It was my brothers and I when we were younger. Snagged it out of the parents' VHS collection and made it digital. I didn't want it to not be shared with the world.
+Michael Ingram That's because they're too busy re-airing "Major League II", "Mr. Baseball", "For The Love Of The Game, "Summer Catch" and wall-to-wall reruns of "Intentional Talk" and "High Heat".
My brother in Law played Luis. He passed away yesterday but will always be remembered forever. Thanks for the video upload. I was able to share with his daughters.
Every weekend the two syndicated baseball shows I'd watch were this and TWIB. And this was pertinent for me, because the years it aired (82-86) spanned my 9-13 baseball years. Admittedly, I didn't watch the last season (I don't even remember Kool-aid man being on the show), but I used the tips during my little league years.
I also watched this show right before being driven out by my parents to, "go out and get some sun!" I loved this show. And it actually taught a 'bunch' (pun intended) of great fundamentals. I wish there was a show like this today, from today's big leaguers, to teach kids how to play the game right.
I used to watch this on Sunday mornings I think it was, or maybe Saturdays, can't remember. I wish they would bring this back on tv with today's baseball players. My son is 7 and in little league and was intently watching this, he liked the wall ball game alot.
I remember "The Baseball Bunch" on television (1982-86). MLB Network should air the reruns during the offseason, along with "Home Run Derby", instead of incessant baseball-themed movies. Loved Johnny Bench as host. RIP, Gary Carter.
All of these kids were the coolest to me when I was younger. So glad you were able to share the memories with his daughters. May he rest in peace. My condolences.
Growing up in the early 90's we didn't have a lot of money, but baseball was life as they say. My dad saved up some money and bought this video set 2nd hand from a video rental store, and boy did I wear these videos out. It really did improve my game drastically as a kid. Brings back so many good memories. We actually watched Ozzie's retirement game, and i couldn't put together why he looked so different from the video lol. Thanks for uploading.
My 10 year old son was the main reason I uploaded it. None of his travel baseball buddies have VCR's to watch VHS so I converted it and uploaded it hoping to share it with millions.
Watched Chet Lemon bring out a mattress and had someone toss the ball while he dove on mattress to catch it...Me and my pops practiced this routine every weekend I was visiting him..GREAT MEMORIES AND TIMES
Ozzie Smith: "The first rule to playing shortstop is, don't play baseball in tight denim jeans. Kid, buy yourself some damn baseball pants or your testicles are never gonna drop."
This was the year baseball went from our amazing pastime to filled with roids. We'll always have great memories. I watched this VHS 50+ times when I was 8.
Stacy is about 15 here, I remember she didn't like any of us talking about the show. I never really watched the show, but I know Stacy (AKA Michelle). She also had a small part in "Just one of the guys" I spoke to her maybe 10 years ago...She was doing well.
Ozzie Smith has a point about using 2 hands because one handed plays do lead to fielding and throwing errors sometimes and it’s something you don’t want to commit in games. This needs to be revived with modern stars like Bryce Harper, Hunter Pence, etc. Hunter Pence would make a great guest on if it happened.
Gary Carter complained that Chicken hit an inside the park home run. Not only was it not a home run, but it wasn't even a base hit. Chicken reached first base due to the errant throw to first. Therefore Chicken's at bat would have been scored as "reached base on error." Obviously the run was unearned. A player can only be credited with an inside the park home run if there are no errors on the play. There were at least three errors on the play that I am commenting about.
Do you imagine today's players helping kids to improved their skills?.. instead of watching them get suspended for illegal substances.. that would be great!
i rememeber watching this then going out to play bcus I was freaking the wizard I got a dent the size of a golfball on my head was great didnt feel a thing then i went over to second base.
MLB Network should re-air this show along with "This Week In Baseball" and "Home Run Derby". It is a CRIME that they don't air these shows considering they are the MLB Network. I get that this is 2015 and they want to talk about what's happening now. That's fine. But I don't see why they can't put these classic shows on during the weekend or down times instead of showing another crappy baseball movie like "Summer Catch", "Mr. Baseball" or "Major League II". If you're going to show a baseball movie, at least put on one that doesn't suck.
Mr. Baseball a "crappy" baseball movie? C'mon man! Selleck's sweet lefty stroke, Frank Thomas as the rookie. Hell, Pedro Serrano in a Dragons uniform, for God's sake. You bite your tongue!
Probably because it was originally recorded on video tape and not film, and wouldn't be worth it to recover or remaster, or it may not even be possible. But who knows.
Can't be 1986. By then, Carter was with the Mets and Nettles with the Padres. Since this shows Nettles with the Yankees and Carter with the Expos this would date the video as 1982 or 1983.
Correct. This video was re-released in 1986 as part of a 3-video VHS 📼 pack. And this fielding footage is from previous years of The Baseball Bunch. A flashback...if you will...
Major League Baseball is too damn corporate now. This is what baseball is all about. Sad that things have changed so much in less than 30 years for the worse.
You know that this was a television show with commercials, marketed by MLB, a corporation, in the 80s, right? It's not like Johnny Bench was sitting around on a field with a bunch of kids for the hell of it and someone snuck a camera in.
Free agency meant the players would get a fair share of revenue and market value to play where they wanted. Much fairer system. It may be corporate but it's still sport and people from all walks of life are fans.
I’m commenting here in the year 2022. Who do you think would be a good host/hosts now? We really don’t know the personalities of modern day baseball players. They seem to only do Subway commercials. :) Which is terrible for the human body lol
According to Wikipedia there were three different VHS compilations released in 1986. Hitting, pitching, and fielding were the three topics covered in these VHS releases. This particular episode would have been the "Fielding" video release. Graig Nettles' segment was likely produced no later than 1983 as he left the Yankees after the 1983 season. Also Gary Carter left the Expos after the 1984 season, so his segment was likely produced no later than 1984.
The back of the wizard's jersey said "O Smith 1". By 1986 former teammate Lonnie (L Smith) was playing for Kansas City, and the "O" was dropped from the wizard's uni.
Wow---being a kid and a baseball fan in the 1980s was so great
Yes it was
It was my brothers and I when we were younger. Snagged it out of the parents' VHS collection and made it digital. I didn't want it to not be shared with the world.
Thank you. Brings back memories.
Damn, they really put a lot of work into this program. How did I miss this show growing up - I loved TWiB and Mel Allen's "TWiB Notes"
This was such a great show - there is a market for this kind of show today, wish it would come back!
I know right! I would love that so much!
+Michael Ingram That's because they're too busy re-airing "Major League II", "Mr. Baseball", "For The Love Of The Game, "Summer Catch" and wall-to-wall reruns of "Intentional Talk" and "High Heat".
The parents of the kids would want too much money.
My brother in Law played Luis. He passed away yesterday but will always be remembered forever. Thanks for the video upload. I was able to share with his daughters.
Jeffanthony Garcia yeah... He was my nino
Luis from the baseball bunch passed away? My condolences.
What happen he was young
I used to love the Baseball Bunch.

I used to watch this every week.
I remember "The Baseball Bunch" on television (1982-86). MLB Network should air the reruns during the offseason, along with
"Home Run Derby", instead of incessant baseball-themed movies.
Loved Johnny Bench as host. RIP, Gary Carter.

Whoever played the chicken did a phenomenal job.
I remember watching these as a kid. Thank you so much for posting it!

we need mlb network to reair these shows
Thank you. Brings back good memories 🙏
Brings back the memories, thanks for the upload!!
Current players need to watch these. The fundamentals have never been worse & were on full display the other night in the 5th inning
Absolutely brings me back to when I used to rent these videos from the library as a child in the early to mid 90's🤗
thanks for posting this
i watched it in the 80's & i loved the show too !
My Childhood dream of being on this show...
Great Program and Cult like following.
Man, as a Phillies fan I disliked him as a player but he was oh so fun to watch. BEST EVER.
Talking about Ozzie Smith.
I remember I couldnt wait for the weekend to watch this show and This week in baseball.
Ozzie Smith: "The first rule to playing shortstop is, don't play baseball in tight denim jeans. Kid, buy yourself some damn baseball pants or your testicles are never gonna drop."
Ozzie Smith then Gary Carter are in The National League All Star Game since 1981.
Then the last one in 1988.
This was the year baseball went from our amazing pastime to filled with roids. We'll always have great memories. I watched this VHS 50+ times when I was 8.

Gary Carter and Tommy Lasorda R.I.P
They need to run them all!
I LOVED this show as a kid... man these were good times. Too bad pro athletes don't sell the game like this anymore.
Yeah. It was my brother's and my favorite to watch Saturday mornings. Thanks.
+J-Ro Rosiak Thanks for posting this! I'll be watching it on my way home from work tonight. :)

Thanks for the comments. Please share this video. Baseball is Life. Love Baseball. Love Life. @rosiakgraphics
Anyone that showed up to my little league team wearing jeans would ride the pine
Do you imagine today's players helping kids to improved their skills?.. instead of watching them get suspended for illegal substances.. that would be great!
The San Diego Chicken!!!!!
i rememeber watching this then going out to play bcus I was freaking the wizard I got a dent the size of a golfball on my head was great didnt feel a thing then i went over to second base.
Graig Nettles, he is a Yankee with close to 400 homers but not in the Hall.
MLB Network should re-air this show along with "This Week In Baseball" and "Home Run Derby". It is a CRIME that they don't air these shows considering they are the MLB Network. +Rob Gordon I agree. At the very least, they could show these episodes during the offseason.
Mr. Baseball a "crappy" baseball movie? C'mon man! Selleck's sweet lefty stroke, Frank Thomas as the rookie. Hell, Pedro Serrano in a Dragons uniform, for God's sake. You bite your tongue!
I agree with you 100% !..... NO MOrE MOVIES ON THE MLB NETWORK!!!
It's 2021, and they still haven't shown any of those shows.
I felt so sorry for those kids.
Probably because it was originally recorded on video tape and not film, and wouldn't be worth it to recover or remaster, or it may not even be possible. But who knows.

Holy Shit
19:40 - E.F. Hutton reference.
Decided to edit that out, finally.

Such a corny show but I watched it a lot because I was often home at the time.
The kids remind me of the mouseketeers
COOL
Wow! A rare error by Ripken. You didn't see many of those.
That girl is killing it at 1st and Nettles is a mean drunk.
where did you find this rare vhs on ebay?
That guy plays better in a chicken suit than I could in a proper uniform.

What LSD-tester picked the music for the Ozzie Smith montage? Totally synonymous with the HOF shortstop with worse numbers than Alan Trammell.
Huh?? Worse numbers? He had 13 gold gloves.
gary..gary..gary
They drank the Kool Aid
I always wondered if they kidnapped the kids or not.
Ozzie Smith, wow, along w/Jeter, the greatest shortstop ever!
37:34-37:42 lol
I doubt this was 1986
I think you're right, Carter was playing for the Mets in 86 when they won the world series.
According to Wikipedia there were three different VHS compilations released in 1986. Hitting, pitching, and fielding were the three topics covered in these VHS releases. This was shot in the early 80s and then re-released as a compilation in 1986. At the beginning you can hear Johnny talk about it and "flashback"...
This is a great video, but why does nostalgia have to equal cynical about the current players, commenters?
Heheheh, you also reproduced the "Do not reproduce" FBI warning.
LoL, I was going to say that I could imaging todays players help youngin's inject steriods and stuff.
Bad play...that rookie at 5:55 Will never make it
24:49 lol
