    I love the simplicity of this stilts design. The lack of extra bill really opens up the possibilities for a costumes foot and leg shape through foam

    Found this video looking for one of these tutorials from under 6-7yrs ago and love the end result of this and you going through the troubleshooting at the beginning with your first go at this project. Also thanks for explaining why you chose steel over aluminum rods as an older tutorial similar to this one said aluminium and I don't weigh much more then 100lb but I wanna make a pair of these for a full costume and that will definitely bump the weight up, so better safe then sorry always ^^'
    Also, if ya still read these comments, please let me know if you have an eta for any new video on these projects that's not a timelapse, I can probably slow down the playback speed to help a bit but I'm afraid that make make the building section of the video pretty choppy and I'd love to try your modified method after doing this twice and finding a way that feels right to you without stuff like extra knee padding (though I plan on adding just as an in case measure for longer useage time) so thanks for this and thanks for your time, this was informative

    I would like to know if you would be willing to build another pair where I can purchase a pair from you?

    • @DoubleBitsWorkshop
      @DoubleBitsWorkshop  2 года назад +7

      Commissions can be tricky mainly due to shipping. I could make a pair for sale. But with my time and labor the cost with shipping might end up being close to $400. So in that case I would suggest Etsy might be cheaper and easier for you

    These are super cool! I want to make them and try adding them to my faun costume, get some extra height. Any idea if they'd be comfortable walking around a ren' fair? I imagine it might take a lot of energy.

    • @DoubleBitsWorkshop

    Any chance you would be willing to do up a plan to make these? Listing the materials needed and the steps and instructions to make them?
    I enjoyed your video, but honestly, with you making it all in time fast lapse......it's not something I am going to be able to figure out how to duplicate from just your video. Unless you are willing to do this all over again in real time step by step.
    I REALLY need to make a pair of these stilts for a Halloween costume I made my husband a few years ago. The stilts I made originally didn't last the night :( I want to make them just like yours, because yours are nice and stream lined and will fit well under the costume.
    One last question. How tall do you stand when wearing these?

      Thank you for your comment! I've been having a hard time between making a step by step video for each of my projects or just a lot of timelapse style videos, because my viewers are split between some like yourself really wanting each step which I'm more then happy to make, and the type who really enjoy TikTok and reels and end up on RUclips trolling me for "talking too much" I would be happy to revisit this video for you though. :-) because I've been making a pair of these for my brother and I would be happy to give a more in detail video on them. They were the brain child of my best friend, and we made his pair then this pair as an "upgraded version" thank you again for your comment. And I will see if I can get a more detailed tutorial ready and uploaded. :-) thanks again for asking.

    What are the dimensions of the wedge piece? Like the long piece was 18in but I made a 45 degree cut but it still doesn’t feel right. Do you put two together to make it longer?

    • @DoubleBitsWorkshop
      @DoubleBitsWorkshop  Год назад

      I used a 2x6 and just cut a 45° off the end for two pieces.
      Then did another 45° cut off the two pallet boards or "main piece" and put one 2x6 piece to each side.
      Using a 2x4 I mainly went off how long my toes to the ball of my foot was for length and did another 45° cut so they all match!
      Hope this helps!

    • @DoubleBitsWorkshop
      @DoubleBitsWorkshop  Год назад +1

      Also! The 2x4 chunk has to remain above the 2x6 pieces like your lining up the edges.
      Otherwise it will make you off balance! You might want a bigger overall height, but then your going to start having to use them like heels instead of just a mild walking change! Thanks for your comment!

    My life is so boring that I have decided to dedicate my summer to this, and a few other crafts, all I need is to write a list of what I need and find stuff not in use in my dad garage and my grandpa's junkyard and buy a few things from Amazon (with my own money) and put it together so my dumbass will finally, temporarily atleast, be happy in life, I'm not even a furry just a plain Jane dumbass

  • @midnightdemon4876

    Ok, so I’m making a giant demon costume, the lift hight for it has to be about 16in. Do you have any suggestions on how I might do that with your design? All that’s coming to mind for me is adding to the bottom of the stilts?

    • @DoubleBitsWorkshop
      @DoubleBitsWorkshop  Год назад

      You can change the angle of the mitre cut for the bottom of the stilt, like my buddy did, but it will take more balancing and make the design more unstable sadly. :-/ or you can try adding to the bottom. Might be a more stable approach!

      @@kensalvatore4672 it's a gained skill over time, but also you can adjust the show placement so the ball of your foot is more on the wooden block decreasing the toe pain. But they are putting your foot into a heal 👠 like shoe position.

    A whole year later, and I am still wishing you had not blasted the speed of this video up, and kept it in real time so that a person could follow what you were doing. 😣
    I would still really love to make a pair of these for a costume, but as you say in your video, you are trusting your weight to these stilts, and I just can't condone "guessing" at what you did and hope I got it right and possibly ending up with a broken ankle.......
    Please......make another pair of these stilts in real time.....not sped up. There's tutorial videos out there that are close to or over an hour long, and I am sure I am not the only one that would gladly watch it to get every step right. And you didn't show how you attached the shoes or did any of the brackets.

    • @DoubleBitsWorkshop
      @DoubleBitsWorkshop  Год назад +1

      I will take this into consideration. With life as crazy as it is right now I have barely had time to upload at all let alone get out into the workshop. I do have one set of these stilts that need assembled for a family member, but it has not only been on the back burner but buried in the back corner cabinet it's been so low priority. If I can get around to finishing that set, I will try to film the remaining steps with better instructions.
