I understood the book completely only on my third reading. And i yet keep finding out newer meanings and perspectives in the video analysis that I look up🤣 To be honest, on my first reading i really found it bogus and not worth reading, it was because i barely knew what was going on LMAO. But the more i understood the more i started to appreciate it. The deep conversations between Lizzie and Jane, and Lizzie and Darcy were a delight WHEN I understood them. And I'm not even a native English knowing person, I'm a teen still in the process of having my command over this language. This is a simple story but the intricate descriptions and narrations of what is ye character is thinking makes it special. I honestly feel proud of myself for finally understanding the book lmao.
It's nice that the father in this story actually wants his daughters to be happy instead of wanting them to be rich. Most modern stories that I have read that are set in the past often paint the father as the greedy one who wants to marry off his daughters only for money, which is sad that that has somewhat become a stereotype.
Imho the father does have a failing. Instead of caring about their happiness i think he lacks care for them at all. He only prefers lizzie cus she's witty. A father shouldn't give attention to his children based on how much they amuse him. His failing also caused Lydia's demise. So, I don't really like him or think he's better than greedy ones by any mean.
But Mr Bennett is not a good father at all (or a good husband) neither is Mrs Bennett to be sure but she atleast has her daughters interest in mind when all she wants is for them to be settled and married rich before their estate is entailed from them. Mr Bennett on the other hand has no care for his daughters future's. He tries to avoid conflict as much as possible and COMPLETELY neglects his 3 youngest daughters. If Mrs Bennett spoiled Lydia it was his duty as the father to keep her on track and not let her go run wild, he lets her go to Brighton even after Lizzie confesses to him the dangers of it because he just wants to get rid of the whining and bickering and wants peace at home. We're talking of 18th century England, He had more power and authority that he could have used and not neglect his family. Lastly, he only prefers lizzy because she's sensible and witty and Jane because she's not silly. It is parents duties to fix the lack of character in their kids and not hate them or neglect them because of it.
I’ve only got to read one chapter and answer some questions. So I ended up here to try and get a grasp of the whole story line. Thanks for producing this.
English is my third language, but normally I never had a problem reading such books or novels till I Discover Jane Austen's books. Don't get me wrong I still read the book I just didn't understand all of the situations clearly. That's why I'm grateful for this video, for explaining the content thoroughly.
True. I only understood it completely and totally only on my 4th reading which I just finished yesterday lol. The first time I had no idea what was going on, like i understood the words and phrases seperately but couldn't comprehend their greater meaning together. the second i deciphered the plot, third reading i could finally enjoy and appreciate the deep conversations and reflections of Lizzy and Jane and lizze and Mr darcy. And in my 4th reading when I thought I had understood it completely i yet kept finding out more and more newer detail, it's so interesting. I'm in my late teens and actually proud of myself being able to understand a centuries old classical work in a language that is not even my own, you should be too.
i am sorry to hear that you have so many struggles with reading jane austen. english is my second language and i got in contact with the 1995 series in english in a time, were the internet and dvds with subtitles were not common at all, so i totally can understand that: the english expressions are quite outdated, some words nowadays mean something completly different and the complete social setting is so far away from how we live today. but, please, give it a try. look at channels like "ellie daswood" or "dr octavia cox", they both explain very well the living conditions, the bennets were in and how to understand, why jane austens work is timelessly good. today, after knowing much more about the background, i truely enjoy reading jane, there is always something new to explore. 🙂
I mean absolutely nothing by this, but I cannot find the charm or wit in Austen's works whatsoever. Everything that others always laugh at just seems... completely mundane. Minus Mr. Bennet's words.
@@notsomething7561 for me I laughed loads through the book mainly because of the funny things that characters did. (darcey awkwardness, Mr Collins I found SOOO funny, the mum (because of how dramatic she is and how she reminds me of my own mum) I like observing people and learning about their personalities and quirks which made me enjoy this book, but if you're more interested in like, objects, engineering and facts (idk where I'm going with this) I feel like it wouldn't be as enjoyable
Same for me!! I really enjoyed Mr. Darcy's bumbleness too, and Mrs. Bennett really did remind me of so many mothers who I know 😂 it's true the language is a bit difficult, but for me I found so much wit and charm in Pride and Prejudice. (one part that sticks out it me is when Mr. Collins writes to Mr. Bennett warning of the doom that will follow if Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth marry, and Bennett simply replies, in one or two sentences, that they will indeed marry.) I'm sure there were many other parts, but ill have to get the copy first!!!
Is persuasion good? I just finished reading (for the 4th time lol) pride and prejudice and I LOVED IT now I that i understood it completely. What will be the order of books that you'd recommend from Jane Austen? I've heard that pride and prejudice is her top work, i should've read it at last. But I'm going to read persuasion next. Is it good enough?
@@smollilbean my mum tells me she loved sense and sensibility more than pride and prejudice, I've started reading it and I feel like it's a little bit less interesting but still good so u can read that next if you want :D I'll defo be reading persuasion if this commenter says it's really good
I like Pride and Prejudice very much and I hope my comment will help you (if you are forced to read it) and will understand it better. *You must do the following:* 1. You should know that *Oxford Readers* exist. It is grade reader that summarizes classic stories from Shakespears to Mark Twain, anything you wish for. It doesn't only tells the story in a very simple terms, it also includes dialogues which are simplified for easy understanding. I've read the Pride and Prejudice with enthusiasm, with shock, with laughter and excitement. I was also thrilled at the end because of how the story unfolded. It was a really interesting book. I've read it in one sitting! 2. You must know that Jane Austen wrote *Sense and Sensibility* first before the *Pride and Prejudice.* You can read the Sense and Sensibility first (which is also available in grade readers) because it much simpler than P&P in terms of the setting. You'll be familiarized with what is the role of women, what is marriage to women, and how women find husbands in the 1800s. If you read the S&S first, you know the standard practices and social norms easily. Since the Oxford reader made it simple. Trust me. P&P is really interesting and not boring to read and you will find yourself laughing and get excited.
It is written towards the end that Mr. Bennet actually kept the expenses in check and made sure they would not exceed the income. The Bennets never bothered saving for the daughters' dowry because they assumed a male descendant would come and inherit the place they lived in and everything else. After five daughters and no sons, however, they gave up, and by then it was too late to start saving.
I think that means art or writing work is definitely subjective because i grew more founder of this book the more and more i kept finding newer details. The deep reflections and narrations of what a character was thinking and their emotions definitely did not make it boring for me. The book also has some funny characters like Mr Collins and Mrs Bennett's behaviour. Infact, the ENTIRE MAIN PLOT was quite hilarious to me. Cause there's Mr Darcy, attempting to break off his friend's marrying miss Bennett because of her inferior connections than goes on to marry in the same family. The mortification of Elizabeth as her family continues to embarrass her at the ball made me feel anxious too. Lydia's thoughtlessness and lack of acknowledgement to what she'd brought on her family by eloping with Wickham made me grow angry towards her and seeing Miss bingleys constant flirtatious attempts to secure darcy's regard FAIL made me laugh and feel sorry for her. And I'm also not old and turned 19 exactly a month ago. But to be completely honest, I read it first when I was about 16 and also considered it boring and bogus then, but that's cause on my first reading i barely knew what was going on. Only when I'd read it for the fourth time i could say that I'd finally understood each and every line. So i think it also means that You're quiet not able to get meaning out of the book. Cause in my opinion it was a whole ass drama and far from boring.
This is everything I needed because I just finished reading the book for a class but I just couldn’t fully understand what was going on
Well its true that it's hard to read as it was written 200 years back i had to look up for words meaning alot!
Same with me... I guess only me that feel like that and after see this comments actually I'm not alone 🤭

This summary ofJane Austen's great novel manages to tell the story without a trace of Austen's charm or wit.

Masterpiece he has too much pride. And she has too much prejudice it just works
I read this but it's so long i need to make sure I didn't miss any main plot point lol
great video summary for a book that is extremely tiring to read
Got a test today and didn’t read the book at all. Let’s see how well this video does for my grade
What happened
The Bennets are not poor. Mr. & Mrs. Bennet just overspend their income.
I boring to read but the concept is clear after listening your video. Thankyou ❤
The explanation is so nice
I wish you were Pride and Prejudice teacher in my school
English is my second language I’ve learned since I was a little kid and I haven’t been able to understand anything

This book was WAY too long for how annoyingly short it is storywise. Elizabeth and Darcy were instantly appealing to read, at least.
is there video of return of the native?
A couple of details here are wrong and you left out some pretty important bits, but overall not a bad summary
