Man, I miss the days we weren't so inundated with sports highlight shows and talking heads. During the week, you get a little segment on the local news, and newspaper box scores, then Mel Allen on the weekend. Golden age.
Agreed - it seems like the talking heads try to be THE highlight - as much as I like Chris Berman …I think it started with him …when god made Mel Allen he broke the mould
It's once a week occurrence made the show special and far more appealing. Mel Allen made it all that more so. Let me also add, a time when players coaches said out loud what was on their minds far more often........no matter what the sport.
The music brings me right back to my childhood. Absolutely timeless. A GREAT Baseball era documented by this wonderful weekly show. The music makes me well up lol. Love it and the era it represents.
Yeah I remember that. I had just turned 2. The Braves and Yankees were my favorite teams. Back then you could have two because they didn’t have the abomination of interleage play, so you were good as long as they didn’t meet in October. Yeah…Gibson was amazing, but Gossage looked like a fool.
Just unreal, when baseball was likable. Wish we can turn the clock back. Mel Allen was born to do this show. His voice, tone and likability just shined through. The ending song was so inspirational and moving. What a sham the sport has become.
Love TWIB. Always loved this and watching the 'Baseball Bunch' to help to satisfy my baseball needs. It was cool to see my favorite players and teams. Yeah, I just want to see a simple shows like this with highlights and no talking heads.
10:17 The Phillies would of had Julio Franco, Ryne Sandberg and Lonnie Smith leading off for them ... but no... let's trade em. The biggest miracle was the 1983 wheeze kids The Phils kept: Joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Tony P.
I'm going to predict that if the Cardinals get John Tudor in the off season they'll get to the World Series in 1985. They'll have all the pitching they'll need. For the Lineup they should get Jack Clark and have him play 1b. I bet that'll work. I'm going to make a bold prediction the Chicago Cubs are going to make it to the playoffs in 84.
@CarlosReyes-qe2iq No different than Rhys Hopkins who struck out over 200x. Also, look at Kingman's 1979 stats. If he had stayed in Chicago, he woulda piled up Schmidt type numbers.
@CarlosReyes-qe2iq You can't say that about Kingman's 3 year stint at Wrigley. 1979: 97r 153h 48hr 115rbi .288avg Of course, you are proven correct when he returns to Mets in 1981.... but! Dave goes to Oakland where his stats are comparable to Schmidt, Gorman Thomas, etc.

Best baseball show ever produced. It jolted excitement, made you like baseball, and the music was great.
Used to enjoy rain delays on televised games. They would play this week In baseball with the great Mel Allen

Great to see the Tigers start of their greatest season ever. 35-5. They led wire to wire and won the World Series that fall. Bless You Boys!
They were incredible
That team was one of the best I’ve ever seen
Nearly 40 years later, the Tampa Bay Rays are trying to do the same thing as the '84 Tigers with their unprecedented 27-6 start.

Loved watching this on Saturday afternoons, then playing whiffle ball all day.
Aww yeah, great times indeed.
grew up with voice as a kid i always tried to watch this week in baseball on saturdays
Seeing Fred Lynn as an Angel twice in the ending highlights
Loved this show! Daddy and I watched it every week, great memories!
I couldn't wait to watch this show living in the south east watching ATL Braves this was the rain delay show ❤

I agree. A watered-down version of yesteryear.
OPS stat?
Launch angles??
Bat speed???
Really????
Your page is awesome! 1980's Sports Home is pretty cool, too! Thanks guys!

"How about that?!!"...Mel Allen was the best!!
I remember watching this when I was 18 years old back 1984😄
TWIB & MEL ❤❤❤❤❤
WHEN BASEBALL WAS MAJOR MAJOR LEAGUERS
Before the days of juicers. When baseball was still a great game
8:41 He is now 15th all time in saves
I Miss Mel Allen's voice.
This is my childhood.
Not today's computer generated game
When baseball was a gut sport.

The real Tommy John!
Go Tony Go❤
The Montreal Expos jerseys 🔥

The Good Old Days
11:30 Go Tony Go!
I feel bad for Pete Rose...gambling everywhere but baseballs best hitter not inducted in the HOF
RIP Pete Rose. He's in the real HOF now.....
4:50 Dave Kingman got no respect. He hit 35 in his last year (1986) and no MLB team would sign him? Well, he's certainly in my HOF.
One dimensional player, if there ever was in baseball history.
@CarlosReyes-qe2iq No different than Rhys Hopkins who struck out over 200x.

You really could hear the crack of his bat.

At least he wasn't a juicer
pete rose r.i.p.
0:22 Pete Rose on phone with his bookie
