Thank you so much for sharing such wonderful memories of a special time and of a very special horse called 'GENEROUS' Akso wonderful that Alan another York lad rose to the very top of his chosen profession. Alan actually rode for my late fathers friend Mel Brittain.
This is also a tribute to the unique riding style of Alan Munro. Sad to think this yard is all but empty, and the great Paul Cole has just a few horses left, but the statue of Generous stands proud and can be admired by all as these is a public footpath right through this yard. How wonderful to have lived through those heady times and seen some of these champions in the flesh.
@@robertdelacy3434 But he was underrated as a horse, do people forget about Dancing Brave who was also a disappointment at stud? One winning appearance as a two year old and then straight to winning a derby, King George and Arc, certainly takes some doing.
@@robertdelacy3434 I don't think it's about ratings, it's more about people not mentioning him, when they talk of the likes of Dancing Brave, sea the Stars ect, he's like the forgotten horse.
@@robertdelacy3434 the other posters comments have gone for some reason? I don't think he was ever really given a chance? He was actually a half brother to Aiden Aiden O'Briens Oaks winner imagine (she won later) but he was sent straight over seas, you would have thought he would have been tried here considering how brilliant on his day he was.
@@robertdelacy3434 Possible? But as his owner was a sheik multi millionaire I wouldn't have thought money would have had that much influence, I know he produce nothing of any real note at stud but he wasn't really given a fair chance, the idea of keeping them here is they usually get the best mares in their first few seasons to try and establish the stallion, the problem with breeding is if they don't get off to a flying start they a considered a failure and only get sent second rate mares after the first few seasons, and by that time they are sending their best mares to the latest new guy in town.

My horses sire ❤
What a gorgeous horse, could race a bit too :)
Yes, rather like Grundy and Shergar, he wasn't the biggest of horses but he certainly could go a bit.
Thanks a lot for this video, the most underrated horse I know of! A true all-time great!
villiers1989 there's plenty who are underrated, New Approach and Lamatara to name two.

I can never understand why his owner sold him to a Japanese stud? He should have been sold to a European stud.
I was thinking exactly the same even before I got to the comments section.
Obviously European studs didn't want him he was usless at stud
