I’ve had zero problems with my Genesis leaking water anywhere. The car has been flawless with no mechanical issues, runs and drives great! My car is a 2013 2.0t bought in July of 2012, 72,000 miles so far. Anytime it is wet outside, I never leave the traction control on, it is terrible when on. My car has been one of the best purchases I have made in years on a car.

Anyone who isn't happy with their headlights, to start off, if you bought your car used, make sure your headlights are the correct ones your trim model can standard with or not. If any changes are made before you bought the car, find out what those changes were. There's a lot of modification about what some people call an "upgrade", and a few of these things are not proper upgrades: HID kits placed into a headlight made for halogen bulbs, 99% of all LED "bulbs", and certain aftermarket headlight assemblies brands that look cool but perform absolutely horrendous as headlights. You all have already seen these aftermarket headlight assembly brand names for sale online at some point in your life, and probably know someone who has bought a set.
HID lighting, especially cheap quality brands, of which there are many, destroy the internal optics of halogen headlights over time, and if you continue their usage long enough, you will completely burn off the reflective coating that makes your headlights work. LED bulbs in general just don't work well in a projector style optics of headlight. With the exception of Morimoto and maybe Diode Dynamics brands, I've seen testing of a handful of LED products that are like the majority out there, which perform WORSE than the halogen bulbs you're replacing them with.
The flashier looking aftermarket headlight assemblies that do not look like OEM headlights, often ones that come with halos or some type of LED strip inside, are very cheaply assembled through and through, and will either very early on or later in time lose their ability to adjust their aim down the road. Which can cause them to droop downward and never allow you to adjust them back up again because they're built so cheap.
The only appropriate options that really work are from worst to best: one of the very few good LED brand names, buying OEM HID headlights, and customizing a set of halogen headlights by replacing the internals with an aftermarket projector (led or hid). Fortunately for the BK2, the last and best option has a couple variations in price and performance that make the process as easy and painless as possible to do yourself.
Also I found my headlights to be aimed down at the road too far for some reason as well. After adjusting mine, it helped some but I found my internals are too far gone due to one of the already mentioned causes above from the previous owner. I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but I have been studying automotive lighting for several years now in my spare time, And I wish to spread the correct knowledge to everyone who is looking to improve their nighttime visibility.

I had the exact same water leak. Remove the wiper arms, the wiper tray thing and there’s a metal shield thing on the passenger side wiper area. It blocks the air duct for the air box in the glove box. The OE seal drys out and leaks. Remove it and put a bead of silicone over it and be generous. Put it back together and no more leak

I bought my 2013 2.0 brand new and had almost no problems with it for 7 years right up until it got totaled a couple weeks ago. From day 1 the front end rattled any time you go over bumps or railroad tracks which was kind of annoying but I ignored it for the most part, and during winter when it was -40 for 2 weeks straight the passenger side door latch broke so I had to get that replaced. I ended up buying a 2016 3.8 R spec within a week of my accident because I love the genesis and I really don't want a mustang, camaro, or charger and aside from those and the BRZ there aren't a whole lot of options for RWD manuals. So hopefully this one serves me well, but I've noticed that the shifting doesn't feel smooth, usually going into third gear. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with it so far and it sounds nice but doesn't feel much more powerful than the 2.0.
The traction control is SO fucking terrible though, holy shit is it ever dangerous to leave on. When I first got the car I was driving around one day and I was gently accelerating (and I do mean gently) around a corner and because there was so much sand in the lane (yay spring melt) I had a tiny bit of wheel spin and it immediately cut the power and I almost got rear ended because of it. I never drive with it on, the very first thing I do when I turn the car on is turn off that fucking traction control and then it drives just fine. Even the stability control doesn't kick in that often so in the winter I can play around a bit, I actually had no idea you could turn that off.

I also have a 2016 and it just flies. The shifting issue may be a problem with the transmission bracket at the lower back of the tranny. It flexes to much making the shifting into 2nd and 3ird sluggish or not at all. Other Genny owners have had the same problem and replacing that rear bracket with an aftermarket one is all they did to fix it.
Yes, I do the same thing when I start mine. Turn off the TC and SC. EVERY TIME.

Low oil from previous owner has caused a rod knock. I’m replacing the crank and rod on it now and will have a nice new engine when I’m done. Majority of the videos I’ve seen on these cars have been about silly cosmetic issues. Not much on engine issues. I still love the car and will keep it. Daddy Brian here to help.
Leaking floorboard: sunroof drains. Pull the panel and your drain tube will be exposed. Do a water test and that will determine if it’s leaking or not.
Tail light fix: there’s 6 ways to fix this. 1. New tail light seals. 2. ATQ tail light seals. 3. Clear silicone. 4.new tail light plastic gaskets 5. Re tighten tail light nuts. 6.pull out trunk drain seal
Headlights: our headlights are adjustable in 2 ways. Do a simple headlight alignment test and adjust accordingly
Creaking: you’re own your own on that one: there’s multiple weld spots that could break causing the creaking.
To get power out of the 3.8: it’s not hard because there’s plenty of support to make power out of the 3.8. But it is expensive, way more expensive than making power out of 2.0.
TC problems: auto TC on and off is finicky. For 6 speeds it’s a breeze to turn off fully. Autos have a tcu that basically has a fail safe to still cut power. You need a tcu tune to turn it off. (Only sfr has) For 6 speeds it’s not as complicated. Hold down for 10 seconds and it’s off completely.
I will say that a sfr tune for 6 speeds does mess up idle for a lot of people as well as throttle response. You’ll have to contact sfr if that happens and most of the time they blame it on the customer for having bad mods so just a FYI.

These coupes are plenty fast and run great if you're an old geezer like me. The headlights on mine are foggy with numerous cracks as well, but it doesn't affect visibility at night. I've never noticed any leaking, but did just recently notice a bad smell coming from inside the car so that may be the problem. These cars are also VERY HEAVY. It would be nice to figure out some way to remove about 500 pounds.
I put the rear back rest down, and noticed that the rattling sound is much louder so my conclusion is that it's coming from the trunk area.
Another problem is visibility behind you, or in the blind spots. This is a problem with a lot of newer cars, but I think it's particularly bad with these cars as well.
They also burn a lot of oil. Instead of looking for an idiot light to alert you to this phenomenon, you will hear a rattling sound when starting the engine. Check the dipstick, and 9 times out of 10, it's low on oil. if you use full synthetic, it doesn't happen quite as soon, but it will still happen eventually.

Wow. I have a 2013 and I love it. Next to the '69 Cougar RX7 I had in the late 70s, it's the most beautiful car I've ever owned. And I've never had a leak anywhere. I've also had no issues with rattling/creaking at all and my sunroof still works great. I only have three issues with the car. The first is that the touch-screen on the head unit is terrible. You have to press hard and it's incredibly unresponsive which makes it totally useless. I can buy a new head unit so that's not really a problem. The second, and one that drives me crazy, is that the paint on the fake hood vents has come off in blotches, so it looks like there's bird sh*t all over them. The third is that the engine doesn't have as much pick-up as I'd like. Once it gets going and the turbo kicks in it's fine. I consider the first two issues to be minor and I really don't know how to resolve the third. All in all, the car has been great. I really think you got a lemon. I've had lemons in the past and it was awful. I'd like to add that I think your car looks really hot - much nicer than mine which is totally stock.

The passenger side water is from your sun roof drain being clogged. It's pretty common. I have a base model BK2 (no sunroof) and I have never had any problems.
Also, the "door creaking" sound (and maybe the floor board sound) you are taking about is the front fender welds breaking after time (you mentioned subframe welds, I'm not sure if you meant fender welds and got confused,) this is a well known common issue. You'll have to take it to a body shop and have them take the fender off to fix the welds.

Hello there! Firstly, I want to express my admiration for your channel. Secondly, let's talk about the headlights - it's no secret that they may not be the best. To address this issue, I opted for a Bi-Led projector kit. What I love about it is that you can seamlessly install it on the stock headlights, achieving an OEM look.
The Bi-Led projector kit comes with high beam functionality, and by aligning it with the wiring for the stock reflector high beam (Side note: I also incorporated a high-quality LED bulb for enhanced performance) this combination results in an impressive light output, especially in dark driving conditions. Importantly, the low beam doesn't blind oncoming traffic thanks to the perfect cut line on the projectors.
To put things into perspective, I also own a new BMW X5 with laser lights, and I must say that the new Bi-leds on the Genesis hold their own against the BMW's lights. While it's not the most budget-friendly solution (around $300-$400 for the kit plus LED bulbs for high beams and fog lights), the security gained and the peace of mind when driving at night make it a worthwhile investment.

    @adriangraham9849 3 года назад +29

I own a 2015 Ultimate 3.8 and let me give some perspective from the later generation.
    1. Thank god someone mention the leaks! I haven't experienced the spare tire leak, but my trunk does contain a great amount of condensation. The worst though is the leaky floor board. Mine is from the driver side though. I recently changed my fender liners and thought that may have been the cause but even before that there was a surprising number of leaks and when I recently cleaned, I had to use some Clorox wipes to kill some mold from the rear driver-side carpet.
    2. The paint on mine has been doing well, but I experience the same issue with the black hood vent accents. It's not the paint chipping. You go through the auto car wash and choose the ultimate package that includes wax. Those white lines are baked-in wax with a toothpick it's possible to scrub some of it out, but eventually you give up. Consider a hood swap or replacing the vents. Try not to go through mechanical carwashes often. My paint is fine, but if you look closely, you can see light swirls.
    3. Related to 2. The stock rims. You've switched to aftermarkets but if you would have kept stocks you would see a similar issue as your paint. Car washes and pressure washers can crack the clear coat, allow air and water to seep under the paint and eventually flake it away in patches. My genny is turning into a cow at the hooves. This is a common issue reported on forums and its an issue that's seen in the interior with all of the "chrome" accents. They begin to flake away with enough contact with the abrasion of constant touch and the oils on the skin. First the opaque coat, then the chrome. then they're black, just like the stock rim.
    4. I don't have much creaking except on slow turns around steep corners. No idling rattle, BUT there is a strange hum from my axels after a long period of med-hard braking, such as coming off of the interstate and into a red light.
    5. Traction control is an annoyance, I've fishtailed many times in my first year of ownership, but Stability control is a beast you don't want to awaken. Turn off the traction if you want to burnout, definitely turn off stability if you want to do anything aggressive. My father took my car to show off to his coworkers a few months after I got it. (this is my first car and he co-signed for me). A younger coworker got inspired and bought the last 2016 model on the local lot. He ran into a traffic pole a month later. Trying to speed through a light, he wasn't accustomed to the 4k rpm wake-up power, oversteered because he lost a bit of control, got into a fight with the SC because he didn't know what it was, and ended up on the corner of an intersection wrapped around a traffic light pole. He was fine.
    6. I replaced my headlight bulbs early cause one burned out. They work well, but I can tell one is higher than the other. I didn't know you could adjust that under the hood, so I had to realign them. Maybe take a look into your headlight alignment. There's plenty of videos out there on how to measure and adjust it using simple tools and tape on walls.
Overall, this was Hyundai's first real sports car where they were trying to change their image. Build quality dramatically improved, but since their inception Hyundai has always been known as the "cheap car company." "Luxury for less" "Corner Cutters." They've come a long way, but they just learned how to best mask those cost cutting measures. In ~2 years you'll start noticing areas of poor build quality. I love my girl and your channel inspires me to upgrade her, but (like in your recent videos) you sit down and think of the cost of squeezing more power out of her and realize it's not worth it. She's not the best hardcore tuner unless you have the money. Throw on some bolt-ons and have fun, she's a damn good drive, but don't expect to set new track records.

So I used to drive a 1989 mercedes 190e 2.6. No traction control, rear wheel drive, only 160 (roughly) horsepower. This most recent Monday, I hit an ice patch on an on ramp to a highway and did a 180 into oncoming traffic and got slammed by a semi truck. Fortunately I'm not dead, nor do I have anything broken somehow. But i have some ptsd and my dream car is gone, I've always loved the gene coupes but all these problems you've pointed out, while the creaking and leaking is frustrating, a lot of the issues seem like "non-issues" to your average daily driver. As the owner of this genesis, could you say that the traction control won't ultimately kill me lol?

Adjust your headlights up while on low beam. Get them where u need them. Hook battery back up and off as you adjust to get where u want. Bright as shit bro.

I have a 2010 Genesis Coupe GT V6 MT and I never had the problem of the passenger side floorboard getting wet when it rains and neither is my trunk where the spare tire is located. My headlights are also perfectly fine and lights up the road nicely (I have the Xenon HID). The 4th issue, rattling noises, I do have that but not until the car was around 7 years old and 85k miles. The 5th issue, paint, I also have but not peeling but rather fading on the door handles, the lip spoiler, the shark fin antenna and now the roof (100k miles). The paint on the hood, bumpers, doors, trunk, fenders and quarter panels are still fine, just normal fading but still very shiny after washing. The 6th issue is a non issue for me since I have no need for extra power. The 7th issue is again and non issue for me. My sunroof has never given me any problem. It has always worked with no leaks or squeaks. The 8th and last issue, traction control, I have a different issue. Sometimes it will turn off by itself that I have to turn off the engine if I want it on to reset it. My other issue is the *rev limiter.* It cuts off power as soon as I reach redline, even with the traction control off, and it's annoying.

Maybe Genesis did something similar
