3 weeks now and im barely halfway through ive also tryed the popular ceos=sothis route and that was even worse so idk about this one
I flew out to Sothis, called up a ship and the missions suck. Maybe I need to try this place, but the flight back...
TIME TO GRIND THAT FED RANK!! THANKS SO MUCH BRO!!!!
Awesome video you rock😎👍
This doesn't seem to work anymore. Anyone have any updated tips?
Are rank up missions supposed to be rare? I've been grinding and grinding the Ngalinn/Mainani run for I don't know how many hours and I've only gotten a few rank up missions. I started traveling around the Empire systems but still am not finding any. What gives??? I have ranked up a bit with the Federation too but I imagine it's no different.
I have had my fed rank up since before Thargoids.. Back when my Corvette was a status symbol and they were rare.. I would often be the only one in a fleet with one.. Gosh, i sure do miss those days.. Even the Anaconda was a status symbol that took ages to earn
I love that you are getting sponsors :)
This doesn't work any longer. There are no data delivery missions at all. They have been replaced by donate options.
Very informative! How are you switching between "characters"?
this dosent work any more, i tried it last night and i was lucky to get one mission each direction.
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. Subscribing ! 👍
@@elegathor4251 I would love to know, but at least for the data missions these seems to have been nerfed.
@@elegathor4251 sothis to ceos you say? What size ship works? large? or just med/small. also just all delivery missions?
Possible for an update video? Been 4 years :)
Works for me still, gone up 6 ranks in a day and made about 25mil
Been doing it for about 5 hours, it is ridiculously slow, and not working anymore. All I'm getting is 5/6 maximum missions per run. I am now chief petty officer and only getting a few % per missions. I feel like ive wasted hours already and the other systems I see in the comments are like 25 jumps away so i dont bother trying them.
This works. Did 2h of data delivery last weekend. Had min 4 missions per station
ceos: brunel > babbage -> new dawn --->>> sothis: dons inheritance
Is that route more usefull? I made it to Warrant Officer from Petty Officer, but it took like 3 hours or so. At this rate I'm never going to reach Rear Admiral.
This video is outdated of course as im typing this. This method seems to be nerfed quite heavily. I am not getting anywhere near the rep that this video shows. Doing many, many missions and still taking a long time to rank.
Screwed up and took the Hutton Orbital courier mission for a million. Stupid me.
im noticing that the delivery missions are pretty much gone, but passenger missions have ++++ and +++++ mostly large economy passenger missions. so ima try and stack data delivery and passenger missions between these systems. if its still slow might try sothis ceo but theres only one faction there and it felt slow in my anaconda. didnt feel like waiting 1.5 hrs for my python to get there. wish me luck
I was refused docking at Perry’s Folley
Small to medium ships only at those outpost stations. I did a similar thing after going 300 ly in a type 9 to a set of systems outside the bubble , to find I couldnt land anywhere LOL ! Had to go back , get a small er ship , go back again
CEOs and sothis works a bit better because they are further from other stations so the only missions you get are between those two systems
Those two are A LOT worse. spent 10 hours there and not even a single rank

Hi there I’m getting back into elite dangerous after 2 years of not playing. I want to start working towards the federation Corvette. Is there a way to to level up the Federation through hunting pirates but not through the Mission board through free hunting? If that makes sense lol I like combat more and I sit in resource sites and hunt pirates I was hoping there was a system I can do it in to level up my federation rank as well
There's also multiple data scan missions at the same location. Great for frarming money.

Thanks for the info! is this still viable as of 2024?
