    I played a *Cobra mark 3* in the original game on a C64, but then fell in love with a ship my mate (who understood hexadecimal coding) made.
    It was a *Sidewinder* with the internal capacity of a *Anaconda,* apparently if you modified the safe file you can outfit your ship with _Gallifrean_ tech.
    The only issue was with the largest laser fitted, every time I fired the screen went completely white because the beam was bigger than my ship.
    Sigh … if only my mother hadn't temporarily stored my stuff in the back yard while I was in hospital with a broken leg…I miss that computer, so easy to hack the games.

    The fabled Sol system? I have heard tales about it. My grand ma used to tell me bedtime stories that involved a supposed system and (can you imagine) single planet where humanity originally evolved! Of course we now know that these are all tall tales and products of the fruitful imagination of our ancient's minds, but still.....it would be nice to visit such a place one day....

    I named my Cobra-3 Blue Sky, but my real true love is my Python, Nyanna. Nyanna is special, a ship I worked my guts out for close to two years in the game to get and while I have since aquired a small stable of other ships, Nyanna will always be the love of my life in ED.
    And yes, I did also comment that I first named my Python Monty, but I changed it to Nyanna once I stopped cracking myself up with the name.

    Here's the thing with ED ships: you can tell people the amount of optional internal compartments and you already said everything about a ship. And there is a space in the back for an escape pod where Elyssia was hiding.

    • @resurrectedstarships
      @resurrectedstarships  5 лет назад

      Who's Elyssia again? Some ED lore?

    • @loonatron4524
      @loonatron4524 5 лет назад +7

      There was a book in the box with Elite (the first game). Alex and Elyssia were the main characters. They had a poorly equipped Cobra MK III and 100 Cr. in the beginning. And this is how you started the game - Cobra with two pulse lasers and 100 Cr.

    Excellent video! Back when I still flew my Cobra was way back, before Horizons even. Back then there were no engineers, so instead I had a fully A rated Cobra with two small beam lasers and two medium multicannons. I fitted my ship for everything so I had an interdictor, 32 ton cargo hold, a kill warrant scanner, shield generator, boosters and SCB's.
    I was doing missions for the Empire with it, grinding my way up the ranks. Once I could I switched my Cobra for the brand new Imperial Courier, later getting the Clipper and I've never looked back. As good as it performs, the Cobra really is a starter ship, once you can afford better it's not hard to let it go. Though there are still some Cobra enthusiasts out there, mostly old school 1984 veterans since the only ship you could fly back then was the Cobra MK III!
    Lucky for me, if I ever want to go back to my Cobra, I have the rare 30th anniversary vector graphic skin for it!

      I just got my Cobra Mk III a couple days ago, but spotted that I couldn't afford adding passenger cabins on a few of the stations I've visited. It seems that doesn't come standard, but if we can find an optional internals outfitter with it in stock...

  • @Monody512

    Some bits of info from someone who’s been playing since 2.4:
    The Cobra MkI is a retired model which can still be seen in some locations, such as the Jameson crash site.
    The MkII had some technical issues, and was depreciated and retired early.
    Your paintjob is automatically repaired when your ship is destroyed and replaced.
    The Cobra can’t outrun “anything”; ships like the Imperial Eagle and Courier, and the Viper MkIII can be much faster than the Cobra.
    With its class-4 optional internals, the Cobra absolutely CAN haul passengers in small numbers, which is enough to do highly lucrative missions such as VIP tourism.
    And with I think the exception of an old pre-order deal that is no longer available, the Cobra MkIII isn’t a starter ship. You start in the much less impressive Sidewinder MkI.

    • @VanBurenPhilips
      @VanBurenPhilips 5 лет назад +1

      Argh, is Jameson's crashed Cobra a MkI? I've been there a few times and never realised >_<

    There was a Cobra MK1. It was mentioned in the original Elite. The Cobra MK2 was a failure in testing so it was scrapped before it was introduced.

    • @weldonwin
      @weldonwin 5 лет назад +1

      And you won't see a Cobra MK1 any where outside of a museum, since they haven't been any built in hundreds of years. In fact, in cannon, the MK3 has been in constant production for over 300 years

    Cobra is my daily driver in Elite hehe. A few days ago I deleted my old char and made a fresh start for fun. So far I stick to my personal goal to only fly either cobra or sidewinder until I can buy a Krait mk II with the money that little elite dangerous falcon can earn me. It`s alot of fun trying to get the max out of that ride so far hehe. Long range exploration and haz rez included btw. just reached my target desti 8500 lj from the bubble while writing this;)

    Would love to see more Elite: dangerous ship breakdowns. Are you still playing? The Cobra Mk I was in the original game in 1984 and in its follow up Frontier. The Mk II prototype failed wasn't put into production and the MK IV was only given out as an exclusive to those that pre-ordered Horizons (Much to fdev's regret). To be honest, the Cobra MK IV is that bad it's the only DLC I consider 'pay to lose!'

    Subbed, vet for a couple years, stopped after horizons n played on n off. Back on, got back to Python from Asp explorer in an hour with the core mining. A-rated, now engineering multicannons then fsd and power plant after some exploring. Did some federal rank grind earlier, if anyone plays Xbox send me a message: Arbitrary CH13F. Am empire at heart, but need to get these grinds out of the way. Passenger missions I feel are still easiest\best all round way to make easy credits, rep, and build the influences of your preferred factions at the same time. Unfortunately, since it was nerfed it doesn't pay as much but once you do a few missions for the lower payouts(still a lot for noobs if you go for the right missions) you start getting better ones and eventually you can just ferry people back and forth to make millions, and grind rep. Rep gets you access to some exclusive faction ships, but it isn't as important unless you just really want their ships.
