I keep seeing game show that even I have not seen before, and they keep getting better every time "The Winkster" puts them on YT. Wink, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!
Wink, thank you so so much for sharing this rare pilot. We really appreciate everything you do. ❤️ This particular pilot’s interesting to say the least. It’s nice to hear Charlie O’Donnell announcing (hopefully we can see more pilots with him announcing) and I really like the host, Jeremy Beadle. The game’s got a nice bit of humor, although the set could be a bit of an eyesore. Pretty sure NBC’s schedule was packed at the time, maybe that was the reason it didn’t sell. But a really nice pilot. ❤️
It looks very elaborate for a pilot set, almost as if it already had a couple seasons under it's belt. The 1982 version of "21"'s set was very stark and simple by comparison.
Wow, Beadle hosted a pilot in the US? He was a TV veteran in the UK, where he devised, produced and wrote shows down the years, he was also the original presenter of the Barry/Enright show Chain Letters (A Mark Maxwell Smith show a relative of mine was involved with at Tyne Tees TV), and the UK version of Win Ben Stein's Money. I'm assuming he had something to do with the format of this show as he'd be a bit of an unusual choice as a straight emcee - this does have a whiff of the kind of stuff he'd come up with - as can be seen here he was good with contestants and was an absolute master of the wind-up as well.
Michael Hill, whose Little Joey, Inc. produced this show, also produced the successful hidden-camera prank show "Game for a Laugh" for ITV, which Jeremy Beadle developed and co-hosted. I suppose this was an attempt to bring a bit of that format to the United States. Success always seemed to elude Hill in the USA, whether by himself or with frequent collaborator Bob Eubanks.
@@gatorman295 You're right. Michael Hill and Bob Eubanks ("The Newlywed Game") produced game shows such as "The Guinness Game", "All-Star Secrets" which Bob Eubanks hosted for NBC, and the "You Bet Your Life" revival. They also produced "The Toni Tennille Show".
Never in a million years I thought I'd hear Charlie O'Donnell say the name Jeremy Beadle, and vice versa. As for the show itself, this was a throwback even by the standards of 1985. This format is something that would have fit right in on the TV of the 50s, but not daytime network TV of the 80s. Now, if it was sold to syndication, it very well could have sold. I could definately see independent stations picking this up, though I doubt it would have lasted more than one season.
And Jeremy Beadle is not the only British Gameshow host hosted in USA We had Bruce Forsyth From Bruce's Forsyth Hot Streak(ABC), Anne Robinson Weakest Link USA (NBC). And Michael McIntyre from The Wheel Also on (NBC).
Jeremy Beadle is one of the few British emcees to host an American game show. He was also the host of "Win Beadle's Money" which was the UK adaptation of "Win Ben Stein's Money". He passed away in 2008 so it'll be 15 years since he died.
I love the theme song to this game show pilot. I'm thinking NBC passed on the "Family Follies" game show pilot for "Your Numbers Up" in the 10:00 AM time slot. This probably could have worked in the 4:00 PM afternoon time slot. But the problem there is that many network television stations aired syndicated TV shows such as talk shows, court shows, syndicated TV reruns of on and off network shows, cartoons, and other game shows. "Family Follies" could have worked as a syndicated TV game show. But another problem there. The syndicated TV market was filled with other syndicated TV game shows such as "The Nighttime Price Is Right", "The Joker's Wild", "Jeopardy!", "The New Newlywed Game", "The $100,000 Pyramid", "Tic Tac Dough", "Wheel Of Fortune", the new version of "Break The Bank" in 1985.
So we have Truth or Conseqences, Grudge Match (old Jesse Ventura game show) and your typical court show drama. And for some reason UK host Jeremy Beadle is in there. Truly, something does not clicked
Jeremy Beadle would have been the natural choice to host this as he was well-known on UK TV as a practical joker having hosted 'Game For A Laugh' from 1981 until 1985, and hosting 'Beadle's About' (a Candic Camera-type show) from 1986 until 1996. He also hosted Chain Letters, Born Lucky, Win Beadle's Money and Definition here in the UK, and was a writer and consultant on loads more. An extremely knowledgable man, he was also a tireless fundraiser for charities in the UK, particularly Leukamia, raising close to £100million. In a cruel twist of fate he contracted the disease in 2005 and despite being clear of it, and kidney cancer a year earlier, his health had weakened considerably and contracted pneumonia in 2008 and died from it at the age of just 59.
I thought hearing the theme from Mindreaders, Puzzlers and Celebrity Charades in this pilot was odd, but you have the theme most commonly associated with the "Feature Presentation" intro found on Disney VHS tapes heard here as well.
love the content, Wink! Do you by chance have the unaired pilot for the US version of UK/French classic Countdown from 1990? Played by Woody Harrelson and Heather Thomas, hosted by (not that) Michael Jackson.
Jeremy Beadle was best known for hosting British TV game shows including Chain Letters, Game For a Laugh and Win Beadle's Money(the British version of Win Ben Stein's Money).
A combined game show/court show where contestants have to prove to the jury if either contestants are lazy or have disagreements by presenting evidences with their papers.
I got a very errie feeling after hearing the host announce what whas going to happen in the next episode and who the contestants were, knowing that there were no more episodes after this. It's weird, almost like the world unexpectedly turning into a void.
It's trying to be The People's Court in game show form, but I found the dialogue and game in general to be really stupid. "I have a severe asthma problem", "OHHH, HA HA HA". Then when did the "penalty" portion, that was really dumb. I don't know, I just didn't get it.
OK. This seems like a mix between _People’s Court_ and _Truth or Consequences._ On acid. Also, Jeremy Beadle. It is like a giant warning. The last time a British hosted an American Game Show it did end after a few months in production. _(Bruce Forsyth’s Hot Streak)_ This one was “lucky:” he didn’t go beyond pilot. Also, Beadle hosted the British adaptation of the legendary _Win Ben Stein’s Money:_ ruclips.net/video/LkPotE7X84A/видео.html
That's a very fun format, but I see why it wouldn't get picked up. Having spouses/siblings/parents air their grievances on TV like this would exacerbate a lot of those grievances no matter which way the studio jury decided.
I like the concept, but not as a game show. Besides the 2,000.00 shopping spree, no one else won anything. I don’t even think a prize was announced for the 2 nd couple (the twins). And for the first couple, they never stated whether the husband passed or failed.
Glad to see this didn't make air. Unfortunately, had it been presented about 15 years later, not only would it make air, but probably win several Emmy awards....
There’s no game here. Beadle is influencing the audience with his comments- he favors one contestant which is a big no in hosting, even in lighthearted affairs like this. I hope he was a better host in the UK because he was dreadful here. I almost turned it off after about five minutes but soldiered through. At least Truth or Consequences with Barker’s superb hosting was fun.

I know that music for that game show! It's the Great Ovation by Steve Gray, Disney used that for the Feature Presentation bumper.
Never knew Jeremy Beadle hosted a game show in America! And with Charlie O. in the booth, too!

@Survivor1547 also Eamonn Holmes hosted the Rich List on Fox which was imfamously cancelled after just 1 episode aired.

the guy that hosted this pilot was Jeremy Beadle and the year was 7/29/1985

Also "Catch Phrase" and "Headline Chasers", along with reruns of "Match Game" and "Card Sharks".
Also $ale of the Century Nighttime.
That would shoot my theory that "your number's up: was only going to last 13 weeks win, lose or draw and was just picked up as filler.

This should have sold. The format needs a little tweaking, but I feel it's solid.

Do you also have the pilot episode of SHAFTED? It was produced by Endemol for CBS in 2001...
This is a very unknown game show from 1985!!
It’s Beadle! Saw him on Chain Letters in the UK in 1987.
Love the cues from “Mindreaders”. It would be great if they’d be found in the clear one day.

who hosted this & what Year was this?
@@tommyhoffman969 Jeremy Beadle, copyright says 1985.
@@tommyhoffman969 Well, Jeremy Beadle (an English television personality) was the host and the pilot was shot in 1985.
@@tommyhoffman969 I think that's Tim Curry wow !!
When did Tim Curry host gameshows ??
I had to Google the production company, never heard of them. Only other credit I can find is all-star secrets.

Who watching this didn't get the sudden urge to yell "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!"?
It looked more like a pre cursor for "Eye For An Eye"!
I think Warner Bros. Discovery television should look at putting this show into first run syndication.
Hope You Have More Rare Stuff With Glenn Scarpelli From One Day At A Time
That theme...it sounds like the Walt Disney Feature Presentation music "Great Ovation"
It took me a while to recognize that

Might have been better with Bob Eubanks.
What a minute, The late British personality Jeremy Beadle hosted this game show pilot? It's odd seeing somebody from 🇬🇧 host a show in America.
Hmmm…that opening cue is a variation of the theme to Mindreaders.

Jeremy Beadle! I've seen him on GAME FOR A LAUGH here on YT😎. Kinda reminds me of TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, with the penalty stunts. Not a bad shiw!

Dire. "Comedy Courtroom" minus the comedy and the courtroom.
Strange to see #BlanketyBlanks Jeremy Beadle fronting a American game show

The Marriage Ref pretty much ripped off this concept.

A nother boring show no cars no trips
I don't care for foreign hosts
