I'm doing the exactly same steps as you, using the skptoosm plugin, exporting exactly the same area as you, and yet i'm getting a 2D result after the import on skp. Any ideas?

So I did all the steps, I downloaded the plugin and pasted it in the plugins folder but I'm still not getting the OSM importer option in Sketchup. I'm using Sketchup 2016. Any ideas for what I could be doing wrong?

So what happening is. If you are selecting any region from India it wont show up. Cuz India has strict restrictions on sattelite maps or drone shoots
Thanks! But something is wrong with the first method - OSM importer plugin. It always imports flat geometry only. Even if there is 3D data in that area (I double-checked). I am using SU 2020. Do you perhaps know how to fix it? Maybe it's no longer fully compatible.

I think it's not the case of SketchUp version. I tried with SU 8. Same problem.

i wonder if this was the problem caused from the OSM data which they didn't have building height tag?
@@supercat1997 In OSM heights of buildings are defined in two ways - "height" tag or "number of storeys tag". I didn't check which tags those buildings had, but I don't think this really is the issue. I checked very densely built areas, where probably both methods were used, and it failed anyway.
Can SketchUp export 3DS files of those city maps after you pull them into SketchUp? If someone could take a minute and answer I'd greatly appreciate it. Ty in advance.

1 Tienes que ver si en la ventana de herramientas "esquema" esta apagado el 3d o en las "etiquetas"
2 No en todos los mapas tienen edificios en 3D asi que tambien puede ser por eso.

you can Export SketchUp model to google earth (software) via kmz file but not on google maps.
Yes. Save your sketchup file in kmz format and open same in google earth pro you will be amazed to see output 👍

City suburbs and smaller towns are not 3D modelled in OSM. Only flat outlines.

Make sure you downloaded the right file type, there are two options for which version of Sketchup you are running

For me I tried to take a 3D model of a big city, Raleigh, North Carolina, and it got some of the big buildings but most of the smaller ones were just plan, so you need to draw them up (not too hard if you just take the points and pull them up, but it is tedious)

nice video, and info. but stupid rating the quality. a free is almost same as paid. You could have zoom in the streets to show how detailed it is(height, depth,etc.)

If you were trying to download some suburbs or small towns, there are no 3D models for them. But I guess it's just the matter of time that we get entire world 3D mapped.

Edit... ahhh, mac.... well, who knows with mac. Those bastards at Mac, have such a confined ecosystem, its a pain to install custom plugins manually.

ok, cadmapper is cool. it allows sizing up flat patches, and the houses will be there, very cool.
problem is the limitation at 1km, this is really not a bargain. I just wonder why the height of the buildings are not in the database, but their shape are.
we need to find something that can create larger areas, free.
cadmapper offers free cities, this is really cool. no textures of course.

Dude, is it possible to combine it with a hight map of the terrain ?
With Cadmapper you can also tick the option for downloading terrain model. It's not too accurate and you may get artifacts with building heights but it's worth trying.
