In a world where every single youtuber we see gets literaly paid to be a good and positive reviewer of any and every brands/products they get sponsored on. Your integrity and courage of "simply" giving an honest yet expert feedback is really appreciated. No amount of money should buy someone's integrity when he can reach hundreds of thousands of people.
Probably not the best marketing Logitech hoped for but at least you're respectful enough to showcase their product in a transparent way, without bashing them, we salute their efforts to make something "new". But i'll still save to buy that DSLR webcam I've been wanting forever. :D

I am not a streamer but have a streamer like setup on a combined programming workstation / sim rig for remote work/meetings, with Nvidia Broadcast feeding an actually good image to OBS Studio. Also have Elgato and Hue lights with a Streamdeck XL for control and start-up macros. Oh and a UR22 and SE -X condenser.
It works well for my meetings, but you wouldn't use that for streaming games - NB forces my 3070 to ~1700mhz, when rendering graphics (iRacing) I have it at 2ghz.
So I've created Streamdeck macros to shut down NB/OBS to let my GPU power save, so as not to die prematurely.
Before I started using NB I noticed the Streamcam having severe auto exposure issues when not using the crappy bloated Logitech software. The manual EV steps were like giant leaps too.
(OBS Studio + Nvidia Broadcast + the Elgato bits is an amazing set-up for remote work; I love having control over scenes and audio muting with my Streamdeck. Well worth the investment of time and money.)
Kudos again for a very honest review.

as an art streamer, i've actually found this camera great. It's hard to reliably emulate the colours you use when painting but this cam handles that aspect really well. I know a lot of art streamers like to have their facecams more portrait so you can see more of the artwork. I feel like this cam has much more of the creative community in mind and overall i've been thrilled with it! The portrait mode can get annoying when you're trying to adjust the camera in 3d space but that's all I can think of that's the downside.

I hate when companies try to fool you with Fstop numbers and the like on tiny small sensors. Focal lengths can scale, F-stops do not. The blurred background on that Streamcam is exactly my point. It’s 2021. We have cameras in our phones that can shoot 4K 60p or up to 8k in some cases, on sensors that aren’t that much bigger than that which you see in almost every webcam on the market. We have compression tech that can give you gorgeous footage without massive file sizes and that allows the streaming of said footage without buffering. So why in 2021, do webcams still look the same as they did 10 years ago. We have the technology to make them better and cheaply. So why don’t we.

Incredibly helpful video although I watched it too late! The last point you made about the depth of field is exactly the marketing ploy that I fell for. I decided I wanted a new webcam when I did a call with someone who had a very shallow DOF which was really impressive. As you point out with the photograph of the girl with the blurry background in their marketing material, I did indeed expect to be able to achieve that with this camera. I know in some ways the clarity of the images on the other side of the room was impressive for a webcam - but it isn't what I wanted. As yu say, they didn't make any written claims about DOF so I suppose their marketing isn't technically false advertising, but it's getting pretty close! Also, what does it say about what they think of their own product that they don't even use it much in their advertising! Clearly they know people will be more inclined to buy it if it has features they aren't actually offering! Not a great vote of confidence by them for their own product! Thanks for a great video - wish I had watched it before I bought the camera!

I feel that you over associated "streaming" with only gamers, I think that is not realistic, there much more things about video game streamers. Most people will be overwhelmed about technical aspects of cameras in the beginning, so starting with a $160 cam that does simple things easy to understand IMHO is great quality, also, don't everybody can afford a camera a microphone, or they simply don't have the space to put both things on their desktop.
Anyway, it's a very critical good review, points for that; I think it's important for me to get that this is a gamer channel, so, everything may be objectively accurate for people that want to use it as you do.

Disregarding the false marketing, the big problem with these cheap/casual/beginner webcams is that smartphones exist. If you have a tight budget, even an old flagship or a new midrange smartphone will have a better camera, connectivity, and utility. That's why he's so critical. It's not about whether this fits game streamers. It's the value proposition.
Webcams cost almost as much as secondhand phones that do way more AND have a better camera. In fact, most people who want to get into streaming probably already have a smartphone. In that case, they just need to pay for the webcam app and a mount. That's so much cheaper than this, they can even afford to buy cheap lighting with the money they save. Check out his video comparing the image quality of popular Logitech webcams with old iPhones (6S, 7, and X), and you'll see how much better the iPhones are at the webcam's job.
If you really want to pinch pennies and you're not a game streamer, you can even ditch the PC and just stream straight from the phone.
It makes you wonder why webcams are both expensive and mediocre.

And honestly I can't see much of a difference between my old camera and the new one so it's going back to the store. Thanks for your review. I enjoyed it and I enjoyed your opinions of some of the other WebCams.

And yeah of course this webcam is not a conference cam but the built in microphone(s) are still important imo! It’s an expensive cam and there will be lots of (non-streaming) people buying it because it just looks nice and is a bit better than the alternatives.

    I want 3 Basic things.
1- Better FOV or lens system
    2- Bigger or Better sensor
3- Clean HDMI (with USB option at lower settings is acceptable)
If one of these phones with Leica cameras gets better USB bandwidth (Or HDMI output) that can stream then webcams are done.
I still have a C920 because the Brio is almost as much as a used full frame camera. I am saving for a A5100 or SL2 + the required goodies because the streamer camera market is vastly untouched.

Maybe the 78 degree field of view is because many pop up green screens aren't very wide? I know I have to crop my brio for the Elgato green screen. It's a reason I'm thinking of going back to a cloth green screen now that I've moved to a bigger space. For that much wider FOV

Actually wish I knwe of this sooner. Picked up a Brio recently because there weren't any solutions I saw before this. The quality of the image is definitely all I am after, at least until I get setup on a real camera, and this webcam definitely seems to deliver good quality images and colors. Would I like more FoV? Sure, but not a big deal to me. Would I like more built-in features related to zoom/focus/etc? Sure, but ultimately those features would still require some sort of Logitech software running in the background to make it work. No camera natively does anything all that fancy besides giving a nicer image for more money.

The problem with webcams are the bit rate and lack of low light. I get way to much noise on my logitech c920. I hunted down a really nice webcam at twitch con last year at one of the vendors but it's really pricey. But as a pro streamer, it's worth it (i'm not...yet) because you don't need a capture card or capture software, all the processing is all into the camera itself. Check out the sub2r. I really wanted it but it's expensive.

I want the simple integration of a webcam with the lens choice and image quality of a micro 4/3rds. No mic, no hdmi that needs conversion, no flash, no lcd, no complicated on body controls, no battery. Just a USB C port (not integrated cable), a status light, a threaded tripod connector, and a lens mount. Think E1 by Z but lose the lcd, the battery and the onboard storage. Just a damn box with a usb C port, image sensor and lens mount IS THAT SO FRICKIN HARD? Control the rest of it on the PC, storage right to the pc. Essentially a "Studio Camera" for youtubers!

I really don't understand why anyone hasn't made a webcam with a decent prime lens. I've been on the search for a non-Logitech cam for ages. I would get an Elgato cam link but my DSLR cameras are Nikon which doesn't have good support for it. I wish someone made a webcam with a micro four-thirds lens. The best one that I can think of is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera, but that would set you back almost $1k plus Cam Link.

I looked at the spec list and I was like, "Oh man, they missed the mark on this."
Majority of streamers are streaming at 70° FOV and are fine with that, but fairly certain if you gave them 90° they wouldn't complain and many would switch to it.
I do like how responsive it is seriously lacking in features we want.
Then there's the whole matter of the Logicam software being an absolute dumpster fire when you have more than one camera plugged in.

I have to stream the college classes I teach; that is one reason why a "streamer" might want the framing feature that follows their face. Also, I'm glad it doesn't give that beautiful blurred background because I will want remote students to see the powerpoint slides and notes on the board behind me. I know this isn't the streaming content you are referring to, but it's a type if streaming that really requires a camera like this.

I like having a mic on a camera. It is easy to setup, and already placed well when you put it over the monitor. The sounds can be decent. I used microphones on Logitech BRIO, and I like it. Yes, I do have a better mic, but it is often pain to setup. What I would likem, is higher quality sensor (not just color accuracy, but also lower noise) and mechanical aperture, so I can change a depth of field easily. Better glass lens, to really have sharp image.

I’m thinking of buying this for a huge quality pop in my content creation. Recently got my blue yeti , and after my most recent video found the absolute best place to have the mic for the Audio Quality POP , but I will only strictly be doing content creation and don’t have the budget to buy a nice camera like a a6400 , the main things I need in a webcam is extremely good quality , smooth picture , auto focus , and colour accuracy , I seen this webcam has that. But I seen it’s also a “dud” in your eyes , and I trust your opinion (or anyone else who comments on this post) would this be enough ?

I understand that they aren't being entirely honest. And I get that the camera cannot compare with a full-frame camera with a fancy lens. But how does it compare to other webcams at the same (or similar) price point? I didn't get the answer from your video. If I only have $X to spend, is this camera better or worse than its competitors that are in that ballpark?
