    Minor correction; break a leg is usually used to wish someone good luck in acting or some kind of performance art. That's why all the examples in the video occur either on a stage/backstage or at an audition. You typically wouldn't use it in an everyday scenario.

      I'm not sure that you're a native or not. But I literally heard it in the movie, teenagers in high school theme, where a girl wished to her friend "break a leg" for her exam.
      The word derived from opera culture but it's not limited for using only in performance/acting situations.

    • @Solomon-pg4mf
      @Solomon-pg4mf Год назад +6

      @@jojomorgan Depends how you define the term, but for all intents and purposes I am essentially native. I agree that it's not exclusively used in performance art but, 9 times out of ten, people outside of that context will say "best of/good luck" rather than "break a leg".

    • @davesummers7258
      @davesummers7258 Год назад +9

      I'm a native speaker. I use it for "good luck" for exams, interviews and "performances" of any type.

    • @Tocinos
      @Tocinos 2 года назад +1

      We also shorten it like, "piece a cake."
      It's common to see, "a" replacing, "of" in casual conversation.
      So you might hear, "Bunch a people." instead of, "Bunch of people."
