I read the Garp scene differently. The way I saw it was : Garp was unaware of the manhunt (that's why he protested to Kong's request to go to that remote location for no reason - i.e. God Valley, also why Kong was reluctant to give him extra info as to what's happening there and why he should go), he's only gripe was to the fact that although he advised against the celestial dragons stealing "that certain treasure" from Hachinosu , they went it the plan and now they're afraid of retaliation from Rocks crew.
I definitely think the celestial dragons have some sought of weapon that could be world destroying which Is why garp has to let these things slide because it’s epithet a few hundred lives lost or a few million potentially.
I assume this event was his call to action to reform the Marines from within. We are this emotional about the Kuma flashback. Imagine when we get the Garp perspective on the story and his personal struggles. We only have glimpses of Garp’s heart.
The panel of Kuma saying "I would never forget your face Iva-chan!" wounded me so, it made me remember how during the Paramount war, Iva had a line "How could you forget my face!" Oda..... you are HHHHHHHHHH
Kuma asked the crew "if you could take a vacation, where would you like to go?" before splitting them up. Kuma was so kind hearted, it really felt like he would care about each and every answer and tried to respect them as much as he could when he yeeted them away
Damn, when he asked that to perona i thought what a evil guy he is. But now only i got to know that he is asking genuinely and even care for his enemy figure. What a good guy he is.
Excellent point, I'd suggest that if the God Valley incident put an end to the manhunts then maybe Doffy wouldn't have witnessed it directly but depending on how the timeline lines up I could totally see a young Doffy gleefully watching or even participating in the very same hunt. Would be incredibly cool to see Garp or someone incidentally save his life too!
6:13 I love when people forget the "capitan" part in Capitan John. I'm absolutely obsessed with the idea of just regular John being one of the strongest people in OP world at one point. No cool last name or epitaph, no title, nothing. Just John. "Oh my gods, look at that epic battle between Monkey D. Garp, The Marine Hero, and John!"

Ginny asking how old Kuma was when he became a slave to "My belly's actually full" is such a meaningful interaction. The subtext behind that was so powerful.
@@omarua3435that neither of them remember the last time that they were able to eat till their stomachs were full, they were effectively always underfed and probably always starving as slaves.
I think garp knows vaguely of this event but doesn't know the details and when he goes there to confront Roger he see what actually going on and this is where he develops his hate for the celestial dragons.this event might be why he stop taking promotions too
He actually already hates the celestial bafoons, he basically calls them idiots in this chapter. If you go to Mary Joa you can basically see nobles walking on top of their slaves. So Garp disliked them since always.
@@sonofcronos7831 true true but a distaste for them for owning and mistreating slaves and a disgust for them for treating them like hunting sport are very different things
Adult Kuma having a literal crosshair as part of his character design hits a lot harder now, like he's purposely making himself a target of the government in order to protect people (like he made himself a decoy with the arrow on his back in this chapter).
I was expecting dragon to come in God valley. But oda doesnot choose to do that. Let him cook. This is one of the most compressed and crazy chapter. Seeing roger carrying strawhat. And nobody gonna forget ivanko's face. 10/10 ❤
agreed with you on all things expect Dragon I believe at that time he hasn't yet formed any type of revolutionary group as this incident happens before Ohara's destruction which is Dragon's catalyst to start a revolution
I would love to see Dragon as a marine under Garp and seeing first hand what happened here is what first made him aware of the WG corruption, with Ohara being the last straw for a full bloqn revolution
@@aacessubedi1828 oh yeah I had to look it up just to put both events in the timeline in my head properly because I was wondering if Dragon would show up
I'd love to see more from Garp, because you are right he is a product and participant in this system. But I need more on how he thinks he's doing it for the greater good to protect people. I need a flashback on why he joined the marines, what made him think they were the better option even after seeing all the terrible things they do!
Marines dont even work for the tenryuubito until they are way higher in the hierarchy. When you join the marines you basically work in a regular base doing regular missions. However as you grow up in the organazation. You come more and more close to the tenryuubito. And when you turn into a admiral, you are basically bossed around by them all the time, and the fleet admiral is stationed in their city Mary Geoise. So when Garp joined the marines he believed he was joining a good organization that fights evil pirates (and there is a lot of bad pirates in one piece, and while the tenryuubito are way crueler sometimes, the majority of people in the world has to deal with piracy, not the tenryuubito, look at Easy Blue, most people there need to look out for Arlong, Don Krieg, etc, not the tenryuubito). Only when he turned into a vice admiral he started to become close so the celestial dragons. So there is a lot of reasons to work in the marines if you believe in justice, and is to late when you start to see the horrible sh1t.
@@sonofcronos7831 exactly, so something should have happened to him where he was able to save/protect a lot of people so he can justify staying in the marines. Because he thinks even if the celestial dragons are doing horrible things he can still do more good as a marine.... my question is what makes him think that? otherwise why doesn't he just leave? why doesn't he help the revolutionary army fight against them once he learned the truth? how exactly does he justify his actions/inactions
Raising the next generations of good marines may be the way he thinks he can make the most good. Change from within. Also iirc Garp says he is still in touch with Dragon, that's how he knew Luffy had run into his father, so there is a possibility that he may have helped run interference for them like he did for the Strawhats. If he thought Dragon was causing real harm he probably would try to put a stop to it. My head cannon is he secretly approves. And so you have Monkeys within the system and without trying to makes people's lives as free as possible within the confines of the world they live.
Yeah Garp is a enigma every single person he has raised or inspired has turned against him and become "villains" yet he smiles and laughs it off even stating multiple times how proud he is of Luffy and still keeps in touch with Dragon. Even with Kuzan Garp only scolded him for wavering not the actual betrayal. (open up that coconut old man I wanna see what´s in there) Many people question and are bothered by why Garp does not turn his back on the WG like his son and grandson why does he sit still and watch as all this tragedy happens around him. The main reason this does not bother me is Garp is not nearly as passive as people think. I think Garp, Dragon and Luffy the three Monkey D generations all represent different ways of rebellion and all three play a vital role in not just destroying the old order but making sure the world does not decent into chaos after the fact.
One thing that amazes me is, around 1100 chapters in. We have many emotional stories told already. But after all these years still giving out a emotional and impactful story, whose message can resonate outside of the setting of 'one piece' to our world. Just amazed. I am not a heavy reader, just a casual reader many fictional genre, AND for me 'one piece' is out there among the best if not top in terms of the literature and art it is. In the world we have so much haterade the message of Nika that one piece is presenting, about hopefullness, freedom, bringing people under the same sun. Fighting for a world where people are encouraged to pursue their dreams how absurd it may be. Defining yourself by not what you are born with but what you make of yourself. Standing up for those who can't. Holding true to your ideals. The power of the main character of the story is to free people and make people laugh. You can't get better than that. If you get this message can you do a piece om the one piece on its place on literature as a whole.
Agreed with the first passage, except of the fake out deaths obv. and the scheme off pretty much EVERY mother dying/being irrelevant/unknown. Ida could kill off a father for a change and let the mother survive. That's not even unrealistic if we look at actual history. Often in war only the men were killed as they were seen as potential threats, the woman might have been raped and beaten but not executed as often. I mean what happened to Luffys mum, or does she maybe just chill in Loguetown where dragon gave her his Logue?
@@stevebryan5069 Weevil/Buckingham isn't confirmed to be the son/wife of Whitebeard. I don't include flashbacks, so who said Ginny is alive in the current timeline? Also I didn't say that real deaths are missing, I said we have too many fake out deaths. Even one fake out death is one too much. So the series would be just fine with the actual amount of deaths if the fake outs didn't happen at all. To give you a perspective about the mother/father discrepancy, here is a list of relevant (biological/adoption) father characters that were/are alive during the active timeline we experienced (from the top of my head): - Yasopp - Dragon - Garp - Whitebeard - Kuina's dad - Judge - Momo's granddad And now the mother figures: - Big Mom - Kokoro - Makino If you think about how many mothers died in flashbacks vs. how many fathers the asymmetry is even more fathomable. Let me have some alive mothers, Oda!
Its seems like Garp didn’t know about the human hunt before arriving on the island. He field trip he is referring to seems to be the Celestial Dragons going to Pirate Island and stealing that treasure.
Garp might not know about human hunt(I really doubt that), he did go to God valley to chase Gold roger, you wanted to tell me that he didn't realize of hundreds of thousands dead body in that island. . But he did know about Buster calls
@gjulia312 There's are things that be closed up about the Celesta Dragons Kong didn't give him extra information about what the Celesta Dragons was up to
@@gjulia312 it is all in the chapter. he thought it was a field trip. as for the buster call. it happened in ohara 18 years after. before that we don't know if buster calls were deployed
I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but Bonny's whole crew were citizens of Kuma's kingdom. The scene where they bullied him and Ginny defended him, then he made friends with the kids after. When you look back at Bonny's introduction, and we see her crew, It looks like it's the older version of the same people. So for me, this is confirmation that the WG propagandized his Tyranny, or at least his citizens went out of their way to find him.
Kuma breaks my heart so much. I really hope he can see luffy as nika before he dies, or he doesn't die at all, the fact he still has his devil fruit must be an indication of him still living right? He might have just forgotten everything, high on copium.
I wonder how that works with inanimate objects. Like the sword with the elephant devil fruit. I think there's some of Kuma still there. There needs to be some sort of payoff for his suffering.
@@Stavroization Right? i know inanimate objects can eat it, but we also know that if a person dies the fruit goes away. That's why i still have hope, the memories of kuma are still there in the lab, it was probably a fakeout death i hope.
I think Kuma may die. Oda puts foreshadowing with the word play of number chapters (because of how numbers sound like parts of words in Japanese) and apparently he already hinted devil fruits of the straw hats and the last one was the paw paw fruit. So chances are Kuma may die and someone from the straw hats (probably franky) will get his fruit.
@@felixowen2693 Luffy did offered Franky Ace's Devil Fruit before, but he rejected it, because he doesn't want to lose the ability to swim, so I highly doubt it.
Kuma's speech to Saturn was great, but Saturn responding that this is why Kuma's race had to be exterminated gave me chills, and it made me really want to know just how in the heck did Kuma escape with 500 people when Saturn was looming over him.
I noticed you didn’t mention shiki when talking about the rocks pirates, he’s a really big deal but he’s only barely mentioned in the main story, I’d definitely recommend looking him up if you don’t know
@@dillianevan4200 Before Luffy, Shiki was the only one to succesfully escape Impel Down He was one of Roger's rival, and after he was arrested he(shiki) assaulted Marineford because he couldn't believe they actually caught him. He fought both Sengoku and Garp resulting in the destruction of half of the city and him getting imprisoned in Impel Down
I think Kong is aware of the human hunt but I don’t think Garp is, one of the reasons he stayed a vice admiral is so he doesn’t need to have contact with the celestial dragons.
The ending of this chapter was just beautiful. Seeing them enjoying a simple meal and be satisfied was just heartwarming😊 and heartbreaking😢 at the same time. Masterpiece.
Of course Merphy would notice and talk about Ivankov. Ivan also deserves all the recognition, as does the great and gentle giant Kuma. One Piece is in a league of its own. You can find so many things in One Piece that you would have to read many different stories and then make a compilation of the best topics to try to compare with One Piece. I believe that's why it's called ONE PIECE, because it's everything in one.
I am so impressed by Ivankov, Ginny and Kuma. When others couldnt even face reality of their situation, these 3 had strength to fight not only for their own freedom, but for freedom of others too
Oda is smart in knowing what to show. Sometimes something is better to assume than see like the idea of aokiji fighting Akainu for 10 days Is legendary but to actually see that might be a bit boring after a while. And leaving it to your imagination makes it seem like something that can’t be shown. It puts limitless potential on what actually happened. And that applies to with Oda’s theme in one piece or story vs reality. A lot of things Oda sets up just to show otherwise like how people who haven’t met luffy assume he a raging maniac like a gorilla but in realities he’s not. Rocks is being set up as this super evil big baddie but for all we know he could be another luffy or another buggy.
If anyone asks me to explain what One piece is about the only two panels i will show is Kuma speech to Saturn Kuma and Ginny eating and crying out of happiness
After so many years reading one piece oda is still able to surprise me and get me emotional, amazing storytelling honesty, generational writer, I love kuma's story!
You know baby gloves are off with Oda when just in the second chapter of the flashback we already have a decapitated body lying in frame, the neck cut towards camera, full show, and it's just a passing moment and not even considered that traumatic in comparison to what's actually happening to the characters
With how secretive Kong was being to garp over the phone i suspect he wasnt fully aware what was happening, he calls it a "field trip" and Garp never really sugar coats situations like these and, some speculation perhaps seeing the state god valley was in and the truth of the matter is when Garp started to openly disrespect the celestial dragons
I'm just not ready for more of Kuma's tragedy. I've already teared up a few times in his flashback and its hard to imagine that the worst is yet to come because he finally found his happiness.
I was really shocked seeing all of Rock’s crew and seeing certain golden lion there but to know that the god valley incident had all of this happening is crazy
Knowing all we know now it hits different rewatching Kuma’s introduction. The most loyal Warlords of the Sea n servant to the Celestial Dragons, a large human wearing a black n white outfit with a target 🎯 in the chest n back with paw 🐾 prints, carrying a Bible.
Now that we know how generous and kind of a person Kuma is, it must've been a real treat for him when he saw the way Zoro and Sanji stood up for Luffy.
Maybe the title of Tyrant came from people misunderstanding the use of Kuma’s powers. All they would see is people suddenly disappear when in fact he would be sending them to safety with his “hands of liberation”
Kuna is definitely going to end up being one of my fav characters in the story. A lot of the stuff he did in past is given new meaning and i cant wait to see more of his later years of life.
Such a good chapter, a lot of pirate callbacks. I have a suspicion a lot of your patreons have told you about Brandon Sanderson watching One Piece LA and liking it, but just in case :)
First week reading with the rest of the fandom 😊 Kuma is SO SWEET!! Some fun little glimpses but nowhere near enough detail on the actual fight. Also, how did Kuma get away from Saturn?!?
This could very well be Chapter of the Year! Kuma calling Ginny a glutton basically confirms Ginny is Bonney’s mom. My guess is the celestial dragons stole the Uo-Uo no Mi. I’m now really interested in Rocks’ personality. Because Whitebeard and the others were referring to Rocks in the same way that the Straw Hats refer to Luffy. So their personalities could be similar but we know that the Rocks Pirates _hated_ each other. It was really awesome to see Shiki again and finally get an image of Ochoku, Silver Axe, the real Buckingham Stussy as a young woman and an alive Captain John. Of all the characters Oda could’ve pulled as people we’ve already met who were Rocks Pirates, Granny Nyon was basically at the bottom of my list. If the flashback hadn’t cut right to the Sorbet Kingdom, I would’ve placed all my bets that chapter 1100 would’ve revealed Rocks in full. But I still think that it _could_ happen. I also think equally it could be Kuma arriving on Egghead. When was the last time we saw someone _eat_ a devil fruit? Like physically put one in their mouth and chew because I feel like it was Sabo. It’s so rare! And it looks like Kuma becomes the King of Sorbet by becoming a religious leader. Also, I know we just got the Volume 107 cover but I really want the Rocks Pirates to be on Volume 108.
Kuma really is so sweet...and such a tragic character, it's so depressing. And his story isn't even over yet. He's definitely becoming one of my favorites.
This chapter gives a large perspective with Iva. The chapter where they laugh and revel at the siege tactics being used against the CD by the revolutionaries. Cutting off their food supply. This flashback gives massive insight into the strong history Iva has with against the CD
Ivankov was always a favorite of mine, ever since they appeared and I immediately started singing Time Warp to myself. But after this chapter? They're competing with my very very favorites, straw hats included. The drive and will to just spit in the face of those who would force their will on others, the way they just sailed off on their own in a tiny boat afterwards like Luffy and Roger. You could send Ivankov to any hell in the world and they'd carve out a safe home to party in for a while before breaking out, what an absolute legend. It makes me even more excited to meet Dragon fully, because at this point the fact Ivankov ISNT the leader of the revolutionary army is a miracle to me.
With all the recent dead flags omens for Kuma I assume there is a very high chance, that if Kuma meets Luffy and recognizes him as Nika reincarnation, I bet he could ask Luffy to take care of Bonney. Aka taking her in to the straw hat crew. A Grand-Fleet member at least. Assuming that Bonney still has her own crew.
I think that Garp aside from act freely, he doesn't want a promotion because then he will be more aware of what the celestial dragons do, he doesn't agree with any of that so tries to be the less aware possible, and that was what he refers to about doesn't wanting to be involved on anything god valley related
Idk if a problem with english translation but the chapter is very clear that Garp doesnt know what was happeninc, nor do the random marines apparently Kong specially says he cant tell Garp Still, Garp knows theres slaves in Mary Geoise, so the dilema is still the same but in this case its made clear he doesnt know what they are doing
The guy talking to garp is the character called 'kong". Matter of fact, as much as he is unknow to normal one piece readers, he is one of the most impotent marines in the whole story. he was revealed in marineford arc, this is the guy sen goku went to give his resignation, in that scene his title card revealed that he is the previous FLEET ADMIRAL(so kong was fleet admiral in roger and rocks time) and the current command in chief on world goverment, meaning cp agents and marines are under him, making him the core pillar to goverment's military and information gathering networks
Fyi, the guy Garp was talking to was Kong, the Fleet Admiral before Sengoku. We’ve only seen him like one time before this a long time ago. Also, I was legit starting to tear up when little Kuma was standing up to Saturn. Powerful scene in an amazing chapter. 😢
That guy calling Garp on the Snail Phone is Kong, who was Fleet Admiral before Sengoku. We see him after Marineford when Sengoku resigns and endorses Aokiji as his successor. By the way, Roger with the straw hat!
I dont think Garp really knows what is happening. He knows the Celestial Dragons are doing a "school trip", but it is not clear he knows about the activity per si. Sengoku said Garp isn't proud about God Valley Incident and, besides Roger's help, one of the motives is the fact that he had to protect the Celestial Dragons during the incident. Then maybe here is when he decides to never be an admiral so he does not have to be a direct subordinate to the so-called creators of the world. Not only, the contents of the incident may be what also prevent Garp to not be bothered by the World Goverment as Sengoku said they tolerate him.
I feel bad for Garp cause he has no other choice than to turn a blind eye to the horrible things the Celestial Dragons are doing. How I see it is he had 4 paths to chose from: 1. If Garp tries to fight the W.G. He's gonna die 2. If Garp tries to expose the W.G. He's gonna die 3. If Garp leaves the Marines, nothing changes and the Celestial Dragons are going to keep doing what they're doing. 4. Stay in marines and slowly change the system, raising the new generation of marines to turn against the W.G. Obviously he chose no.4. people with the will of D's are natural enemies of the Gods, so its very possibly that Garp stayed and abided by the W.G only to one day turn the Marines against the W.G. Maybe Garp was the reason independent marine factions like S.W.O.R.D was made. Idk, these are just my thoughts.
I'm on the though train that Garp just don't want to be near the Celestial Dragons, and even the Marines just know that they must maintain a perimeter around the island, only Kong and some that must know (like in Egghead transporting the Elder) know that "something" is happening. Remember that Garp is an Eternal Vice Admiral just to stay away from the Celestial Dragons
3:24 Garp isn't consenting nor is he truly aware. He knows the Celestial Dragons are in the West Blue for a 'school trip' as he mockingly calls it. Just reminding you Merph, that Garp has long had the capability to climb up the ranks to Fleet Admiral for a long time, but he decides to stay as a Vice Admiral specifically because he can maintain relative freedom while sailing under the flag of the Marines, and taking any rank higher than that would put him directly on the World Government and Celestial Dragon's leash. Staying outside their direct command also means he won't be briefed on true scope and full detail of things, but will only ever be called in for their dire protection. It's one of the reason why he and the other Marines below the rank of Admiral were all assigned Blue Seas Royalty to escort on the way to the Reverie, while Admirals and even Sakazuki himself directly protect Mary Geoise.
There has been a theory going around for a good while that Shanks was in actuality a Celestial Dragon himself, "adopted" by Roger after the God Valley incident. The fact that it happened 38 years ago while Shanks is 39 as of post-Time Skip seems to give some credence to the idea, but I would always go back to the meeting of Shanks and Whitebeard in the post-Enies Lobby arc to discredit the idea - after all, the West Blue booze he brought as a peace offering was ostensibly "from his homeland". But now it turns out God Valley *was* in the West Blue.
"My belly's actually full" messed me up a LOT. These are children and throughout their entire lives they've known nothing but pain and hatred from basically everyone they met. This is on the fast track to being one of, if not the saddest backstory in One Piece
I definitely hope we learn more about Garp. He seems to be implicitly aware of how horrific the C. Dragons are, and despises them to the point he refuses more power because it means being under their direct control. But, he values maintaining order and justice through the Marines over his feelings on them, which sometimes makes him just feel really passive at times.
Garp was aware of what's going on which is why he didn't go there. He didn't want to go when the threat of rocks pirate showing up was bought up cause he says, in a roundabout way, they get what they deserve. It was not the thought of protecting those villians but rather, learning that Roger was showing up, that he decided to go (idk why, he coulda picked another time if he just wanted the celestial dragons to die - it's a mystery as of now). That's how I read the scene - garp would be happy if they pirates took out those dragons and he just encouraged that action by not going and refusal to go (initially).
The person that Garp was talking to on the other end is Kong who was the Fleet Admiral at that time...right now he's the Commander In Chief of the Millitary...meaning he's over the Fleet Admiral
Kong is the commander in chief of the world government. He controls all divisions of the marines, cipher poll, and presumably any land-based armies. His name is Monkey D. Kong. So he’s reated to Garp in some way.
Something that a lot of the fan base has been clinging on to is that when they do the splash panel of all of the Rocks pirates jumping into battle there are more than just a few crew members that look almost exactly like zombies on thriller bark
I think most marines didn't actually know what was happening in God Valley. They might have known that they were protecting the celestial dragons, but they didn't know about the manhunt. That's why Kong can't give too many details to Garp. We have seen something similar in Egghead where marines under a certain rank are not allowed to look at Saturn. Garp doesn't seem to care about protecting the celestial dragons, instead he only cares about fighting Roger. It's hard to tell exactly how much Garp knows about it, but since Kong can't tell him much he probably doesn't fully know.
I like that Oda doesn't shy away from something as perverted as the manhunt game and that we as readers get to step out from the plot as presented to fully realize how horrifying and dehumanizing it is. Putting all the exciting familiar characters appearing here is a good trick to distract a younger reader that might not fully figure out how dark this goes. This reminded me of Red Seas under Red Skies (spoilers for the Gentleman Bastard series ahead, I guess) where there is a game in Salon Corbeau which was dehumanizing and humilliating , really barely a game at all, and when I read that I was really riled up and felt the full digust oh how unnecessary and obscene the idea was. Reading this chapter that came back to me and I was "The Celestial Dragons remember"
I feel like Kuma will get the Tyrant epithet whenever Ginnys tragedy (we all know its coming) happens. I assume Kuma will witness it and go on a war path of some sort.
3:05 i did not see anyone else say it so ill put in it down...that man on the call was former fleet admiral Kong who now has position of Commander in chief
It seems you don't know Kong and Shiki. Kong was the Fleet Admiral before Sengoku that was promoted to work in Marie Geoise and Shiki is a Rocks' pirate member that was arrested in Impel down and escaped.
I think kuma being called the tyrant must've tied in as to why ginny is non-existent in the current timeline, maybe she was killed and in shock of rage kuma must've killed her killers. The sorbet people mustve betrayed them and sold them out to the WG. Hence why current kuma is repenting as if he done something horrible.
I’ve always had a theory that the epithets/nicknames of the former Rocks Pirates (Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaidō of the Beasts, Shiki the Golden Lion) were all nicknames, and specifically insults, that Rocks would call his subordinates. And then when the Rocks Pirates either received bounties of their own or started their own crew, they couldn’t shake the insulting nickname they’d been given. Chapter 1096 makes this more likely because what we got of the Rocks Pirates talking about Rocks, he and Luffy seem to share mannerisms. It makes sense that while Luffy _never_ refers to his crew by nicknames, Rocks _only_ refers to his crew by nicknames. And he encourages the others to do the same. It also represents how different Rocks was from Luffy. There would be an incredible irony there.
Thats how i understood it too. Or could be taken that he wouldnt be aware how awful they are UNTIL this event.
I definitely think the celestial dragons have some sought of weapon that could be world destroying which Is why garp has to let these things slide because it’s epithet a few hundred lives lost or a few million potentially.
Kong was definitely aware.
I assume this event was his call to action to reform the Marines from within. We are this emotional about the Kuma flashback. Imagine when we get the Garp perspective on the story and his personal struggles. We only have glimpses of Garp’s heart.

What Oda's doing with this game feels so real, absolute power corrupts and almost always goes too far.
The panel of the Rocks pirates itself was so cool. Just add a lot of emotional weight and we have a pretty much perfect chapter
I was expecting dragon to come in God valley. But oda doesnot choose to do that. Let him cook.

@@ahmedElsallam yeah sir. Maybe i am confused with the timeline of god valley and ohara incident.
I would love to see Dragon as a marine under Garp and seeing first hand what happened here is what first made him aware of the WG corruption, with Ohara being the last straw for a full bloqn revolution

He's too sweet ;-;
Kuma's hands bring forth liberation giving new meaning to every time he transported someone with his power
I'd love to see more from Garp,
because you are right he is a product and participant in this system.
@@tacorrific a very good point!
Maybe all I want is a koby/Garp centric manga to explore their characters more :)
(open up that coconut old man I wanna see what´s in there)
Many people question and are bothered by why Garp does not turn his back on the WG like his son and grandson why does he sit still and watch as all this tragedy happens around him. The main reason this does not bother me is Garp is not nearly as passive as people think.
I think Garp, Dragon and Luffy the three Monkey D generations all represent different ways of rebellion and all three play a vital role in not just destroying the old order but making sure the world does not decent into chaos after the fact.
@Merphy Napier The guy which talks to Garp is Kong. We saw him after marineford. He was the fleet admiral in the times of Roger

Also I didn't say that real deaths are missing, I said we have too many fake out deaths. Even one fake out death is one too much. So the series would be just fine with the actual amount of deaths if the fake outs didn't happen at all.
To give you a perspective about the mother/father discrepancy, here is a list of relevant (biological/adoption) father characters that were/are alive during the active timeline we experienced (from the top of my head):
- Yasopp
- Dragon
- Garp
- Whitebeard
- Kuina's dad
- Judge
- Momo's granddad
And now the mother figures:

- Kokoro
- Makino

If anyone asks me to explain what One piece is about the only two panels i will show is
Kuma speech to Saturn
Kuma and Ginny eating and crying out of happiness
After so many years reading one piece oda is still able to surprise me and get me emotional, amazing storytelling honesty, generational writer, I love kuma's story!
Ivankov’s statement about how you can’t win a rigged game-you have to escape it altogether-is true and something we can take into real life.
I think Garp doesn’t know what the "celestial dragons games" is about 😅. He thinks it’s some trip.
Kuma went from having a target on his back to a crosshair on his front. Brilliant writing and this is only the beginning
I think it’s more a title the government gave him to try and screw him over

I cannot help thinking that even Hisoka from HxH would find the events of God Valley to be... a bit much.
This chapter gives a large perspective with Iva. The chapter where they laugh and revel at the siege tactics being used against the CD by the revolutionaries. Cutting off their food supply. This flashback gives massive insight into the strong history Iva has with against the CD
“I’m looking forward to seeing her tragically come to end” Every One Piece flashback character summed up
Ivankov was always a favorite of mine, ever since they appeared and I immediately started singing Time Warp to myself.
The struggle with the word “escape” is real for this video 😝
The original definition of a tyrant was "Someone who became king even though they did not inherent the title" in old Greek.
Dont think Garp knew the specifics of what was happening in the island.
Iva is slowly becoming my fav. Also Kuma, man, I crying with his flashback...
I think that Garp aside from act freely, he doesn't want a promotion because then he will be more aware of what the celestial dragons do, he doesn't agree with any of that so tries to be the less aware possible, and that was what he refers to about doesn't wanting to be involved on anything god valley related
Idk if a problem with english translation but the chapter is very clear that Garp doesnt know what was happeninc, nor do the random marines apparently
Kong specially says he cant tell Garp
Still, Garp knows theres slaves in Mary Geoise, so the dilema is still the same but in this case its made clear he doesnt know what they are doing
The guy talking to garp is the character called 'kong". Matter of fact, as much as he is unknow to normal one piece readers, he is one of the most impotent marines in the whole story. he was revealed in marineford arc, this is the guy sen goku went to give his resignation, in that scene his title card revealed that he is the previous FLEET ADMIRAL(so kong was fleet admiral in roger and rocks time) and the current command in chief on world goverment, meaning cp agents and marines are under him, making him the core pillar to goverment's military and information gathering networks
i saw the panel with Kuma talking to Saturn as a parallel to Luffy talking to Kaido the first time G5 tired him out.
Finally bruh, I have been waiting for the review for the past week 😂😂
Yes, Ivankov was such a 🐐 even as a kid despite that cruel brutality from God Valley 😱💖👍💪
That guy calling Garp on the Snail Phone is Kong, who was Fleet Admiral before Sengoku. We see him after Marineford when Sengoku resigns and endorses Aokiji as his successor.
By the way, Roger with the straw hat!
This backstory is one of the best backstory in one piece
I love the possibility that God valley flashback will be showed part by part from fragmented memories of multiple participants in that event.
15:39 Don't mind me, I was just reminded of this after reading the latest chapter.
I feel bad for Garp cause he has no other choice than to turn a blind eye to the horrible things the Celestial Dragons are doing. How I see it is he had 4 paths to chose from:
1. If Garp tries to fight the W.G. He's gonna die
2. If Garp tries to expose the W.G. He's gonna die
3:09 the one that was in the phone with garp was Kong the fleet admiral before sengoku.
I’m loving these individual character reviews!!!
Garp was talking to Kong who is either an Admiral or Fleet Admiral at the time. Today he is the commander-in-chief of the World Government.
Some of the kids that Big Mom grew up with in the orphanage are there at God Valley too
Kong is the commander in chief of the world government.
When we thought we can't hate celestial dragons anymore than we are, Oda poured oil on the inferno 😅😂.
16:52 "pause/paws" I see what you did there! 😉
"I'm so full" has already been added to the long list of One Piece moments that make me tear up just by thinking about them.
It's crazy how much Ginny looks like Atlas and York and is looking like the number 1 contender as Bonneys mother.
3:05 i did not see anyone else say it so ill put in it down...that man on the call was former fleet admiral Kong who now has position of Commander in chief
I really have to wonder.
Did Kuma's nickname Ginny gave him (Kumachi/Kumashi) also become a series of stuffed toys? The one Perona was a big fan of?
The Rocksvalley incident is actually a great codename for it lol 😂❤
It seems you don't know Kong and Shiki. Kong was the Fleet Admiral before Sengoku that was promoted to work in Marie Geoise and Shiki is a Rocks' pirate member that was arrested in Impel down and escaped.
I think kuma being called the tyrant must've tied in as to why ginny is non-existent in the current timeline, maybe she was killed and in shock of rage kuma must've killed her killers. The sorbet people mustve betrayed them and sold them out to the WG. Hence why current kuma is repenting as if he done something horrible.
Kuma has made cry once already and knowing Oda it's gonna happen two more times before this arc ends.
This chapter is really amazing and the message is so timeless. Esp with the genocide happening in Gaza :((
