    nice, i've been researching this for a few years now. wife and i have been building our "last home" in the philippines, and it is almost completed. my project will then be to build a natural swimming pond. we will be doing something a little more tropical and natural, by using large stones for the walls, and boulders placed around. we are also going with a sand bottom, kinda like how the ecosys guys are doing it in brazil.

    Very cool! I have been researching these for a few years, it is something how far these pools/ponds have come. I am wondering what type of soil you have; you only dug down in the dirt and then put the underlay/liner over...Is that correct, no wall in the 13 ft depth? This would save loads of cash! Then you used the red wood as a top plate and secured it with sand bags and L brackets...is this correct, no tie backs in the planting area?Also what is your length and width and how big of a pump did you go with? Thanks for any help or advice, or what plans /books you used. My sons will be so happy we can add fish as well! Thanks from a very interested Kansas Farm!!!

    • @apvsculpture
      @apvsculpture  6 лет назад +14

      TNT Farms Hello, we have clay soil, no need for a wall down there. Dig hole, sculpt sides, put underlayment, liner, then wood retaining walls. You can never have enough filtration (here in California for sure). It’s easy in colder Northern climates as the algae isn’t as aggressive. Good luck!

    Excuse me if I am asking a dumb question. How much does this cost building a pond like this including all the construction cost, equipment and the 24 metric tonnes river stone. Do you need to get a permit building a pond like this as the water may give pressure to the landscape around. This is absolutely beautiful.

    I want to put in a NSP like this, without the concrete walls, but I have gophers. Worried they would come through the liner or weaken the walls of the pool. Have you had any issues with gophers? Or suggestions? Also, how did you get around not having a fence around it? I'm in So Cal. What I've researched says it will need a fence.

      @@apvsculpture OK, thanks! I think I'll go for a .042 pvc since in my country (Chile) this concept of organic pools is still quite new therefore quite expensive to achieve too, and the pvc liner seems to be the best option so far.. So I'll do what I can but I'll try to keep an image of your pond as an inspiration for it. Wish me good luck!

  • @benpaynter

    Great pool! Does having fish in there cause you issues with water quality in the longer term? Things I've looked into suggest that they either stir up sediment and/or eat bugs which are important for keeping the water quality.

    • @khakicam5400
      @khakicam5400 4 года назад

      Water is dispersed around the perimeter and then percolates up through the gravel. Bacteria colonise the gravel and purify the water as it passes, with plants also removing nutrients from the water in the main pond.

    • @PetersPan24
      @PetersPan24 11 месяцев назад

      The purpose of the pipes is the opposite of what khaki wrote. They collect water, drawing it through the rocks which act as a filter.

      Stan TheObserver actually I have found that you are better off with less shallow areas. If you have them make sure they are well planted or they are prone to algae growth. Cost of the liner you can look up pretty easily.
