Heat the gas bottle up with your fan heater. We've had to do that on new-year eve with the out door bbq and it worked well

  • @philbrooke-little7082
    @philbrooke-little7082 6 месяцев назад +2

Just warm the gas bottle in front of the fan heater or with electric blanket or put in your coat (close to skin) for a few minutes. In the old days on a boat with butane the routine was pee on the gas bottle (on the towpath) to get enough gas to boil a kettle to tip over the bottle to cook breakfast.

    Autoterm planar, diesel heater 👍
Had mine in my van since Jan 2020, I live in my van so it's sometimes on all night on tick over, still going strong now, never played up once. (sometimes the screen don't turn off but I just un-plug it and plug it back in, I have the old screen, new ones rectified that issue). Get them to fit it, get 3 yrs warranty then 👍
I live full-time in my van and its quiet!! I mean really quiet, great for stealth camping. Something worth bearing in mind, considering what you do😏. Excellent customer service from them as well.
As for your cooking, cold cannister will do that, Butane don't like the cold. Which is why you keep your van warm, I use one of them cookers with no issues plus an OEX JetBoil cooker for hot drinks (1x cup of water boils in seconds).
    Great music, nice touch🙏

The challenge with your gas is easily solvable if you keep the gas can warm, I have an old pair of socks to insulate them when not in use, this then keeps the gas at a temp to cook 😊

Keep one gas bottle inside your coat to warm up then keep swapping them over as the gas bottle gets cold.
Or, there is a modification you can do to those stoves where you cut a small strip of steel and slide it through a slot between the burner and then underneath the gas bottle.
One end gets heated by the burner and the heat is conducted along the strip which heats the gas bottle

couple things Shawn, Its called a Tri-Service station, ( i used to work there )the police and ambulance are 24/7, but the fire are retained. The police and ambulance dont use the sirens during the night unless really needed, the fire love it and put them on whenever they get out of bed. Also, the car park on the cliff at the end of the harbour is patrolled quite a bit, so be careful if you camp there.

Buy cheap, buy 4 x diesel heaters even, but it’s still works out much cheaper than buying the expensive type. Just fitted mine to the van last weekend mate.. works a dream. If you’ve got one already get committed to fitting it! Do, however, buy the “proper” fuel line, clips, I read the cheap parts that come with the heater aren’t great and are the main cause of issues. Install it well, if/when it fails, change the bugger.. keep warm, thanks for the videos as always! Cheers!

Get your cheap diesel heater installed, theyre a game changer. Use the heater correctly and it’ll be fine, after using it on medium or low stick it on high for at least half hour to burn the soot out of it. Mine works great and it’s been in now for about 2 1/2 years, if it went faulty tomorrow I would happily replace it with another cheap one.
Use Propane for cold conditions but I have not seen Propane in those little cans, when you flick the switch on that stove to lock the gas bottle on check that it has sealed. That’s the weakness of that type of stove, the can of gas doesn’t seal correctly and can cause gas leaks very easily which you can normally hear the gas leaking. They are great stoves and very stable, just be mindful of the gas can.

Morning Shaun great video as usual that pie and chips looked lovely, suggestion and its not windows 😂🤣 have you considered fitting LPG gas tank the gas works in all weathers. And you could then fit a gas stove and if you want heating with an added bonus HOT WATER . Get the Truma unit we have one and its amazing one unit gives you it all.just a thought. Electric is great on a camp site but diesel or LPG is the way forward to be filly self sufficient. And its cheep to refill. Stay safe buddy see you next week. Michael notts.

    2 cans and alternate them.

  • @richardwillson101
    @richardwillson101 4 месяца назад

Its an old video, so im sure you have sorted it, but it may benefit somebody in future...
Those butane stoves are awful and there is a reason the gas is often sold in large multi packs.
The butane canisters steuggle when either the temperature drops or the pressure in the can drops, which are linked of course.
People are MUCH better off buying a £20 Cylinder top hiking stove and the propane/butane mix canisters.
The bigger the gas cannister, the cheaper it is for the qty of gas, by a huge mile.
I spent over a year living in my van with a small hiking stove as my primary means of cooking.
They are also compact and easy to throw in a rucksack so you can make a brew when out and about!

Kipping overnight in Hayle takes me back to 83 when a few of us toured Cornwall in an old battered about VW campervan, We lived on pasties and cider for a week, god did that van stink in the mornings 😆. I always try to keep a warm canister or two to swap over from the cold one when cooking in the cold, a bit of a faff or buy the more expensive butane propane mix.

    Few tips from a chef:
    1. use a silicon or wooden spoon on a teflon pan unless you like to eat teflon sprincles.
    2. an £8 temperature probe from amazon will cure your salmonella anxiety (75C or above is safe)
    3. if you have a low heat problem use a lid. trapping heat in the pan should do the trick.
this van is an absolute beauty!

Hayle's still a building site ... how many years have they been 'improving' Hayle? I'm pretty sure there were cranes there in 2017!
As others have likely said, Butane becomes a liquid at - 0.5 Celsius (just below water's freezing point), so as it gets near to that it doesn't burn too well (the can also gets cold as the pressure is released in use, so it's likely the gas gets so bit colder in use, hence it started fine). Propane stays as a gas down to - 42 Celsius ... at that temperature you'd probably be shivering too much to cook!
The insulation slows down the flow of heat - both from inside to outside and from outside to inside ... in winter each time you open the door you will lose heat and it will take some time to warm up again (a very long time if you don't have a heater as people don't generate a great deal of heat when still). I don't think it will ever be colder than the outside (once the sun has gone down), but it could feel colder as you are likely to be moving when outside ...
I started to write this before I got to the end ... I'll keep it here in case it's of use to you (when you need to replace your heater ;-) or to someone else fitting out a van. One of the other channels I watch (Ruth Aisling) has just installed a diesel heater (and provided a link that went to www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001337957050.html - I took the tracking off) - she'd researched them for a while ... it's apparently a reasonable cheap one, rather than a replace after a year cheap one!

You had more than one gas canister. Use the burner to warm up the other canister(s) when you're camping in low temperatures.
Or have a blowtorch handy to give the butane canisters a bit of a jazz up.
Even a cordless battery heat gun will do the job.
Anyone born after about 1993 might be unable to do this without blowing themselves and their van up.
