When Blur, Oasis, Pulp, and even Radiohead seemed to have stopped writing new albums, somehow, miraculously, Suede is the first men standing and also the last men standing of Britpop that has written more albums than anyone else in the past decade. What a blessing to be a Suede fan.
@@sachertorte1000 I guess you might have skimmed over what I wrote. I said those bands **seemed** to have stopped, and yes there had been new albums, but that's also why I added that Suede had more albums in the *past decade* than the others. In this period, Suede had 4, Blur had 1, and Radiohead had 2. It's been 6 years since A Moon Shaped Pool, and no, The Smile doesn't count. Yes, Pulp was started before Suede, but the word Britpop was not coined until Suede, and Pulp changed its direction quite a bit between Separations and His N Hers. This isn't even intended to be a debate about which band is better - they are all great! I love all of them! There's no need to compete. I was saying that it's great to be a Suede fan because of the wealth of new content; I was not saying that other bands suck or not.
Suede absolutely rock but on this note charlatans absolutely blow everyone away ! But the bigger point is they all make great music and I’m sure we listen to all of them if not now then at some point you did. Long live great music.
In October (2022), it will be a year since my mother passed away and 'She Still Leads Me On' truly hits home. I find myself singing along to it with tears in my eyes and a crack in my voice. In a way, I shouldn't expect anything less from Brett's lyrics or Suede's music. This is one of the only bands that can sing about life's tragedies and transform them into uplifting anthems.
I saw suede for the first time yesterday at the Eden sessions oh my god just blew me away and I just can't stop playing this song . I'm the same I lost my mum to cancer last year all very sudden and this so reminds me of my mum ..
Stop the press - this is beyond beautiful. Suede painted the musical backdrop from my school days, through art school, through working life, then as I encountered fatherhood it’s penned to the majesty of Night Thoughts and The Blue Hour and now this. It hits the soul that just as my mother is very ill, Suede send this heavenly song like a blessing and just after I witnessed them play the most scintillating gig in Berlin. All I can say is “Thank God for Suede”.
I was 21 when my mum died, almost at the same age Brett lost his mother. Suede's Dog Man Star helped me to get through this. Love this new song. Once again: Well done, Suede!!!❤
As an 18 year old recently discovering suede they’ve quickly become my favourite band and so I feel very blessed that I can hear brand new music from them as a fan
I'm 40 and been listening to Suede since I was a teenager, around the Dog Man Star and Coming Up days I also had the chance to watch them live three times and each one was so special I truly love this band and excited like a teenager with every new release I wish the band and the fans many more years of passionate music :)
Yes James and New Order are the only two other bands from that era who seem to have stood the test of time and continue to be excellent alongside suede
This is PHENOMENAL!!! As a 21 year old in 1993, I saw Suede in Liverpool, Manchester (backstage after gig too briefly) and at Portsmouth Pyramids where I met them outside when they arrived in the afternoon. I was at the front that night, I'm on the video of the gig lol. Striped shirt, glasses. This song makes me feel exactly as I did then!!! I'm 50.
I lost my wonderful mother Pearl just over 8 months ago on 6 September 2021 so this really means a lot. Thank you Brett for writing a beautiful song for your late mother that anyone that has lost a parent can relate to.
I lost my mum to cancer in 2006, after Suede had split the first time. Other bands, mainly REM, got me through. I was lucky enough to know Suede’s manager from pre-Coming Up and some of the guys themselves, mostly Simon who is just a lovely bloke. I avoided listening to Suede for years as hanging out with them backstage and raiding the office for memorabilia were among the best days of my life. But I’m ready to embrace them again and this song, although tinged with sadness (dad also died in December) is an absolute belter!
Suede created this song which really brought us emotions, when Brett sang the verse "and I love her..." repeatedly up to 4x with different sweet messages plus the melodic sound of the guitar behind. Brett so powerful and emotional voice and was greeted by a very good chorus, thank you Suede for returning to creating music again ❤💯
Ok so back in the day suede was not really my thing…..although massive popular with my friends back then…..I was more of a ‘hardcore’….boom boom music, but as I am now an older fella…..I heard it on BBC RADIO 6 music Steve lemack….a ledge DJ…..and I have to say……bloody love this tune!……just makes me goose pimple…..👍🏻😜 fair play to Suede!I love it!!!
This sky has many stars, not one is you. You was untrue. It takes a spark between me and you, and her. I think this universe is big enough to swallow all our lies. But in our little truths, we compromise .
If you have lost your mother (as I have) then you'll know this is such a wonderful eulogy set to a festival anthem and avoiding mawkishness. I have always loved Suede but this is next level
I’m 54 and been listening to Suede since they came on the music scene. One of the best bands out there. Certainly echoes of Joy Division (one of my favourite bands) on this one. Can’t wait to hear the new album in September
Absolutely right with the Joy Division bit, vocal delivery at times is super Ian Curtis in the best way possible. I'm a mega fan of Suede as well, just saw them live for the first time last week and it was such an incredible performance that brought me to revisit and honestly, this song has to be a contender for one of their best. Just so emotionally raw and heavy
Thank you suede for such a breathtaking song I lost my dear mum to covid jan2021 she was my world I'm lost without her but I know her presence and love still lead me on...she wouldn't want me to give up no matter how much I desperately want to 💔💖
For all the 18/19 year old youngsters who are newfound Suede fans, checkout the story of lead guitarist Richard Oakes joining Suede at their peak after their first 2 albums were released. It’s amazing - almost unimaginable! From Wikipedia: The first gig Oakes attended was one of Suede's at the Poole Arts Centre in May 1993. Upon hearing that guitarist Bernard Butler had left the band and that the band were auditioning for a replacement, he recorded versions of Suede songs and some of his own material on a 4 track recorder, which he sent to the band's fanclub along with a note that read "Take me or leave me." …At the age of 17, and after beating approximately five hundred candidates, Oakes officially joined Suede on 17 September 1994 (exactly 2 weeks before his 18th birthday).

Thanks to a recent MOJO magazine free CD - the Best of 2022 - I became aware of this song. It is fantastic! I lost my beloved mother on 14 Cecember 2009 and I wish I could have written such a tribute to her as Brett Anderson has done for his mother. Brings me close to tears with every single listen. Expresses so beautifully the love and loss of a wonderful, magical and much missed Mum. Like mine ❤.
I'm the biggest fan of Suede, was obsessed with them from the Animal nitrate period onwards. As a 15 year old I traveled 12 hours across my country only to see them live. I actually met them backstage but was too starstruck to speak with them. No other group has the same energy, amazing lyrics and everyone I have met who knows them personally say they are so kind and down to earth. Brett Anderson, never change. You rock, literally.
I feel like I'm back in the 90s and I'm only 16, I love this song and I am so excited for the album. Coming Up is one of my favourite albums of all time (as well as Permission To Land and One Way Ticket To Hell by The Darkness).
Never really listened to Suede before and I don't regret that because this album is the best of what I've heard by far. Bloody brilliant that it's happened at their ages too, proves you don't have to lose your edge
I hope this song triggers other bands of this era to release new albums…. Suede are one of the best around still …… proper music by skilled musicians and such a giant vocal …. Welcome back and long this may continue because if we ever have another lockdown this will cheer me up and countless more 🙏 are you per…suaded ! Go on buy the album
This is proof that sometimes bands aren't finished after the youthful fire goes out. This is one of my favourite Suede songs.
When Blur, Oasis, Pulp, and even Radiohead seemed to have stopped writing new albums, somehow, miraculously, Suede is the first men standing and also the last men standing of Britpop that has written more albums than anyone else in the past decade. What a blessing to be a Suede fan.
agree!
Pulp predate Suede. And they split up. As did Oasis. Blur still releases albums, as does Radiohead.

I cannot hear that voice without instantly becoming 16-years-old in 1992 again. Astonishing how music can do that.

I was in that situation in 2013 when they released Bloodsports, so I know the feeling and hope you get to see them live touring with the new album ✨

Suede is one of those rare bands whose power never diminishes. Just as brilliant as when they first emerged.

It's a very energetic song, and Brett's vocals were great. Excellent choice for a single!
I'm 15 and just discovered Suede's music , I think I'm so lucky that I do not have to wait a long time to have a chance listening their new song.😍

Sometimes just
when I think of other things
Other things
Think about
I still ....
When I think of all the things my mother said
When I think of all the feelings I hid from her
Oh, in many, many ways, I’m still a young boy
Waiting patiently for 4 p.m
But I loved her
With my last breath
And I loved her with a love that was strong as death
And I loved her
When she was unkind
And I loved her, I loved her, a dangerous mind
Sometimes when I look up at the sky
She leads me on
She still leads me on
Sometimes when I stare up at the ceiling
She leads me on
She still leads me on
I wonder if her touch will ever fade
Is she waiting in the garden for us to play
Yes, in many, many ways I’m still a young boy
With all those questions in my petrol-blue eye
But I loved her
With my last breath
And I loved her with a love that was strong as death
And I loved her
When she was unkind
And I loved her, I loved her, with a dangerous mind
Sometimes when I look up at the sky
She leads me on
She still leads me on
Sometimes when I just feel like screaming
She leads me on
She still leads me on
Sometimes when I don't know what is mine
She leads me on
She still leads me on
Sometimes when I can’t control my feelings
She leads me on
She still leads me on
Sometimes when I look up at the sky
She leads me on
She still leads me on
