HOW TO CARE: RHAPHIDOPHORA DECURSIVA (NOT EPIPREMNUM PINNATUM!)

  • PLEASE READ! hey guys - it was brought to my attention shortly after uploading this video that this plant is the rhaphidophora descursiva and NOT the epipremnum pinnatum as I referred to in the video. They get mixed up a lot (as I now come to realise!) and were often mis named when they first came out in Bunnings and other plant stores. Really sorry about that guys - I would take what I say here with a grain of salt just because the information sources I referred to would be for the epipremnum pinnatum (e.g natural habitat). The care tips should still be applicable as they were mostly based on my own growing experience.
    To educate myself a bit more on the differences between R.Descursiva and E. Pinnatum - I found this forum useful: sites.google.c...
    Also I understand now that to truly distinguish between R.Descursiva and E.Pinnatum you need to wait until the leaf matures - the E Pinnatum will have little holes along the middle blade of the plant.

    Heya everyone! Getting to the end of the week guys woo! I must admit, I haven't been too motivated at work recently BUT motivated to do research on plant care! 😂Beautiful day to have been outside today so really appreciated the lovely weather 💚 hope you guys found some time to yourselves today!

    Thank you so much for this information. I am glad to find out that I have one. All your descriptions match my Dragon Tail perfectly. Also mine is trying to commit suicide by turning the leaves yellow that you addressed and I agree, too much water. BUT I've only watered it once since buying it about 2 weeks ago. I did buy dowels from Lowe's and made a trellis. My Rappy will not be going outside. I'm going to cut off those yellow leaves and check the water with a probe. Thanks.

    Hi there! Happy to find a Aus channel about indoor plants! : ) I recently purchased a baby rhaphidophora decursiva from Bunnings on clearance that was sitting in the rain kind of coming apart from loose soil in its pot. I’ve repotted it in some Osmocote Scott’s I had on hand so hope it will survive and won’t have root rot!

    Thank you for the info - I have just bought one of these plants at Bunnings, labeled as the E.p, so I suppose I’ll have to wait a while for it to grow to see if it really is the E.p. Great to find a plant channel with good info on Australian conditions - and a friendly face!

    I just bought this plant @ a market in NYC. In fact I bought 2 & didn’t know they were the same plant. One pot had split leaves & the other was very juvenile leaves. When I watched this video I discovered my error. Thank you for the detailed info. In this video.

    Thanks so much for the extra info in your pinned comment. I didn't know the difference either and I have bought this from bunnings too. Mine is only about 1/2 metre. Yours is so impressive. One of the bunnings garden workers told me it's usually fine to re-pot anytime of year in Sydney weather. I don't know if that's true? Maybe when you re-pot yours you could position it to grow upwards if you wanted to.

      Not a problem! My apologies for the confusion initially! Apparently there was mislabelling at bunnings/ commercial nurseries when it first came out and I relied on what the tag was saying...good lesson in being critical!
      Ah that's good to know! I probably will have to pot him up soon and not wait to spring because I'm finding more yellowing leaves

    Hello! Thank you for this video. I live in the states where these plants are very rare and I am having a hard time getting information so I’m hoping you can help! Mine has sent out this long stem, about 6 feet but the stem doesn’t have any leaves yet, it just keeps going and going. Will the leaves come eventually (shooting off this stem?) and I need to be patient or does it sound like something is wrong? I wish I could upload a photo! The conditions as far as light and everything seem fine, and it did produce two large leaves within the last few months, but not on this particular stem that keeps climbing...

    • @angelmartin7310
      @angelmartin7310 2 года назад

      I bought mine a couple years ago at Brian's in Kentucky and recently contacted him asking the same question and he told me to take cuttings and plant them back into the pot. He said cutting it will encourage branching and the cuttings will make it look fuller. I have large leaves but almost a foot of stem in between them. But the cuttings are doing well, didn't lose any leaves.
