    Great improvements but they did not get rid of the touch sensitive buttons which creates haptic feedback. I have a Born in the UK and the touch sensitive steering wheel buttons are immediately identifiable as terrible. I am a UX designer and there is no way they were tested with users. They would have immediately reported the problem. Sadly, there are then so many other UX issues in the infotainment, not just it being slow and buggy. Ambiguous settings and non localised settings make it all look like an afterthought. Try setting the distance from the car in front when in adaptive cruise. Which way is closer and which is farther away? It's a guessing game. This runs through to the phone app too. How easy is it to show a right hand drive car? Which heated seat do I turn on to heat the driver, the one on the right or the one in front of the steering wheel on the left? At least it is in English...

      A bit like Tesla and FSD ! I've had an ID.3 for 26 months, before that we had an BMW i3 for 3 years and we've also got a model 3. The Tesla isn't perfect (phantom braking anyone?) but it's leagues ahead of the VW. Pity really because I love the form factor of the VW. Now if Tesla were to build a car of that size .... even announce it tonight ...... still it will be 3 years away :)

    • @F_wan
      @F_wan Год назад

      I've got one. It's absolutely fine, the caterwauling about the software is really about the frequency of updates, most owners for whatever reason want this to happen every few months. It works fine in my opinion.

    • @F_wan
      @F_wan Год назад

      @@malcolmhedges7346haha. Right. I had a Tesla for two weeks as a courtesy car. It was rattling, very harsh ride, stupid B mode at all times, but it was nice to sit in it when it wasn't moving. That's seems to be the most important part for the average Tesla owner anyway.

    • @malcolmhedges7346
      @malcolmhedges7346 Год назад +1

      @@F_wan I've had my Model 3 for 3 years. It doesn't rattle. We use it to drive to the in laws in Italy, it takes the same time as in a diesel and the charging network is faultless. I could not do that journey in the ID.3 due to the unreliability and coverage gaps of the public charging network, which is getting better but not matching the pace of EV adoption. I'm on 2.4 VW software, although the car tells me it's 2.3. Which is entirely logical, obviously. It's a good, boring VW runaround, nothing more. The interior quality is pretty poor. Much of this has been addressed in the facelift but for us first edition beta testers we've been pretty much abandoned by VW support. Personally I prefer full regen in the Tesla, but you can of course adjust it.

    The id3 would be such a dope car if it were around 25k
    I might be hard wrong, but it doesn't look much bigger than our Polo (which is what the id2 is going to be/replace). But if the id2 is Polo sized, and does come under 25k (which I doubt, unless they put hardplastics in the car everywhere and even then it's gonna be difficult because the current polo without anything is already around 22k€) then it'd be really nice.
    After I'm done with Uni I'll still work up for a Cayman tho 😆

    Damn. I’m pleased about the update to the interior (I could now live with it whereas I just couldn’t with the previous model). I’m still not quite convinced that the software will be glitch free - I have a feeling that they have ironed the bugs out of the old software whereas really a ground up rewrite might be needed to make it excellent. But worst of all are the buttons or lack of physical buttons. Frustrating because the ID 3 is the car that makes the most sense for us.

    Ran one for 2.5 years now. Can't fault the drive, space, engineering etc. Range is acceptable for what I paid. Tech and controls are pretty bad and this doesn't actually fix the big issues. It was a very cheap deal at the time, they couldn't move them when they first came out, and the retained value is way above the lease residual . I will likely keep it for a while now as it is clear EV's a good for many journeys but not for serious distance or remote journeys. Maybe upgrade in 3-4 years if we ever sort out public charging.

    This is how VW messed up the first ID.3 launch. They rushed an unfinished product onto the market just to gain market share. All the software glitches and quality issues that beset the ID.3 at launch could have been ironed out if only VW had just delayed the launch by a year or two just to give themselves time to do everything right. And now, here we are again. This "new" ID.3 was not supposed to be released for a few more years. So why is VW rushing it onto the market again? They are about to release another unfinished product yet again as if they didn't learn anything from their previous mistakes. This is unacceptable. This is something that people would normally get fired for. How the top decision makers at VW still have their jobs is beyond me. VW can completely fix everything wrong with this car if they can just delay its launch by the few years that they had initially planned. It's so frustrating.

    VW listened to complaints about the touch controls and spent millions on a new... bonnet. Okay. And what's this I read somewhere about owners who paid £40K for their car having to pay a monthly subscription for the built-in dual-zone climate control, which I hope will be a dealbreaker for all potential owners if true. VW only sort-of listening it seems.

    I don't think the last version was really fit for purpose looking at all the issues etc. All manufacturers need to bring back proper buttons and knobs and work on increasing the range but they would rather continue bringing us silly gimmicks instead. Also, car reviewers need to look at the way they praise cars based on driving them for one or two days and then people end up buying something that isn't as promised.

    If they weren't going to address the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel, there would be nearly no point to the update.
    Rushing an update risking more teething problems and not solving the previous ones may not be the best strategy to stay in business.
    Considering it's very easy to activate touch buttons when not needed/wanted, plus they are difficult to activate on purpose when wanted/needed, a car like that should be never be allowed on the road. Plus all the climate controls on a touch screen are dangerous.
    For safety reasons, the volume control and all basic climate controls should be easy to operate without distraction. Think about a windscreen steaming up due to weather and having to quickly adjust controls to ensure proper visibility, for example.
    If drivers have to be distracted by some tasks that can't wait (e.g. demist the windscreen while on a motorway) and it's not safe to stop (like in places where there's no hard shoulder and/or when you can't safely change lanes to get closer to the hard shoulder) and end up crashing, who's really to blame? The driver? The manufacturer? Whoever allowed the car to be homologated in the country?
    Who's gonna repay the damages? And what about loss of life that can't be repaid or reversed?
    Once some solicitors lose a loved one in an accident due to how idiotically it's engineered and decide to start a class action, then we'll see more CEOs stepping down and one of the world leader manufacturer building such an awful reputation they end up out of business.
    Do you think those who used to run some companies from the past who used to be leaders and are now extinct or have been bought and re-invented saw their future coming?
    If a brand gets too complacent, it is doomed.
    Improve or go bust and make room in the market for some other brands who care more about the quality and safety of their cars.
    Maybe the current CEO doesn't care because by the time the damage is done they already retired with a fat cat pension.
    Hopefully the customers will care.

    The software and haptic buttons are still a dealbreaker, to make me not buy this car. All electric cars should have the following:
    1. Physical buttons to operate all the climate controls, including heating seats.
    2. Physical buttons on the steering wheel.
    3. Physical volume knob aside from the steering wheel.
    4. Physical buttons for operating the lights.
    All cars did this just five years ago.
    Until this arrives, I will not consider the any electric car, this is because of concerns about safety while driving. Design is clearly being put ahead of safety and usability. And please remove the button to change window operation on the armrest, it’s the worst thing VW has ever made.

    Well, that’s that then. That interior is still an absolute eyesore, the awful steering wheel controls are still the same and - judging by the video - the infotainment screen is still pretty clunky. Decision made; as a long term VW driver and currently owner of a pretty shabby id3 I will never buy another VW. They’ve lost their way since being found out with the Diesel Gate scandal it seems and have rushed this model into production. There are now better, much better, choices from other manufacturers. VW seem to have forgotten the basics. What a shame.
