A telescoping steering column can be moved closed or further from the driver. A tilting steering column can be moved higher and lower. Most good cars have steering columns that can do both.
LOL... the guy who says the Camaro looks better regardless of what anyone says.... yea I use to think they looked cool until everyone and their mom started to own one in my town... I only seen two Genesis 3.8 and they are just sexy compared to the look of the Camaro.
Genesis Coupe all the way! The Korean rookie is doing extremely well against the American legend. The Genesis Coupe only lost by 1 subjective point according to Car & Driver. The result is understandable b/c this shows how much Hyundai has improved and this also keeps the Americans happy. Many praises to Hyundai by putting together such a fun, affordable, handsome rear-wheel-drive sports coupe.
@bravekinght07 Doesn't it cost more already though? It seems more fair to put the mods to the Camaro. I know Jay Leno has a turbo on a v6 Camaro making the same ammount of power as the v8 version with quite a bit more boost potential. Btw, that was the only mod.
@xzeen69x Thats not as bad as this guy where I live.. He was driving around a Mistubishi Eclipse base model with the mistubishi logo taken off and a GT-R skyline emblem on there
@trollensteinowits How is the V-6 Camaro a gas guzzler if it gets 29mpg hwy? As long as your not idling or have a lead foot you will have the same fuel efficiency (or at least close to) many import 4 bangers
where did you get 550 horses that isn't offered from the factory. The LS3 is at 426hp at the crank and L99 is 400. The 550 can be bought at the dealer but is really an aftermarket option.
@matrox that remains to be seen. hyundai quality has been on the rise. thats obvious from cars like the sonata. GM, however, could either lapse into their pre-2000 quality slump or remain where they are now.
@hopefortified Of course when GM 's are made in Canada they are top notch automobiles lol Gm with it's back against the wall has produced some stellar cars and trucks . I hope you enjoy your car for a longtime and do not pay attention to the negative people
I think these 5th gens are okay but the 4th gens I think are still better. I used to feel so cool driving my brothers 98 SS with 420-430HP. Not sure what mods were on it, but I'm waiting to see how the 6th gens look.
jokin aside, despite the fact the both interiors are made of the same cheap plastic, the interior of the genesis just feels more premium. You know its plastic, you know its cheap, but it just doesn't feel cheap. However, I really like how Chevrolet didn't use parts and bits from their other products in constructing the interior for the Camaro.
Seems like a lot of wheel spin in the camaro, can the performance be much better with stickier tires or are those numbers good with the stickiest tires possible?
How is that an equal comparison, the Genesis with that package is $30,250, the Camaro only $24,500. For the cars to be of equivalent price youd have to compare either the Genesis I4 turbo with the V6 Camaro, or the Camaro SS with the V6 Genesis.
Test wasn't about finding which car has softer ride than Buick. I don't understand point bringing two muscle cars and see which model better absorbs pothole vibration.
05 Mustang and 13 Mustang are worlds apart. 98 Camaros and 13 Camaros are two different animals. You and I can believe anything we want. But at the end of the day, sale number said 370Z loses to Mustang or Camaro near 1 to 10. Five years ago, 370Z may be the best sport car against Corvette, Cayman, or Mustang. But now, I think it just the best JAPANESE sport car around. Not the best sport car for the money by far.
I went into my local dealership yesterday to price the LT. They will start getting some next week. I hope to try it out then. I picking either a G8 or an LT. I might wait till after the June 1st deadline to see what exactly is going to happen with GM. The Genesis also looks sweet.
2010 Camaro model popularity as of Nov. 15, 2009 Models 2SS (30,278 units) - 58.00% 1SS ( 3,299 units) - 6.32% 2LT (10,424 units) - 19.97% 1LT (6,516 units) - 12.48% 1LS (1,688 units) - 3.23% Grand Total: 52,205 units RS Package RS (36,393 units) - 69.71% SS/RS (25,143 units) - 48.16% LT/RS (11,250 units) - 21.55% ss, or ss/rs, i wasnt talking about trims, i was talking about engines. and the point of what i was saying is that the v8 is selling the most.
No they are not twin cam. Just because its DOHC doesnt mean that its twin. Yes Dual Over Head Cam, but there are two sets of banks on the blocks. Left & right. So each engine has 4 cams.
@skjoyner i think some camaro's were built here in the los angeles area(Van Nuys)then moved out to canada. now the last GM plant(NUMMI) in california closed this spring.. L.A had the big three here at one time building cars for the west coast until now.
"The interiors worse, it's slower, it gets worse MPG and it doesn't turn as well, but the camaro wins because... uhh... the rides harsh! yeah! That's it!"
@timorbit You do know that the Camaro has better brakes and hold better numbers on the skidpad? The fact that the Genesis with the 3.8 Track is $6,000 more than the Camaro may have weighed on their scores. For the price of the Genesis you can get a base Camaro SS. That would have been a better test.
What the guy forgets to mention is that the Genesis 3.8 is the top end model of the coupe, and fully-loaded, costs around the base price of a 426 horespower SS Camaro...
@305pride but the thing is that i live in new jersey, which is officially the most affluent state in the union right now, so you'd think people would spend the money on the v8. i wasn't denying your statistic, i was just surprised.
It is really quite interesting that they basically said the Hyundai is better than the Camaro but we're docking it points for a rough ride-what package did you get? If the suspension tweaks that they listed are serious ones (i.e. not an Ebay quality strut tower brace) then what would they expect? I surely would not want some mushy ride to with my brembo stopping power. I really wish they would have included the fact that the Genesis would probably rape the 'maro around a track of any kind.
i have worked at mazda, toyota, GM, subaru, and nissan dealerships in the past 5 years, and for the past year, i have worked at Performance Auto Mall here in NC where we work on BMW's Porche's, Subaru's, and other performance cars like Z06's, GT500's, Roush Mustangs, Saleens, 911 turbo's, etc. you may have to play video games to see these cars, but im a master ASE Certified Technitian.....i work on em.
don't you hate it when you find a video that you are interested in, and youtube just does not have the bandwidth output to buffer your video in a decent amount of time...
how much does the Camaro LT1 cost?..im on my way to the airforce so im lookin for a nice ass car to get after i get out of basic and i really want this car...this car is soooo badass!!!
And what makes you think that? Have you driven either one? Have you got any facts to back up your claim or is that just your opinion? Keep in mind that at their price points, they're not exactly built (in terms of power output) to take on the big performers like the z370, Mustang GT, and Camaro SS.
@superslugger515 actually, they AREN'T similarly priced. They compared a (relatively) high end Genesis with the racing package against a bare-bones Camaro. The Genesis in that configuration cost about 7 grand more, about the price of a Camaro SS, which would smoke it. What if this was the other way around and compared a Camaro SS with a base package Genesis that was $7,000 cheaper? It would have been no contest. They should compare cars that are within 10% of eachothers' cost.
@305pride that makes no sense, every single camaro i've ever seen on both the east and west coasts have been rs's or lt's. i've only ever seen one ss in person. and don't think i don't know what i'm talking about, i check every time.
I drove Ford, Honda, Toyota, Corvette, and Renault but they all had problems; these cars had many problems, one problem after another. About 5 years ago, I decided to try Hyundai XG350 and it has been no problems so far. Other than regular maintenance and small things like changing lights and tires, it runs really good. I am very happy with my decision to buy the Hyundai. The 2010 Genesis should work even better than the previous one. I really like the look too.
V6 Camaro is still pretty impressive, for a 3.6L, weighing in at around 3700 pounds and still does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. Which it could tell us the 1/4 mile times.
I'm just going to throw a thought in here. Why does everyone think the Camaro beating out the Mustang GT by a half second is a "barely" win? Have you guys ever been to a drag strip? You guys act like the Mustang would be on the Camaro's bumper the entire time, wrong, half second is a good distance. Next issue. Why do you guys say the Camaro sucks because it has 2L on the Mustang and it still "barely" beats it? GM and Ford went with different styles, light and small vs big and powerful
this is true, my 99 Audi A4's clutch is farely heavy(stock), my neighbors 07 V6 Mustang has a heavier clutch than mine, but when i sat in a 09 corvette yesterday the clutch was half as heavy as mine so idk. the best feeling clutch i have felt is on a $170,000 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet and the clutch felt like a 50lb weight!!! I loved it
Both are nice cars...... Genesis is only a bit quicker, but not as comfortable as the Camaro from the sounds of it. I actually think the Genesis looks a bit better than the Camaro. What is the price difference between these anyway? What about fuel mileage?
i've never heard such a thing. and even if your claim is true, theres dozens of other reliability reports and personal experiences that support toyota/lexus' excellent reliability records (up until recently). that is one of the reasons my family owns so many lexus models-- consistent reliability. we've never had any problems with any car outside of scheduled maintenance.
Okay for the last time. In this review the Genesis coupe V6 is better than the Camaro V6 in every category yet for some reason it came in second. Camaro has packages with a V8 that you can't compare to a Genesis coupe. Completely different car and price. If you listen the video states these care are very similar in specs, yet the Hyundai performs better. The video said it, I didn't. And driving cars in video games doesn't count.
i agree. people should test drive both cars and see which one really feels better in terms of quality and sportscar-like ride. instead they babble about which car is better just based on opinion by the name or what company makes it.
@timorbit If you acctualy listen they expain exactly why it got first and it only won by 1 point. and im sure if they compared them in Korea i belive the Hyundia is made in. the Genesis would be placed first. Also i dont know if you've been in a car with a telescopic steering wheel but it does make a differance makes the ride mor comfortable rather then moving the seat up to reach the clutch or moving it back to properly reach the cluch and then straining to reach the steering wheel.
So according to Car & Driver the Camaro won because it had a softer suspension? Even though the Genesis is faster in a straight line, faster around corners, and has a nicer interior? That makes no sense at all! And the middle of those "leather" seats looked a lot like cloth to me. Plus, effortless shifting = flimsy shifter. I prefer a tougher more crisp and assertive shifter, and I prefer the harder suspension that lets me know what the road conditions are by feel rather than just vision.
just because you dont see many v8's, doesnt mean that they didnt sell more then the v6's. theres numbers that prove it. i see a bunch here in miami. the numberssssss. just because it doesnt make sense to you doesnt mean that the numbers are wrong.
The Genesis had the track pack and was loaded. Without it, it starts at $25k. The irony is probably without the track pack the car would have won since the ride would have been much better. Where the track pack made the biggest difference were the brakes. But the Camaro was always a bargain sports car, it can be had for even lower. You get a lot of performance for your money.
Just as I thought. This test is performed after Hyundai dealership removed the damage control system that was on the gen coupe, which lead to much slower speed. 5.5 sec for gen coupe sounds much more "right" for the car's spec.
i don't get it 1st he says it's a sports car with fine tuned suspension but then complains about feeling every bump in the road. It's not an official luxury vehicle like the sedan; sports cars have tighter suspension for better response which means you're going to feel the road...how that's a negative I don't understand...it's not a Camry..it's a sports tuned vehicle...and it's said people would choose the camaro based on the name...that's where people went wrong buying the 80's - 90's mustangs.
I think the Camaro's interior looked better then Genesis Coupe's. Also if you're going to buy a Camaro you should opt for the V8 option as it's not much more.
@gooferman609 accept for the price if the camaro v6 you would get the 2.0 in the geni and for the 3.8 you could get the 6.2 that would kick its ass any day
You can't blame Hyundai for coming in second place being that the Genesis is in its first iteration and that Hyundai is a relative newcomer to this market. Chevrolet has bee making Camaros for over forty years (other than the recent seven year hiatus), so they better come in first place.
You can get a SS Camaro for the same price as this Genesis. Im guessin that comparison is a little different. In my book of affordable sport cars it goes: 1. Camaro SS, 2. 370Z, 3. WRX, 4. Challenger RT, 5. Genesis 3.8, 6. Mustang GT
gee, why thank you vash. I finally get you to support what i've been trying to tell you. O srry i meant boxer. its size is comparable to the typical I-4. Yea, i know what an efficient turbo. What person doesn't know that a turbo increases fuel efficiency. What you obviously keep ignoring is that since the 3.8 is the top of the line it isn't economical. yet, the 3.8 receives and retains the same economical status as any other economical car including the mustang.
+1 to everything you said. The fact that the Genesis has 306hp from its 3.8L vs Camaro's 304hp 3.6L with 300lb less is a pretty obvious acceleration advantage to the Hyundai. These people would have to be brain dead not to see that lol. But if you want to compare based on PRICE, the 2010 Camaro 1SS is same/less than the hyundai, and even the auto will EAT the Korean beast in anything you throw at it.
Expand my horizons?? I have driven ferrari 599 GTB's, Z06's, M5's, M3's, Audi S4's, A4's, WRX STi's, 75mm big turbo Supra's, RX7's, Rx8's, Miata's.....need i go on? Maybe GM's regular car lines are not up to par, but the performance lines have always been there. And for the past few years they have been directly competing with Euro and Jap cars and have beat a lot of them. Im tired of people giving GM a bad shake too. They make great cars for the money and performance cars to be reckoned with
None of the reviews EVER MENTION the excessively loud noise that this Genesis engine makes. Look at them at the dealer they make an annoying racket. Check out the Genesis forums and read the complaints.
one of my friends brother works @ ford engineering, he was involved with developing the motor apprently. And since ford had to detune the V6......not surprising after seeing proclaimed numbers from other cars from ford and they end up putting out more power... The new 5.0 was probably detuned too 412hp since that was fords specifications for the new motor, 302 displacement with 400hp.
well your obviously a troll. lol according to Edmunds, approximately two-thirds of the 47,233 Camaros sold from April 2009 to October 2009 have been SS models. this is said in november of 2009.
You guys notice that bulge at the center of hood of the Camaro. From inside that bulge is very disturbing and if you are used to wider view through the windshield it is quite distracting hindering as well. Unfortunately the same story goes with the Mustang as well. Genesis is way safer to drive, if safe driving means better view from the driver's seat.
I prefer the GC, but next to the Camaro, it seems expensive. V6 to V6, the Camaro is better on gas with similar performance for a few thousand less. Ever since the GC came out I thought it was priced too high. The 2.0 should start closer to $20k and the V6 should start about what every other V6 sports car starts at, around $23k.
Just saying that doesn't make it so. Again, if you look at both brands, they are clearly distinct in their own ways. And not just because they both have badges on their grills. Hyundai's path is better? Do you think about what you type? How is cutting costs by sacrificing luxuries and convenience for buyers better? That is not value, not in the luxury segment anyway.
A telescoping steering column can be moved closed or further from the driver. A tilting steering column can be moved higher and lower. Most good cars have steering columns that can do both.
Wait, so the genesis, which is faster, more powerful, better interior, better handling plus a lsd lost...k i dont see any american bias
I'll take the Genesis Coupe thank you.
ConceptVBS what if I want a V8?
Genesis coupe: F
ConceptVBS Lol and they don’t make this car anymore because it sucked
Foh genesis coupes are great cars
Daniel Scott well the cramped ass shitty visablity Camaro sold better than the genesis coupe and that’s why they stopped making it
LOL... the guy who says the Camaro looks better regardless of what anyone says.... yea I use to think they looked cool until everyone and their mom started to own one in my town... I only seen two Genesis 3.8 and they are just sexy compared to the look of the Camaro.

This V-6 is just as good as the VQ and Honda's J37. IMO it sounds better than both too.
Just curious about comparing the reliability on either models for the long run which one would out live the other
@natev6, I am not disrespecting any of your findings but where did you get your info about how Ford de-tuned the 3.7L from 340hp to 305hp.
JD Powers also has a long term dependability/reliability test thats separate from the 'initial quality' test.
You wish I would give it a rest.
Don't you have school?
Where did you go yesterday?
Did you drop out already?
are there any after market exhaust, headers, air intake, superchagers, or turbochargers available for the camaro v6
@matrox what does that have to do with this video?
where did you get 550 horses that isn't offered from the factory. The LS3 is at 426hp at the crank and L99 is 400. The 550 can be bought at the dealer but is really an aftermarket option.

I rented a corvette from a rental agency. Didnt hurt the resale value. In fact it made me want to eventually by one.
Its a MotorTrend review, so let me guess. They give it to the Genetals....right??
Whuddah you think the resale value of the Hyundai vs. the Camaro will look like? :)

Well you thought wrong!
they actually are working with gm now they got the camaro several months before it came out and they have a full line of stuff now.
better mpg? hyundai delivers 28-18 mpg, camaro 29-18 mpg. just thought id point that out..

@305pride you mean rs, not ss
Just as I thought. This test is performed after Hyundai dealership removed the damage control system that was on the gen coupe, which lead to much slower speed. 5.5 sec for gen coupe sounds much more "right" for the car's spec.
Not in person.. the yellow hides the bidy shape.. Looks great in white.. in person.
i think there a little too expensive to compare to these two...the maros like 23k and the genisis i think is around there too
i don't get it 1st he says it's a sports car with fine tuned suspension but then complains about feeling every bump in the road.
Chevy Camaro SS: $30,245
Hyundai Genesis 2.0 Spec R = $23,750
Not having an ancient live axle (Mustang) = Priceless.
Love my genesis
those are some stout v6 i wonder how the new mustang v6 will stack up against then its coming with 305hp
wtf is a 'gunslit window?'
Mustang GT
@C63AMGestate It's not about compensation. Its about the thirst for power that is part of every mans DNA!!!
@timorbit 30k vs 22k ....8k for a slight increase isnt worth it
gee, why thank you vash.
Right, the SS has 100+ hp more, but also has to haul around an extra 300 lb's. So it even's out.
I'm not talking bad about either car, just saying.
one of my friends brother works @ ford engineering, he was involved with developing the motor apprently.
And since ford had to detune the V6......not surprising after seeing proclaimed numbers from other cars from ford and they end up putting out more power... The new 5.0 was probably detuned too 412hp since that was fords specifications for the new motor, 302 displacement with 400hp.
no man 550 you can buy from hennessy at your local dealership but from the factory they don't have near that much.
well your obviously a troll. lol according to Edmunds, approximately two-thirds of the 47,233 Camaros sold from April 2009 to October 2009 have been SS models. this is said in november of 2009.
You can pick up a new V8 Genesis around here for about $26k. It is a very nice, fun to drive vehicle.
But the Mustang GT owns both cars.
@skjoyner uhm.. the camaro is made in canada
