This tutorial is perfect! I’ve been wondering why some use the squiggles before piping and now I know. Thank you!

How long do you wait for v it to crust before adding 2nd layer details?

I use a dehydrator so it takes about 20-30 minutes of drying. If you don't have one you can use a fan, it works the same and takes about the same time. If air drying, it takes an hour or more sometimes.

Hi! I’m a beginner and just learned what “royal icing” is, I have a stupid question but are you using two different icing consistencies? One for the squiggles and then for the flood icing to cover the bigger parts?

Not a stupid question at all! So I use 2 consistencies, one is thicker which I call my outline (which I also use for my details) and then a thinner icing which I call flood. So I'll outline my cookies in the thicker icing (cause it stays in place) and holds the flood inside the borders. And I also use that thicker icing for the squiggles too which helps prevent craters. I have a video where I make my royal icing and near the end I show what the consistencies I use ruclips.net/video/L5mVKZnTqac/видео.html

@@LittleCookieCo thank you! By chance can I use this icing for cupcakes and regular cakes? I was going to make cupcakes and decorate them for a bday or is it just for sugar cookies?

I would just use it for cookies as it dries hard and so it wouldn't be that pleasant on a cake or cupcake. You'd definitely want to use a buttercream icing instead!
