Some early tests and information of a personal costume project. This project is on the backburner at the moment but is far from abandoned... just being approached differently than before.

the reason your balance is off is because weight distribution is thrown forward and raptors have a tail for counterbalance
Missy Rabbit needs more wait on his chest and needs a tail or even a weight behind him
That's why we evolved to be upright.bipedal Digilegged animals need to be build like a seesaw to balance.
screw that noise you walk like general grievous
Missy Rabbit love your profile pic :3
Not really, we have neither the hips and legs, or stance of a raptor. If we could build something that gave us their leg-power, we might need a counter-balance, maybe. Canine's balance issues are mostly due to wearing stiff stilts without much practice.
these need to extend up the thigh for more leg structure and suport, also alot of shock will be traveling up the spine.
Actually that is true
They are extremely cumbersome, however the footage from the video was only after a few hours of practice on the day I got them and I just wanted to show them off as soon as possible... so most of the trouble with them was simply my inexperience at the time of filming. If you'd like to see a much better performance in stilts, check out my newer video testing out the Area 51 digilegs. These guys are quite the deadweight strapped to my legs at 15 lbs total.

And thus began the age of the Furries
But seriously though, nice work! They look functional, but could probably be super intimidating if you dressed up as something super scary :D
+Xzener Like a realistic dinosaur?
+Xzener her eyes are pretty scary
Courier Six wrong. Furries started many years ago. I even heard all the way from ancient Greece.
@@JinsKookieJams Jesus Christ I was THAT serious back then? Compare me now and I'm always throwing out bad jokes
Isnt this going to be really bad on your spine?
It would be no problem for my quasimodo looking spine

you seriously need to make a tutorial video of how you made those legs of yours cause really awsome 😁
She didn't make them
they came from a website called area 51.
Shiggu SHE?
aesthetic wise it might be good for costumes and designs, but not really very comfortable for long durations from what it appears as.
I'd love to see the current progress of this project; even if there isn't that much of a difference.
Have you ever considered using/adding leaf springs like those used on jumping stilts for leverage or jumping power? It may prove a lot easier to walk with that kind of support.
The only thing that was going through my mind: "Covenant."
Ah yes, I definitely plan to air some build sessions over Livestream and would like to keep you guys more updated as I reach milestones. Thank you for your comments!
Omg! I'm not the only one with an advanced Alien character which strongly resembles raptors? Awesome!! Whenever you get to finish this, hit me up, we can do photoshoots!!
This is going to be so awesome! Can't wait to see it's entirety!
I have a digitigrade elf oc and this video is PERFECT for helping with poses, thank you for this!
Did u make it? Its 2017 now ;_; i must seeee
You have no idea |D
Day 1 was... omg. It kinda got my hopes up for awhile because I was such a wimp and couldn't even stand for more than 10 seconds and fell over a few times. I felt like I wouldn't be able to adequately use them in a costume at all! I'm happy to say now that my optimism is back and I will indeed master these stilts! I've got 6 months to do so- go go go!
THIS IS EPIC! Will use this for our Mecha cosplay thanks!
He dose look badass
I can't find videos of Theod finished! I am so curious of how he turned out after watching this!
Awesome! Thanks for the comments and see you there Doom! :3
These fucking stilts are the SHIIIIEEEEEET! Fugg'n A, mang.
Monoyasha is no longer selling raptor head blanks, but her velociraptor serves as much inspiration and her personal help will still be involved with bringing this costume to life. I am very much indebted to her for creating such awesomeness that showed me that my own was also possible... and I did have the opportunity to get my hands on examining one of her raptor blanks that a friend of mine had purchased.
Therefore I will be instead sculpting my own to match Theod's size and proportions.
Every fursuit maker’s dreams
I hope all goes well in your endeavors! It certainly is one of a kind and it's sure going to turn heads!
this is going to be so badass, i cant wait to see later progress
Nice to see you grow with your designs, every time more complex and better looking, keep the good work!.
P.D.: If you want to add electromechanical features or any kind of electronics i'm glad to assist in you or pointing in the right direction.
First of all I want to clarify that did not make these- they were commissioned from a friend with some bike building experience and access to a welder, not a professional prop maker or engineer, so I had no hand in the actual construction to ensure they would be durable and safe to use. It was a costly mistake but it can't be helped; now I'm approaching the production of a new pair much smarter. I am unsure by what you mean when you mention to "make them straight", perhaps you can clarify?
THIS IS WHAT I WANT FOR MY FURSUIT
That's gonna look super terrifying and AWESOME when finished :)
Those stilts would be awesome for a demon costume. Good work!
That actually looks really cool. I bet it would be awesome for some mech type suit or something.
hope you'll be able to see where you're walking without dying with whatever crazy head gear you'll be wearing in the end piece.
So glad to have found you, great to know you are out there. Totally commend you on the process of creation and realizing that starting over is sometimes the best way. I'm inspired by your creations.
Man i can't wait to see what this is going to end up looking like. I've been meaning to start trying to make a fursuit but i end up putting it off time and time again, also money, money helps everything. Especially when one need materials.
Great googa mooga, I need those digitigrade stilts. They're glorious.
OMG this is amazing! it's wonderful to see how your skills improved over the years! this is going to be a real challenge, and i can't wait to see it when it's done!!
Waking up and seeing this..
Theod is going to be AWESOME.
Haha right? I wanted to test its limits early on so we can tackle any problems that come up early. Still beautiful work and I appreciate all your effort! Thank you so much again Gir!
Either one can be equally creative and original, depending on design and effort! Neither is better than the other!
These stilts are gorgeous as fuck.
Thank you so much for your compliments! I really appreciate you taking a look at my work fellow stilt-walker ;)
That's mostly because my legs/feet were not properly secured in the stilts, we are modifying the straps now.
With all pleasure, you're welcome, talented you! :3
Thank you! I've been looking forward to doing an original character for quite some time now. Your speculations for many of the costumes' features may indeed be correct, but you'll just have to wait and see!
Digitigrade stilts definitely open up a lot of new creature costume opportunities :)
I'm glad you've gone through and watched all beginner creature costumes videos, that should definitely help you get started :)
As for extra tips, I am not sure what kind of tips you are looking for as I have no idea what your costume designs look like or current plans for going about building them. If you have a specific question, I will try my best to answer it though
Wow that is awesome Riley that is an excellent costume great job. I will be at the broadcast tomorrow to see you work on it I can 't wait to see it when it is finished
(Poly)urathanie high density foam. It's an open cell foam that's used in couch and chair cushions.
Dawww, well I do indeed hope to hit up a lot more cons in the near future. Any you're looking to attend? I'll happily shake your paw!
I have not, in fact... I'm starting completely over |D I wasn't happy with the head sculpt and then the slits ended up breaking so it's back to the drawing board. But I am far from abandoning this project! Just on the backburner until some kinks are worked out.
Indeed indeed! And I might make use of your help, never know what will come up. And at the very least I could use more entertainment on my Livestreams XD Thanks so much for your comments!
Yes, having a neck extension is also something new for me that will effect both my perception and performance- should be interesting! Thanks for your comments!
I knew who it was gonna be right off the bat. I can't wait to see this one finished! This is going to be such a gem! :D
Sweet! I can't wait to see how he turns out! Those stilts look fantastic...and difficult to walk in. XD Also can't wait to see how you do the elongated neck.
He's gonna look so freakin' awesome when he's done.
I live in Colorado. I have been looking to attend AC for years now, it's top of my list for a long-distance trip but it would be extremely difficult for me to get out there with Theod. I would love to meet other dinos, there simply aren't enough of them in existence!
Yes! That looks awesome *saving money for a pair of stilts*
If I ever end up losing my legs, I'm going to request digitigrade prosthetics.
I KNEW it was gonna be Theod! :D this can only end well.
I must say this is SUPER EPIC, can't wait to see more of theod. love all of your work.
Very cool. I've always wanted to try stilts like that and you're gonna make it work into a badass costume.
I always love videos with stilts like these.
Personally what I want to do myself is make a Minotaur costume. I'm a big guy who loves freedom of movement, so the idea of wearing very long stilts like that doesn't sit well with me (mostly because I'm afraid I'd break them), but thankfully minotaurs are tough, broad, and brawny, so smaller stilts that are tougher shouldn't be too hard for a guy like me to wear.
I hope this costume got completed. ^^
I want some!! how different and fun and just really cool looking.
The plan is to debut it at Rocky Mountain Fur Con this year, and then it's on to NDK after that :3 I'll hit all the major anime, sci-fi, comic, and fur cons with him for 2013 and many years to come.
May the Schwartz be with you on this year's costume. :3
urm..... did you make this or was it cancelled?
Zunny D Im starlord
Thanks Joel!
Awesomes! I totally called it once you said digi-stilts!
I can't wait to see the progress and the finished product!!
my wis has come true! WE GET TO SEE THEOD!!! I hope it'll be done to the best of your expectation Riley >w< Good luck!
Yes indeed, the tail is going to present some interesting challenges...
Nice, looking forward to it.
Unfortunately he will not be done in time for Denver Comic Con... that was the original plan, but the stilt production held me up until now so it's a little later start than I'd like and won't be a realistic deadline. Next year he'll be there for sure! For now, expect either Shadow Lugia or Groudon to be hanging out.
That's because every park in colorado made between 1990 and 2010 looks almost exactly the same. Semi-interesting fort with sand, grass that needs a little more water to thrive, and a few pine trees to fill it up. :p
They are a bit tricky. More tiring than anything, but I've got a lot of time to practice!
Gawd digigrade stilts...You can color me jealous now x3
Riley I knew it!!!! THEOD!!!!!! very cool I knew wen I seen the stilts. Now im even more pumped, cant wait for the Streaming, I will be watching you o.o.
Amazing! I can't wait for the livestreams!
Try using spring steel for the 'foot' to give the legs some flex.
Dude, this looks AWESOME!!!!
My tips regarding quadsuits... I would not suggest someone who is breaking into costumery to attempt such an advanced and potentially dangerous project. Even I don't feel I'm ready for something like that. Please do adequate research and prepare your body in advance for the physical strain it will encounter. Don't over-exert yourself and plan your design wisely. Make use of the fursuit livejournal community for advice and critique. And best of luck! Feel free to share your progress
Are you still working on Theod the Raptor? I think all of us would love to see an update video!
I think I found a solution to my shortness, these digitigrade stilts.
dude those stilts are sick!!
I bet they wore you out the first time wearing them XD
WHOA that's epic!
Awesome, handy lass! Will look forward fur the completion! :3
Wouldn't i love more to have is a flying dragon costume but just for my humble favorite I'll be wanting a salazzle costume, cause they strite good as Godzilla Jr in the series. 🦎🐲
digitigrade stilts are so much easter than normal stilts
I like the fact that you can stand still in these stilts, spring boots have that annoying tendency to be unstable if you're not braced against something. How do these feel for extended periods of wearing them?
*i didn't think you'd respond but* okay, thank you very much! i wish you good luck as well~
I would love to use the legs in a future robot-inspired costume! You can most likely plan on me doing so in the future. However as an animation major and this being a portfolio piece, I wanted to explore an organic character this time around. The character also has a set of armor I'm looking to one day upgrade him to and therefore will appear much more cyborg/sci-fi like.
Also the raptor isn't furry, it will be made from velour and airbrushed to give the look of scales.
OMG YES! THEOD!
Those stilts must get a little uncomfortable after a while owo; Can't wait to see it finished!
Holy fucking Hera Riley! Everytime I think you can't top yourself, you do
that will be a freaking amazing costume :D
So friggen awesome
Oh my gosh that's awesome
super awesome! ;D (its also a great inspiration seeing your progress over the years in the intro ^_^)
I was going OMG the whole time! Better be ready by RMFC i expect to see Theod there ;)
