Well honestly, the Industry followed the Hollywood Standard that in order for women to be considered successful, glamorous and a sex symbol (eye candy) they had to be thin. As not to lose credibility and capital the Rap Industry followed suit until they saw the measured success and mass appeal from female rappers of the likes of Queen Latifah, Missy Misdemeanor Elliot, Mia X and any other big boned thick female emcees that ever rocked the mic. Basically in a nutshell, those women paved the way for rappers like Lizo

A lot of theses male rappers just signed a female rapper for diversity and to get a cut of the ladies earnings without having to pay them full price for a verse/feature. Notice how the ladies that were signed under a male rapper's label did a few hit songs with that rapper and those songs made the males even popular but didn't really establish the ladies career. The irony is that arguably the most successful female rapper of all times is Queen Latifah, when you look at the totality of her career in entertainment. And she's done exactly opposite of the rank and file female rapper. Doesn't rely on looks, sex appeal or any of that stuff... Just relied on her talent. And she's still around. The same could be said for Missy Elliot.. Just relied on the talent.

There’s a major pattern I see when it comes to black women in hip hop. (Really everything) but It seems like the ones who pave the way and make something cool gets whitewashed and replaced with lighter skinned women. I see it in rap, I’ve seen it in TV, I’ve seen it with the natural hair movement which was 100% started by Black women with 4c hair. Black women really do control the cool it’s just a shame that we can’t profit off of our own aesthetic the way non black women do. It reminds of the dresses white women wore in the 19th century that made their butts look huge. It’s really bizarre when you think about it.

No these women MADE CHOICES that ruined their careers. Anytime a woman fails its always the record company or a man, never women being accountable for their own actions. @@Think1stMedia BIG always get the credit for Lil Kim’s career especially with her verses on early Junior Mafia albums , in my opinion some of the rare times BIG isn’t recognized for Kim’s career is when they’re talking about her clothing and image which is credited to Misa Hylton
@@Think1stMedia Yes in some cases the woman’s choice have contributed to the downfall of their career. BUT you’ve got to admit the record labels definitely did some of these ladies dirty e.g. not enough promotion
@@freya1136 no I don't have to admit that the labels did them dirty because we have absolutely no proof that they were done dirty. At best we are making assumptions. It costs a lot of money to promote artist and very few freshman albums get lot of money 💰 for their marketing. Big marketing budgets are usually "earned" not given. Of course their is an exception here and there. But most of these ladies were paired with some major rappers on SEVERAL OCCASIONS at that point we must ask what did they do after all that exposure? Charlie Baltimore was given a spot simply because of Big but her talent didn't warrant a spot in a group with him and Jay Z. They HANDED HER OPPORTUNITIES she was not able to capitolize on them. Finally some people just don't make it and that isn't necessarily because a company did them dirty, often it is because the interest in their album was just not there!let's stop this conspiracy theory garbage and blame women for their choices. Not blame everyone else. Vanilla Ice ans Hammer fell off hard and we never blamed the industry we blamed them. That's taking accountability and that's what real adults do. As for Jackie O she earned everything she got. She had no major airplay and wasn't handed big collab opportunities. That lady did most of it on her own. Major props to her. Lil Kim took her opportunities and ran with them and so did Trina. Much respect to Rah Diggah for LYRICALLY being one of the hardest MCs ever. Amil was 135 and they considered that big but Bennie Segal was a whole big boy with no issue. I can't stand the entertainment industry
Yeah because Amil was pretty & The same thing happened with Eve too

while i couldn’t find her exact height online, in pictures she looks to be around the same height as beyoncé who’s 1.7m - so using that for reference, amil was at a perfectly healthy weight for herself at 135 pounds. the entertainment industry is extremely toxic and promotes so many unrealistic standards, it’s unfortunate she had to give up making music because of it.
It's ALWAYS sad when someone famous quits for whatever reason. The last two really struck a nerve. Amil wasn't ready for it and Jackie mentioned the sole reason I'm conflicted about rap. It perpetuates amd glorify horrible lifestyles for anyone.
Amil was LAME. She at 0 charisma and personality. I'm sorry but I think they picked her because her voice was just "different" at the time.
These women were used to create a buzz around the male rapper
Genius
The male rappers used their popularity to put these female rappers on the map. They made great features but when it came to the solo albums, you clearly just heard it, the sales were low. So watchu talking about Willis ?

There’s a major pattern I see when it comes to black women in hip hop. (Really everything) but It seems like the ones who pave the way and make something cool gets whitewashed and replaced with lighter skinned women. I see it in rap, I’ve seen it in TV, I’ve seen it with the natural hair movement which was 100% started by Black women with 4c hair. Black women really do control the cool it’s just a shame that we can’t profit off of our own aesthetic the way non black women do. It reminds of the dresses white women wore in the 19th century that made their butts look huge. It’s really bizarre when you think about it.

Record labels have ruined the careers of these women they could’ve been massive they’re so talented 💔
No these women MADE CHOICES that ruined their careers. Anytime a woman fails its always the record company or a man, never women being accountable for their own actions. Lil Kim was very successful but very seldom does Puff and Big get credit for their assistance but when a woman fails its always the company. SMH
Easily top 3 on the female side but up there with most dudes too. Unfortunately radio didn't play a lot of her stuff. But NEVER HEARD Rah Blame men nor the industry. Shout out to her, she was truly an MC!
Yes but as i've said in a previous comment, female rappers cost more to maintain their image. They need hairstyling, nail techs, wardrobe, make-up, etc., whereas male rappers are relatively easy on a record label's budget in comparison.
