This is was good showcase. A couple of suggestions for future showcases: you showed it without paint, but not without shipkit, which some people might not want to shell out for. And I don't know how many other people were curious about this, but for me I was kinda wondering where the heat vents were. In the future you could turn on silent running or get close to a star so the heat vents opened up.
So basically a Fer-de-Lance/Mamba competitor. Same philosophy - big firepower, lots of utility mounts for shields or scanners, but weak optional slots. Little disappointed, they said it's gonna be a very unique ship, and by the look of it, i was expecting some "stealth" capability like running very cool and being able to withstand silent running for long time. But instead, we just got a little "shuffled" Mamba.
I just learned from another comment that this ship had a 5A SCO fsd. Not the 5C that is on the live server. So that I'm guessing it the special feature FDev was talking about that this ship would have.

How did you just gloss over that they put a 5A SCO into your free ship which doesn’t exist right now when looking at stats! If you can get the jump distance of A class with SCO it’s total game changer!
You will not be able to engineer it, methinks. But nice, yes. If you can strip it, we are going to see a lot of people buy that ship in August ("for credit" release date), strip the FSD and sell the ship again. ;)
Also makes the PTW fears a little more valid. Edit: jump range isn't really a big deal though, we already have special FSD gated off. It's still bad vibes if they don't release the 5A FSD separately
@@christopherjohnston6343 I am torn about this. I tend to use SuperCruise Assists and Docking Computers that are _Loaned_ in some of my builds (I get them from Sidewinders). To me it is not that much of a difference, only price-wise. As for PTW: Since you can buy the Ship in August anyway, it is more a Pay4EearlyAccess, and I am used to this from (other ^^) Free2Play games, such as MechWarriorOnline (althoug some of their Special 'Mechs are only available for Cash, and they tend to be more PTW then what is going on in Elite. ;) Then again I do not play Elite competitively, either Solo or PvE, but _NEVER_ PvP. So I am probably not the right person to ask. ^^
Smaller PP *and* PD. Can't have too energy or distro hungry weapons on all of those hardpoints. The most comfortable AX build will be a lot of AXMC, for example.
I though it might be good for AX but then looked at those optional slots... Yes with 4x3cEAMC, but nothing more since Experimental Weapon Stabilizer requires size 5 slot :/ Other than that it will be hard to make it shield-less since there is not much room HRPs and MRPs, not even proper room for repair limpets and AFMU. I will definitely take it for a spin in AX fighter role but doubt it will be suited for long sessions just as Krait MK2 can be. The only viable role is indeed titan killer and a shielded one, due to oblivious limitations.
@@DamianB82 Probably a pretty dull 4 eAXMC, 1 medium vent beam and 1 flak build. Could squeeze in 1 more AX hardpoint with the smaller size 3 Stabilizer, but it's probably not worth it. The 2 AX stabilizer is out of the question, as you say. Probably OK for station AXCZs. Staying power seems bad if there is no pads. Titan bomber role is also pretty easy to see.
Great video Ricardo, as always. But, wow, that's lame! Looks are good and that's where it ends for me. Powerplant and distributor downgraded from class 7 to class 6 , we loose 2 class 6, 2 class 5 and 1 class 3 internals. Luckily we get 2 additional class 1 internals, how generous FDEV, thank you so much! What we get is two more utility slots and one large hardpoint (why not a huge one?). Looking at the stats from the video, with an A rated fully engineered drive she will probably pitch at around 55 degrees and boost to slightly over 500ms (at current config from the video). No match for an FDL, FAS or Chieftain. No fighter bay? What happened to all the cargo space inside? We lost 198t of cargo space? Hull tank builds are out of the question with these very few internal slots. Not enough space for internal shield boosters or shield cell banks either, so not a shield tank either! Who is this for? Target practice for Gankers? lmao FDEVS, in case you are reading this... please reconsider this build, before you release it to the public! This is no incentive to get players back into Elite, nor for them to give you money for the privilege of early access. If you want to make money and I know you need it, you need to offer something that we really want. This ain't it! The way the ship is now, I don't even want it in August, let me be clear, I wont get it at all! You can do better! You have to do better! I have played the original Elite on my C64 in the 80's and Elite Dangerous since 2014. First on the Playstation and after just a month I built a high end gaming PC, got a HOTAS and a VR headset, just for Elite. I am probably one of your most committed fans, but you really have to put more time and resources behind Elite, or it will be the end of line soon... and that would break my heart. Then release it in two versions. Version 1 with 4 large hard points and 2 medium, plus fighter bay. Version 2 with 3 large, 2 medium and one huge hard point, but without fighter bay, just to balance things out. On both versions, the new maneuverability and speed would be fine and the 2 additional utility Slots should stay too. Those are two builds I'd buy. If they would offer them pre engineered for new players, I'd be happy for them, so they don't have to grind. 6 variants would be great as pre builds for ARXs. An AX version, a shield tank, a fortified cargo ship, a fully equipped mining ship, a complete explorer and a hull tank. Plenty of game Play options would be available to new players right away and they wouldn't actually need to grind and could enjoy the game. They could do these 3 versions with all ships+ (where possible, obviously), to attract new players, which they need, if Frontiere want to survive. At this point, what do they have to loose. all the ships already exist and it wouldn't take much time to roll this out. in addition FDEV should consider that docking computers and frame ships assist Moduls shouldn't take up internal slots, fix multiplayer and get rid of rubber banding. At least make the on foot Horizon experience full VR and build out the interiors of our ships. Allow us to leave our ship on foot in space, so we can open the hatch of the ship we just shot out the drives and we can have a shoot out in the cargo bay, winner gets both ships ...arrrggghhh! Throw in a useful auto piloy yjat flies to our designated planet and lands in the station or the settlement automatically. Same for making auto jumps, with auto scooping. Make it only work whilst we are online and logged into the game. This would seriously up the game time stats on steam for the entire game. and then finally make some advertising. Make grand claims, create new hype and deliver. I know... a radical idea to get rid of the grind after 10 years of this non sense and to add new game play and function. Well... one can hope!
The ship seems strong and fun to fly; it's a shame the interior is such a step down from the Mamba and Krait mk II... those had beautiful interiors to explore in VR, really nicely done. I know this is a Python variant so it seems they just used the same interior with a few minor changes, but it doesn't match the quality level from 5+ years ago. Oh well! Thank you for showing off the interior and all the angles though! I had skipped through a few Python mk II videos other RUclipsrs made and no one had shown off the interior, so I thought maybe Fdev had told them they couldn't show it yet for whatever reason. But I guess they just figured we'd already seen it before, which is fair. Your video is the most in depth one, by far, so thanks for that. 4 large/2 medium frag cannons will be a nice one-shot kill on a lot of enemies I imagine, can't deny it's a beast!
Great video! Looking forward to mine! But my dear brother in space, I believe the "waste gate" you were speaking of isn't a fuel dump! It's a mechanical way to get rid of excess exhaust going through a turbo! It dumps the extra pressure so that the turbo itself doesn't overspin or make too much boost, sending the engines internals into space! 😂 We'll done again, all these new things coming sound great!
With a 450t hull mass, it will be restricted to class 4 shields and up. That means that either the optional 6 or 4, will often need to be a shield. That severely limits the build, in terms of non-combat roles. Python Mk I was 350t, which allowed a class 3 shield.
I built the meta alliance Chieftain and the meta krait and disliked them both for Thargoid combat, then this beautiful ship carried me to elite. The basilisks are the most fun, as they can actually keep up with you and be kited beautifully. Love the vid. Love the python mk2.
I'm with you, surprised about optional internals, considering it's based on python which has good optional internals. Yeah good bomber for titan, I will be using ARXs to get mine early
Good video, very comprehensive, but for me it would have been better with hardpoints deployed for the surface runaround, as thats where the lighting was better.
Thanks for the excellent overview of the Python Mark 2, in answer to your question "will you commanders be spending the money to get it on May 7th?" The answer for me is no, I'm in no rush to get the Python mk2 in the coming months, all I want from Frontier is a new Cutter that clearly beats the current Cutter in terms of cargo capacity, I'm starting to doubt I'll get my wish.
I love my cutter, I’m personally hoping they will do 1 new ship for each of the major factions. But I’ve got a creeping suspicion Fdev don’t want to make any ship redundant, it’s like they want to create ships for new roles rather than them being repurposed for it. So I think any new ships going forward are going to have nerfs in some form to give older ships a chance against them

Love the guns and the look of the ship, but I exclusively fly "combat explorers" (which are setup to do both pretty well) and this ship doesn't have enough room for both a good shield AND a good fuel scoop at the same time. Squadrons combat expert is likely happy to get this one. I'm still figuring out what to do with my FDL. Mamba for easier PvE combat is pretty fun but PvP requires a different build and the will to go 1-2% hull.
This ship looks like an absolute beast that can stand toe to toe with an FDL. I would put my bets on this monster, with a slight edge over FDL. though heat management and vert/lats strength still need to be looked at. Given the location and angle of the Aux thrusters, I would guess the vertical is rather strong, though I suspect the lats may be a bit lack luster, however the Yaw is pretty good so lats may be better then I am thinking. I have no information about the heat. I dont feel the mamba can be fairly compared, as it is a difrent kind of combat ship.
Oh, yeah, totally not noticed that - thanks for pointing it out. I assume THAT is what makes that ship special - however, if you can strip it and use it on another ship, it will make THAT ship special then. ;)
Not going to lie… I’m excited for this ship, but the internals limitations means I’m not crazy excited enough to snag it early. I bounce between a clipper and mamba for Titan attack runs. This new python seems to be on the order of a reskinned mamba.
if its valid, than this ship is very lightweight, the distributor is downsized with so many HP. PP is downsized too, it will be fast as an FDL, but no shield MJ (you can't put enought SCB on this). For hulltank builds it have less optional internal slots. The old python is way more better ship than this. This have many HP but no hull or shieldpoints, its a pain to use so many weapons with a 6 sized distributor. Maybe fun to fly, but not valid option against FDL or even Mamba. Maybe the old sixbooster FDL build can be converted to this, but that have many weaknesses.

I don't think so. This has more hardpoints but smaller power plant and distributor. Most AX weapons are power-hungry. You're only gonna be able to fill them up with AX multicannons.
If it did have a bit more internals, I think it would invalidate the mamba and fdl completely, as well as the chieftain It already seems to almost replace the fdl, from the look of things
the optionals internals immediately lowered my hopes for that thing. I mean seriously, only one size 6 ? and not even one size 5 ? this was supposed to be the python mk2, not the python mk0.4. They should maybe have made it a Zorgon Peterson ship rather than a new python, the kind of build it has would have made more sense there.
Doesn't anybody notice this thing comes with one additional Large Hardpoint, but a reduced Powerplant, when compared with the original Python? All right, for AX weapons you might not need Lasers, but this is going to seriously reduce options for the weapon layout, not talking about Shields. I wonder what they thought when they decided about this.
To me the ship seems like a spaceports elite police ship.... I'm curious how it is against Thargoids. Not gonna be happy, till i get space legs to walk around my ships in elite.
Seems like Krait MK 2 still better option than Python MK2. It has more internals, and 7 rated Weapon Distributor. I will definitely buy Python MK2 for credits, but not for Arx - it not worth it.
8:34 I am going to bet that is the powerplant of the Python MkII. If you compare it with MKI, its powerplant is exactly there - they just scrapped part of the old hull of the new ship.

hmmm... so an extra gun and 2 modules, smaller power plant and a smaller power distributor. also no space for hull reinforcements so fully engineered prismatics and shield boosters would come in handy. all of it power hungry. not sure how this is gonna work, might be fun for a while but i can't see it dethroning old python, even in PvP area might actually build a shieldless hull tank ice cold python just to hunt these... especially as plenty won't even be fully engineered i reckon
So they took one of the premier multi-purpose ships and made its successor a combat specialist. The Mk2 would be a terrible trading vessel, a worse miner, a dreadful passenger carrier, and (at the very best) a middling explorer. Doubt I'll bother getting this ship at any point. It's a nice looking ship, but the sacrifices to functionality are a deal breaker for me.
05:09 NMo offense to the YTer ... nice review and all ... but "speed" in space is not relative to the shape of an object. A Brick or Sphere shaped object IN SPACE would be able to attain the same velocity as something that looks aerodynamic (atmosphere). So saying the Python Mk II looks fast > AS A SPACESHIP - is essentially nonsense. And by the looks of things Frontier does not look to have implemented aerodynamics in game - so again the sahpe of the ship is kind of pointless in atmosphere. The design of the ship akin more to a jet or airship from modern day IRL is because every person in modern history has grown up only knowing super aerodynamic flight designs; which in turn are appealing to most people > even in a video game set over 1000 years in the future.

OK, so this thing doesn't come with a toaster, but it does come with a tater-tot dispenser. It flies in-system faster than any warp drive, but needs a tow to get to any other system beyond 3ly. So... in plain English, the Python MK2 moves like a bat-outta hell, but goes nowhere at all. Glad I never spent RLM on this pile-o-junk.
You were way too generous. I think this ship is absolute crap. I've been flying around in it for several days now and it's not as good of an all-around ship as the Mark one, it's not as good a fighter as the Fer De Lance, and other than suckers like myself I'm not sure who the ship was designed for. This is just an abomination really. I'm going back to my python Mark 1 hull tank.
I can't being to describe my shear disappointment with this new ship. I really wanted this to be something spectacular...but FDEV strikes again. Five years...five years waiting on a new ship and we get ANOTHER fighter. It seems to me that they are only focused on the pew-pew aspect of the game. I'm at the point now that I don't know if I want to keep on playing. No love for the exploration community. Everything is focused on the Turd-goids. Yeah...great...it's has an extra hardpoint but to reduce it to have hardly any cargo space, well all I'm going to say is that I'm glad I didn't sell my Python. It sure would have been nice to take that one to Sag A. I have the ARX to get it but I think I wait until August now. No need to waste the ARX.

Dude, only the Corvette has 2 huge hardpoints, not even Cutter or Anaconda. That has no business in medium ships, The Fer-de-Lance is already a stretch.

I think this ship has the most dps for any medium ship in the game.
We learned what the MkII's special ability is: It's SCO FSD fares amazingly well during boosting, no more wibbly wobbly flight path with this ship.
The fin in back is just how Frontier designates the advanced version if a ship. T9...no fin. T10...fin.

They gave it more hardpoints, but smaller power plant. What are the hardpoints good for when you can't power them? Mindboggling.

Throw in a useful auto piloy yjat flies to our designated planet and lands in the station or the settlement automatically. Same for making auto jumps, with auto scooping. Make it only work whilst we are online and logged into the game. This would seriously up the game time stats on steam for the entire game.
and then finally make some advertising. Make grand claims, create new hype and deliver.
I know... a radical idea to get rid of the grind after 10 years of this non sense and to add new game play and function. Well... one can hope!

The ship seems strong and fun to fly; it's a shame the interior is such a step down from the Mamba and Krait mk II... those had beautiful interiors to explore in VR, really nicely done. I know this is a Python variant so it seems they just used the same interior with a few minor changes, but it doesn't match the quality level from 5+ years ago. Oh well!
Thank you for showing off the interior and all the angles though! I had skipped through a few Python mk II videos other RUclipsrs made and no one had shown off the interior, so I thought maybe Fdev had told them they couldn't show it yet for whatever reason. But I guess they just figured we'd already seen it before, which is fair. Your video is the most in depth one, by far, so thanks for that.

It's a mechanical way to get rid of excess exhaust going through a turbo!
It dumps the extra pressure so that the turbo itself doesn't overspin or make too much boost, sending the engines internals into space! 😂

With a 450t hull mass, it will be restricted to class 4 shields and up. That means that either the optional 6 or 4, will often need to be a shield. That severely limits the build, in terms of non-combat roles. Python Mk I was 350t, which allowed a class 3 shield.
It’s not useful for anything beside combat, compared to the FDL which has similar optionals layout

I built the meta alliance Chieftain and the meta krait and disliked them both for Thargoid combat, then this beautiful ship carried me to elite. The basilisks are the most fun, as they can actually keep up with you and be kited beautifully. Love the vid. Love the python mk2.

Thanks for the excellent overview of the Python Mark 2, in answer to your question "will you commanders be spending the money to get it on May 7th?" The answer for me is no, I'm in no rush to get the Python mk2 in the coming months, all I want from Frontier is a new Cutter that clearly beats the current Cutter in terms of cargo capacity, I'm starting to doubt I'll get my wish.

Love the guns and the look of the ship, but I exclusively fly "combat explorers" (which are setup to do both pretty well) and this ship doesn't have enough room for both a good shield AND a good fuel scoop at the same time. I'm not going to pick between the two, so I'll just stick with my Challenger.

Overall she's got over 3k effective shielding and around 99 DPS with a 38ly jump range. She's not the best of either category, but she can hold her own in a hazres indefinitely and make every single jump to beagle point without using any FSD boost, so she does everything I want her to do without ever swapping ships, and that's invaluable to me.
Squadrons combat expert is likely happy to get this one. I'm still figuring out what to do with my FDL. Mamba for easier PvE combat is pretty fun but PvP requires a different build and the will to go 1-2% hull.

This ship looks like an absolute beast that can stand toe to toe with an FDL. I would put my bets on this monster, with a slight edge over FDL. though heat management and vert/lats strength still need to be looked at. Given the location and angle of the Aux thrusters, I would guess the vertical is rather strong, though I suspect the lats may be a bit lack luster, however the Yaw is pretty good so lats may be better then I am thinking. I have no information about the heat. I dont feel the mamba can be fairly compared, as it is a difrent kind of combat ship.

Not going to lie… I’m excited for this ship, but the internals limitations means I’m not crazy excited enough to snag it early. I bounce between a clipper and mamba for Titan attack runs. This new python seems to be on the order of a reskinned mamba.
if its valid, than this ship is very lightweight, the distributor is downsized with so many HP. PP is downsized too, it will be fast as an FDL, but no shield MJ (you can't put enought SCB on this). For hulltank builds it have less optional internal slots. The old python is way more better ship than this. This
have many HP but no hull or shieldpoints, its a pain to use so many weapons with a 6 sized distributor. Maybe fun to fly, but not valid option against FDL or even Mamba.
Maybe the old sixbooster FDL build can be converted to this, but that have many weaknesses.

This will have more DPS than the FDL with multi cannons. Hardpoint placement also give it an advantage.

I think 1 of the large hard points should be switched out for a medium, then give it an extra class 5 or class 3 and 4 internal slots

I don't think so. This has more hardpoints but smaller power plant and distributor. Most AX weapons are power-hungry. You're only gonna be able to fill them up with AX multicannons.
If it did have a bit more internals, I think it would invalidate the mamba and fdl completely, as well as the chieftain

Doesn't anybody notice this thing comes with one additional Large Hardpoint, but a reduced Powerplant, when compared with the original Python? All right, for AX weapons you might not need Lasers, but this is going to seriously reduce options for the weapon layout, not talking about Shields. I wonder what they thought when they decided about this.

hmmm... so an extra gun and 2 modules, smaller power plant and a smaller power distributor. also no space for hull reinforcements so fully engineered prismatics and shield boosters would come in handy. all of it power hungry. not sure how this is gonna work, might be fun for a while but i can't see it dethroning old python, even in PvP area
might actually build a shieldless hull tank ice cold python just to hunt these... especially as plenty won't even be fully engineered i reckon
So they took one of the premier multi-purpose ships and made its successor a combat specialist. The Mk2 would be a terrible trading vessel, a worse miner, a dreadful passenger carrier, and (at the very best) a middling explorer. Doubt I'll bother getting this ship at any point. It's a nice looking ship, but the sacrifices to functionality are a deal breaker for me.

A Brick or Sphere shaped object IN SPACE would be able to attain the same velocity as something that looks aerodynamic (atmosphere). So saying the Python Mk II looks fast > AS A SPACESHIP - is essentially nonsense. And by the looks of things Frontier does not look to have implemented aerodynamics in game - so again the sahpe of the ship is kind of pointless in atmosphere. The design of the ship akin more to a jet or airship from modern day IRL is because every person in modern history has grown up only knowing super aerodynamic flight designs; which in turn are appealing to most people > even in a video game set over 1000 years in the future.

OK, so this thing doesn't come with a toaster, but it does come with a tater-tot dispenser. It flies in-system faster than any warp drive, but needs a tow to get to any other system beyond 3ly. So... in plain English, the Python MK2 moves like a bat-outta hell, but goes nowhere at all.

You were way too generous. I think this ship is absolute crap. I've been flying around in it for several days now and it's not as good of an all-around ship as the Mark one, it's not as good a fighter as the Fer De Lance, and other than suckers like myself I'm not sure who the ship was designed for. This is just an abomination really. I'm going back to my python Mark 1 hull tank.

I can't being to describe my shear disappointment with this new ship. I really wanted this to be something spectacular...but FDEV strikes again. Five years...five years waiting on a new ship and we get ANOTHER fighter. It seems to me that they are only focused on the pew-pew aspect of the game. I'm at the point now that I don't know if I want to keep on playing. No love for the exploration community. Everything is focused on the Turd-goids. Yeah...great...it's has an extra hardpoint but to reduce it to have hardly any cargo space, well all I'm going to say is that I'm glad I didn't sell my Python. It sure would have been nice to take that one to Sag A. I have the ARX to get it but I think I wait until August now. No need to waste the ARX.
