    I just ordered and setup my first Red Sea brand tank based off of your set up here! Great looking tank man. However, I am using the sump that came with mine. It’s a HOB with skimmer included and seems to work fantastic. Have a tips or tricks or upgrades that are must have? I added a Nero 5 and only the carbon on the media rack. Hi there. I have the redsea reefer nano. Set it up a few days ago. May I ask where the water level should be in the overflow box as well as the return pump? at least where do you have yours in the 170. Im guessing it's suppose to drain down the main pipe and not the emergency pipe and the water level in the return pump chamber is just suppose to be above the intake of the pump and bellow the bubble trap? I also notice that the water level varies from time to time in the overflow box which inturn may vary in the return pump chamber also. This may cause the ATO to over dose or not dose at all? sorry, beginner here.

    • @billylariscy3945
      @billylariscy3945  4 года назад

      Hey Thanks for watching. Sorry I am just now getting back to you. I was on vacation. I keep mine just over an inch below the overflow pipe. I sometimes have to adjust it about once a month. It seems to slow down but once I crank the valve a little it opens back up. Hope this is helpful to you!

    • @billylariscy3945
      @billylariscy3945  4 года назад +1

      @@Isaacperezis1248 I started growing this because of high nitrates from over feeding due to spot feeding my sea horses. This was my ideah of a natural solution. I dose red sea A, B, And C as well as red sea trace elements also korellen amino acids. Then I dose reef nutrition oyster feast and live phyto plankton and I target feed reef roids once a week. I use carbon in my filter sock with chemi pure blue to help keep everything in check. I don't think it is that hard to grow if you can keep fish from eating it and attached to the rocks. I put dried sea weed in every day to keep my flame angel from devouring it. Hope this helpful to you. Let me know if you have any more questions

    • @billylariscy3945
      @billylariscy3945  3 года назад

      If you adjust the water level correctly. It should be silent. Turn the knob under the tank until you don't hear any noise. Then just fine tune it so that the water level is about an inch below the overflow pipe. Just turn the know a little bit at a time it's very sensitive

    In the sump, what retun are you running? Would there be enough room in the cabinet/sump for a UV?

    • @billylariscy3945
      @billylariscy3945  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching! I am currently running a simplicity 1000 gph return pump with a adjustable controller set to 3. So I am probably operating around 300 gph. The return chamber is about 9 inches long and 6 inches wide. I definitely think you could run uv in this system. If I was to do it I would probably mount it on the wall of the cabinet and pipe it back down to the return. But I have had no need for it in my opinion. I hope this is helpful to you!

    • @deerhunter7966
      @deerhunter7966 4 года назад

      @@billylariscy3945 Thanks for the dimensions and clarification. The GPH, is that accounting for the head pressure too? It's what about 3 ft or so?

    • @billylariscy3945
      @billylariscy3945  4 года назад +1

      You are very welcome. It is actually 5 feet from the pump to the top of the bulk head. The manufacturer recommendeds a 500 gph pump. I got a deal on this one refurbished. But I was always taught that you want to achieve your circulation inside the tank. That being said I don't skim that hard. But that is just my personal preference
