  • Bathroom problem…. What not to do when fitting a new bathroom or renovating a bathroom as it will cause big problems in the future if ever there is an issue.
I see this so many times when people haven’t made access to fittings etc…. There is only 1 outcome and it’s major works and a problem that could of been avoided.

As an aside: @ 0.22 loads of tape around the isolators threads - UGH. That says it was done by a bodger / builder not a plumber! If the comp. joint is done properly, a tiny smear of sealant on the OLIVE not the threads plus a drop of silicone oil on the threads will do just fine.

Brilliant tip reg the plug on the trap going on the outside. I’ve got both the folding bucket and the tap kit which my Mrs bought for my birthday last year after seeing it on your channel. One thing though about the bucket don’t fill it too full or it will collapse as it happened to me while cleaning out an F&E tank but apart from that they’re a great job. Keep up the good work mate.

We cement board then cut out an access hatch just under the size of a single tile. Tiler then tiles the cement board when then sit it in place and use same colour silicone to fill in the grout joints while packed in place then return to remove spacers and fill in small bits of silicone so if ever needs access your just cut silicone and the section of panel is removable and you never know. No chrome screws heads etc looks banging. Love the vid

the clue is in the word "bung" ,it's designed to obstruct flow, if it was designed to contain flow it would be called a "cap" hence it's not designed to contain flow by the amazing power of friction, the bung goes in the pipe unless you have some data that tells you that the potential flow cannot overcome the superior bit of flappy rubber over the end of the pipe

The blank goes into the spigot not the trap body. If you put the blank on you finger and then insert it into the spigot you get it in the right way. If you put them on the end they end up splitting 👍🏻

    • @MJTiffPlumbing
      @MJTiffPlumbing  Год назад +3

They CAN go into the spigot, but I’ve been to 3 houses with flooded kitchens after people have moved into house that have been blanked off like that and the customers didn’t know (as you can’t see it) and connected the WM…. Which when emptied caused the flood.
As said I always put them visable so you can see them… never had one split in 20+ years…
But like I said each to there own…. We all do things different👍🏼👍🏼

There's the contrast between the two jobs: capping the spike visibly is plumbing for the future, whereas installing a bathroom where you need to be a stonemason to do a simple fix is very much not. With a bit of luck, concealed plumbing will go the way of avocado bathroom suites and just fall out of fashion one day soon.

It’s about common sense ,making sure there is access & keeping things neat & less complicated as possible . I am a joiner & back in the day did a pre apprentice course at 15 - 16 years of age at building dept at tech college . The course consisted of 4 trades plus building science ,history of building & all the usual subjects . Most plumbers these days can’t even do a wiped joint from lead to copper or form & dress a stop end outlet ,from a single sheet of lead . I have seen some right nightmare plumbing that resembled an oil refinery in my time ,since the introduction of plastic ,pipe & fittings ,things have got even worse ,the game is full of chancers . I am glad I have now retired & don’t have to sort their F ups before I can get around to my own trade .

Hi Mark, I'm new to your channel and found you off the moaning customer video which was about right. I work as a handyman/maintenance at 2 care homes for a company of which 99% of the staff are women and seem to be experts in most fields of maintenance and repair. I love that folding bucket and am also going to have a look at at that tap spanner set. Keep up the good work. New subscriber here!!

Welcome aboard buddy, glad you’ve found the channel and hope you enjoy the content.
The bucket is a lifesaver at times, as is the Tap Spanner kit…. Expensive but worth every penny

@MJTiffPlumbing I am in the heating and plumbing industry 56 years and it is a waste of time putting PTFE tape on the treads of a compression fitting it will not stop a leak as the joint is made between the pipe scampered edge of the fittingand compression ring

£200 worth of making good to glue up an overflow, makes no sense to tile everything in with no access. At some point you will be ripping that toilet out to replace a leaking flush pipe seal.

I remember thinking that could end up with a problem as who apart from him would know there's a bung in it. So i still continue to do it our way.

what were the grey pipes from? I hope those sockets are more than 3m from a bath or shower or has the 3m rule changed. Personally a bathroom is a place where wet hands can touch the switch and I'd avoid a socket like those in the bathroom. I have seen a fuse box in a bathroom. That was scary
