      Iceland - SF2 7th (borderline NQ)
      Sweden - SF1 11th

    Day #Ilostcount of convincing myself Latvia's a qualifier
    Slot 4 being statistically lucky has given me teeny tiny slice of hope 🥲 I checked, and excluding last year, all songs in that slot in 2019 and 2021 were televote qualifiers.
    Sudden Lights were placed between two songs that will have very extravagant stagings. Portugal is bringing a song with a different theme and mood, Serbia talks about a similar thing, but is a bit more experimental. I think it still makes them stand out, and there is a market for songs that are more atmospheric with a low-key staging. However, all the other songs they could potentially be compared to - slower/more emotional/guitar-driven - all come later, so I hope they'll bring a performance captivating enough to make people think they were better than the rest 😅

    They should have kept the randomly selected running order. It was the Swede, and producer for many ESC finals, who introduced this. His name is Christer Bjorkmann - Have you noticed that Sweden has never had one of the unfavorably spots? - The same person, introduced the new voting system, with juries. This system has been practised in Sweden already…. Why on earth, should a few people, over rule peoples opinion? I.e, if it wasn’t for Bjorkmann, Norway would have won the ESC in 2019, by a land slide.

    • @EmoBearRights
      @EmoBearRights Год назад

      Or it could because random running orders made a mess of things in Baku with a glut of ballads at the start that helped neither those artists or the show. Also my fav song of 2011 was Love in Rewind which ended up in early slots for both it's semi and the final which did not do it any favours whatsoever. I hear you but running orders are never going to be entirely fair however you determine them.

    I'm thinking everyone's overthinking Croatia's chances... in fact I'd daresay their performance will put off more people than that it will draw ppl in, hence decreasing the amount of votes they might get. Hate to even think of it 🥺By the way, Serbia has been nr 3 in the semi final 3 out of 5 times for the last 5 years. The other two, we've been nr 9 both times.
    Not very fair, tbh.
    BUT, what gives me hope, is that Samo Mi Se Spava is mainly a televote pleaser, so if we can't qualify that way, where the juries can only burry us even further, then this is just not our year.

    My result after the running order reveal.
    What I got correct, semi 1:
    7 out of 15 slots right (3,4,7,8,11,14,15).
    Croatia being as late as possible.✅
    Finland closing. ✅
    Sweden getting 11th.✅
    What I got wrong, semi 1:
    I thought Norway would not be opening. 8/15 slots. ☹
    (Semi 2 predictions went badly so let's skip that).

    I've been looking at the numbers, and 2nd and 3rd place in the lineup have actually the same statistic. Since the semi-finals were introduced in 2004, 11 songs have qualified from both 2nd and 3rd slot each. So statistically speaking, 2nd and 3rd slot has the same success rate as far as qualifing goes.
    What's interesting then, is why it's only the 2nd slot that has the reputation of being the "dead slot".

    It seems unfair that the size and complexity of staging puts pressure on the show producers to place songs in favourable places near a break or at the end.Being 2nd in the running order is the kiss of death so all you need to do is bring a big prop and there's no way the producers can put you there.Surely all entries should have the same time to set up and vacate the stage and if you can't get ready in the same time as everyone else it's too bad

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  Год назад +1

      Well the prop needs to be so big that it can’t easily be taken off in 30 seconds. So Yea it’s posible. But keep in mind that your idea needs to be submitted and okayed by the producers. I would argue this running order might actually be bad news for Finland because it directly helps countries that could hurt Finlands chances of winning in the grand final i.e. jury-friendly songs like Netherlands, Switzerland and to some extent Latvia. Netherlands especially is a big winner with this running order.
    The running order in this semi doesn't matter for the Nordics chances of qualifying. They would've qualified from any position. However for Finland to win Eurovision they will need to do well enough with the juries to be within striking distance of beating Sweden because the televote won't be a problem for Finland. That's Finlands win condition and that's less likely to happen with countries like Netherlands and Switzerland in the mix. I could easily see several juries giving more points to Netherlands and Switzerland over Finland.The more jury-friendly songs like that in the grand final the more competition Finland will have for vital jury points.
    While I don't think the juries will bury Finland, I don't think it will be top 5 either. Cha Cha Cha did win the jury vote in UMK but it wasn't convincing and the competition for jury points will be tough. I predict Finland to be around where Ukraine was with the juries last year.
    And you said Finland might gain momentum after the semis which could cause the odds to change. Well, if Sweden gets a good draw in the grand final while Finland gets a bad one that would completely negate any advantage Finland had in the semi. Again, the running order in the semis doesn't matter for either Swedens or Finlands chances of qualifying but the running order in the final will be significant for their chances of winning.

    • @nian60
      @nian60 Год назад +2

      I suspected Finland would be put last in the semi to give casual people less time to decide to vote for him. The organisers will most likely put him in slot 1 if he draws the first half, in order to put him as far away from Loreen as possible. Then he gets less televotes and Loreen wins. Norway first and Finland last in the semi was to minimise their votes, and maximise Loreen's votes. Make no mistake, the producers will do everything they can to trip Käärijä up. 😞

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  Год назад

      I see the point that you are trying to make, but i think that SWI and NED going through also affects Loreen as well. If Loreen is winning a jury vote and then NED and SWI are next and then FIN are lower down, then year those buffer countries will affect him. but the reverse can happen too

    I know Norway will qualify from any spot, but I'm super worried that them being so early means that it won't get as many points as they could, and this will be used as an excuse by producers to put them early in the final (in whichever half) as well. Televoters are extremely biased when it comes to running order and if Norway underperforms after being so much earlier than Sweden and Finland, the producers may not consider it as strong of a favorite as it really is. Of course there's also the argument that opening the show means the producers will almost be forced to put them later in whichever half, but that hasnt always been the case. I just pray they draw 2nd half in the final, they deserve it after both the other major favorites this semi (Sweden and Finland) drew 2nd half here.

      tbh as long as you can get the props off the stage in 25 seconds, then it's ok. I think Malta will have some, but i think they can just put them on wheels and wheel them off quickly. I think Luke will use the dancers like he did in PZE, so that takes no time to set up

      I heard that Serbia has big budget for their ESC stag. But we'll see.

      I’m bummed about Serbia’s position:/ same as last year, but hey, we made it work! He’ll use the same four dancers, they’ll rework the choreography and he’ll(supposedly) upgrade the staging. He said he had big plans and that the broadcaster agreed with everything he asked for …

      @@mnjk1558 Yes, they do. Konstrakta basically didn’t use any money last year. She just needed towels, basin, actors who were her friends and not real dancers. She did what she always does anyways so RTS said they are really standing behind Luke and will support his team.

      RTS has big budget, don’t worry for the staging. Konstrakta made it with minimum funds, because it was art.
