- Since im waiting on the parts to finish the Retrospec widebody kit on my 92 3000gt I figured now would be a good time to upgrade all the exterior lights on the New VR4 over to LED. How to upgrade your lights on a budget. Everything came from Amazon for under $100 and it makes a huge difference at night.
9005 and 9006 are the high and low beam

If the cheap Amazon lights dont hold up I may have to upgrade to Auxbeam or something. Авто/Мото
Thanks for posting the video, I'm looking to do the same thing on my 93 and this will definitely help me out
Nice job looks great 👍 keep the vids coming
Thank you 😊 Between the widebody VR4 and the new VR4 I have alot of projects rolling in.
For future reference for those watching, you can get an LED relay that simply plugs into the factory relay box of MOST cars. Eliminating the need to solder overall and go through this slight hassle. On these cars the turn signal relay is located on the drivers' side foot well next to the door jam. These LED relays are also backwards compatible meaning they work with OEM bulbs. Again, making life that much more simpler lol. Hope this helps.
So the resistors go on the front blinkers too? Also you wouldn't know how to change blinkers covers from orange to clear? I've seen some Gen 1 with clear plastic covers but can't find them anywhere online.
The resistors go on each of the led lights that flash with the turn signals. It should be 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. So 4 resistors total. And they will be wired in between the ground wire and the 12v wire that flashes on and off when the signal is on. It just keeps the led lights from flashing really fast.
As for the clear 1st gen front markers 3SX.com sold they many years ago but appear to be out of stock now. They occasionally pop up on ebay and Facebook for sale as used.
Hey looking at doing this to my VR4. Possible to get a better guide as to how many of what size bulbs to buy? figured it would be easier to ask someone that’s done it rather than taking everything apart myself. appreciate it
2x 9005
2x 9006
For the headlights
8x 1157
For Front and rear turn signals and brake lights
2x 1156
For reverse
Make another video at night time so we can see how bright it is, need to upgrade the lights on mine.
Especially after we restored the foggy and faded headlights mixed with the new LEDs the are just amazing at night. You could barely see anything at night driving the car back from Texas.
@@illusiveinu I might have to try the leds, can't see anything at night lol
Some guy behind you:
MY EYES!!!!
😈😈😈
Just curious, why only resistors on the back turn signals and not the front switchbacks/turn signals?
It has resistors on the front turn signals as well. I may not have put that into the video
Great job. Own 91 VR-4. Would u please edit your description and add amazon links for all the lights and resistors? Thank you so much
links have been added.
@@illusiveinu Thank you, you're super fast :)
What rating resister did you add to the back turn signals .?

What kind / company are smaller leds??
Smaller LEDs for the front or the back of the car?
Everything but the head lights “ I got flip up’s “ lol
Did the reverse 1156 LEDs work?
The switch backs that was reversed or the bulbs for the reverse light.
The backwards switchbacks did work for what I wanted. Lights up amber but switches to white as a reverse.
As for the reverse bulb it's a 1156.
Hope this helped
@@illusiveinu my bad 1156*. I remember trying some Sylvania 1156 reverse LEDs but they didn't work. Something about the polarity being switched. Going to try again with different bulbs
What kinda resistor for the tail light?

I got them from amazon.

@@illusiveinuthanks man! Just did this to my 3k and it's awesome! Appreciate the link worked like a charm
@@illusiveinuonly question, when I did the front side turn signals they are still flashing fast... do I also wire in the same resistor?
@carleifler8125 did you put a resistor on each of the turn signals that you upgraded to led? If the one in question dosent have a resistor it will need one yes.
@@illusiveinu hey so I'm trying wire the front resistor but it doesn't seem to work... got any ideas? There's three wires in the front turn signal just like the rear... I'm kinda perplexed as to what I'm doing wrong
WIsh it was this easy on the Gen 1
I did upgrade the headlights on the first gen to LED after shooting this video. It was kinda tricky but was able to get them in.
I have a photo of the upgraded headlights in my Instagram
