I was kind of hoping this tool would be better for "painting" a terrain like can be done in Unreal Engine. I ended up using the free trial for Artisan to do that and it worked great, but it's just too expensive to justify the purchase.
There's an extension to my question about accurately placing buildings on the terrain site plan ("stamp" feature) - first up i need to accurately show the site boundaries and required boundary setbacks, also other off-site features such as footpaths, light poles and underground utilities cover plates and THEN i need to accurately place the buildings (in my case these are houses).
I use a 2D CAD of the boundaries, etc. and Drape it on the terrain mesh. Or sometimes I apply a JPG image of the site plan as a projected texture over the terrain (although this is somewhat less accurate when the texture blurs).
I’ve had issues with that plugin in the past so if you need another way you can use the “from contours” and then the “mesh wrapper” plugin which is free and generate quads

For reference: The sandbox IS available in Sketchup Free 2017 Desktop version (now Sketchup "MAKE"). And yes, the Fredo tools are absolutely worth the $40. It's a little unclear who you actually paying to, where the money goes etc - but once you pay you do get the license numbers fast. Works great.
Uniform triangles that are significantly easier to work with. I'm not sure I'd agree it's more precise either, but if you don't have an issue with those meshes it's probably fine
@@Thesketchupessentials they follow the original shape more correctly. Quads are really only usefull/easier to work with if you need to adjust the mesh.

How possible is calculating of volume?
Anything 3D drawn on screen is converted to triangles anyway.
Also, the triangle way is way more precise.
