Shidqi akram thanks! This is a great comment and chance to explain the channel a little. I love FOOD but Japan is a lot more than that. The video in Osaka about a highway through a building is almost at 1M views -- the NARA STREET FOOD episode before that was released later and has fewer -- so everyone seems to like other stuff too :) I'll always try to add FOOD in episodes when relevant because it's an important part of Japan, but it shouldn't always be the "main dish" of this series. The reasons behind why it's so good can be explained with the culture and that's in every episode of OIJ. A lot of anime and manga fans are calling for more Akihabara stuff too! A live stream on my B channel (OIJ GO) from Akiba is the biggest breakthrough on that new channel. But man, are these food episodes delicious to do!!! Thanks for writing in and sharing your interest in the show. I love the feedback and appreciate your time to express it. -John
ONLY in JAPAN wow I never though about you going to akihabara. I mean, it would be cool but I really feel like it's not the same kind of thing as these videos. Sure akiba is cool but it's a lot of stuff that even other Japanese people shun
4:17 I know exactly what you're talking about John. My eyes were opened one night when I ate at Santouka Ramen inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights, IL. I had the spicy miso ramen with slices of pork, a hard boiled brown egg, and a bowl of steamed white rice with pork shavings / chopped leeks on top. My mind was utterly blown. I kid you not, from that night forward, I told myself if I ever had a last meal, I would want it to be a bowl of spicy miso ramen from Santouka Ramen. People just won't understand until that moment when they finally have a bowl of life-changingly delicious ramen!
psygn0sis thanks! I really wanted to get these out while doing the trip but my laptop was just too slow to do it and I was exhausted by the time I got into my tent or hotel. Haha! The live streams filled in the gaps. the great thing with the hitchhiking trip is that I have lots of content to fill in future episodes so I think the series will be richer in details as a result of it. Really nice to hear from you again! -John
I enjoy your videos the best part of your videos is that you tell us what is brought to as it comes. most of the other bloggers order their food then load it down with spices before letting us know what it tastes like, they make it how they like it.
John great videos! My wife and I watch your videos after a long tough day and it makes us feel at ease. We always look forward to your videos, keep on doing what you are doing!
Every time a new video of yours pops up on my suggested list my day perks up a little bit, and the style you deliver is subtle yet fulfilling. Thank you for enabling my Japanese aspirations.
I am Rahul Marathe from Pune. I met mostly someone from Mumbai, pune from our state is interested in Japanese culture and your marathi sir name. II guessed Pune ... it was true :).
I really appreciate you Only in Japan! You always have such a amazing up beat attitude about you in your videos. Thank you for all that you do and the sacrifice you make by eating all that amazing food! We all love watching you eat!!!
Really love your video, mate. its good to know Japan, like their culture, food etc. Please continue to make more video again. I always wanted to go Japan and get to know Japan better.
Mr Turbo He dedicated another channel to the live streams. This channel is now solely for edited videos. Initially, he was experimenting and trying to promote the other channel which was why he did some live streams here. I'm a fan of both formats. :)
Episodes of Only in Japan is where John started his channel. So these are his original style videos. This vlogs & streams are newer editions, most of which were done while on his road trip.
What if I told you that he made this (and the next however many) episodes while he was hitchhiking... while he was doing those live streams you seem to hate so much.
It doesn't matter if he did these edited videos while hitchhiking.... these are more polished and more interesting to watch to a lot more people. He was doing these long before trying the live streaming
Fukuoka is indeed Japan's Ramen capital and it's a great cultural asset that they preserved the Yatais (movable street restaurants). We also recommend Udon, which is also highly popular in Fukuoka and northern Kyushu :)
I visited Unari just yesterday for my family trip to Fukuoka and it didn't disappoint. Sat at the same table as you did in the video. Thanks for the recommendations.
Archavia Productions he really should be on it! His videos are always so professional and he is great at being concise. I always am hungry after watching a video from him
I would normally say no to those stupid videos of you tubers I don't even know, but for this situation, I would love for him to get more love, so being on Rewind might seem like a good idea.
Ramen everywhere you turn! That would make me giddy with glee I don't think I'd ever want to leave lol! Great film and wonderful to have a brief return of the orange jacket!
I love this show,& the presenter is a really good person, always smiling, loves what he does and entertains with all these eye opening views on life in Japan.
I love how you've been incorporating more of what I assume to be footage of when you're vlogging into your typical video format! Makes the show so much more interesting (: Keep it up!
Gotta agree with you that, when you have a great ramen, you can't go back to the good ramen anymore. Like that how you make that comparison and review, good job keep it up! I am visiting Fukuoka soon and this video is definitely helpful.
Love tonkotsu ramen, and love the Yatai stands. Sadly there's only 50% of them left compared to 6-7 years ago. Great video aaaaaaaas always John. ^^ Cheers, Thomas
SUPERGENKI JAPAN thanks Thomas! Always happy when you write in! How was the service and taste 6-7 years ago? It is sad that they may not be around much longer but there are enough yatai dotting the surrounding Fukuoka streets. I didn't film it but I actually met a young guy (30s) in Nakasu who started his own push-cart yatai in the early Showa era style. I may go back and make an episode on him because I really love yatai, the community it brings in and it's a nice chance to document them while I can.
My pleasure John, you always produce fantastic videos. Well, IMO, 6-7 years ago, quality was better, as most customers were local Japanese who expected a certain quality/taste. It seems to me, that now, the yatais are merely tourist attractions - the local customers are more or less gone, and now the customers are mostly chinese, korean or western tourists, who has no - or very little idea - of what Hakata Ramen and food in general should taste like = quality has gone down. Me too, love going to yatai. I like the Yatai Mura in Kagoshima and Naha - atmosphere and food is somehow more genuine, what Hakata yatais used to be like. I hope you do an episode on that yatai guy, i'd love to see that. Have a good one John ^^ Thomas
Great video mate. I'm in here Fukuoka atm with my family vising my bro's family who been living in here since just few month ago which means they haven't checked out every single sightseeing and must-see places yet. They are still bit unfamiliar with the city lol This video was so informative mate. Thanks very much. Actually I watch your other videos pretty often indeed. Pls keep it up mate! I'm from Mongolia btw :)
Great video again John. When your videos come I feel a sigh of relief thinking not all is lost. In an era where every idiot is photo shopping their thumbnails and engaging in dumbing down the world by click baits, you are like a breath of fresh air.
I "lived" in Fukuoka as part of a study abroad program for six months. I stayed in Nishijin (a hop, skip and a jump away from Hakata and Tenjin with the trains, really) and the food in this part of Japan is AMAZING. I visited Tokyo a couple of times, but the ramen and udon here is just much better. If you're ever in Fukuoka, there's the usual tourist spots and things like Fukuoka Tower (which is next to a really nice museum no one talks about for some reason), Canal City mall and Hakata Station (with a Pokecenter!), but the small Nishijin walkway of shops and cafes is really nice. Small, yeah, but some of the best food I've ever eaten hidden between pachinko parlors, American fast food shops and carts selling fresh veggies and fruits. There's even a small donut shop that sells animal face donuts!
love what you said about not being able to go back. once youve eaten such perfected versions of any kind of food, its so hard to palate anything less than that. your tastes have refined and to settle for a lesser quality is difficult to say the least.
I liked your less planned out videos while you were hitchhiking, but I gotta say these scripted and formatted videos are a nice return. Can't wait for more awesome content from you John!
love your vids, i must meet you soon, i watched your videos for years, and then when school finished i just stopped for some reason. happy i found you again
I will be heading back to Fukuoka this summer to grab myself a bowl of Tonkotsu ramen! Seriously, I have had ramen elsewhere in Japan but nothing beats that of the ramen you find in Fukuoka. T_T You are right about the part where "ÿou can't go back once you had great ramen". It is incredible!
I really want to go to japan. It is a place that I have really wnated to go for a long time, and the Food is to DIE for. Thank you for sharing these videos with me.
Note to self: watch these videos during or just after dinner... i am so hungry now!!! great video John! one question, have you ever considered an culinary episode on how to make a half boiled egg?
Sir Orange jacket returns! This evening I had a Bowl in NYC...Not quite as good as yours though... but satisfying. Your shows never Disappoint..... Thanks for ALL you do John.
Hello Mr. John, I'am your subscriber since 2016 and i love your content about japanese food, i hope you will gain more subscriber and make another great content about Japan.
this might be a stupid question so I am sorry in advance but why is the turn over so short? 3 minutes to eat ramen and leave, do customers not take time and savoir every bite?

Hi John, I'm now in Fukuoka and tried all the ramen shops that you introduced but the 280 yen ramen shop now the price is 320 yen. Thanks a lot.... You have done a great job.
I think you should make more food videos dude. Everybody loves it
Shidqi akram thanks! This is a great comment and chance to explain the channel a little. I love FOOD but Japan is a lot more than that. It would be really cool to have a video about Japan's castles. I've always found them really interesting.
I've been working on one while traveling, seeing different castle. It might take another year to finish it :)
4:17 I know exactly what you're talking about John. My eyes were opened one night when I ate at Santouka Ramen inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights, IL. I like to torture myself in middle of the night by watching tasty food that would never make in my starving student stomach.

"There's good ramen, then there's GREAT ramen" sigh then there's my instant ramen coz im broke.
Well, if we lived in Japan, we could have some for about 300 yen.
I pimp up my instant ramen with a whisked egg into hot stock. Add some kimchi and American cheese slices. You’ve got a filling meal there!
😂😂 hahahahaha totally relatable 👌😂
sameee
Some say the best ramen is the one you have.
Your videos makes my day ❤

I haven't even watched it yet and I am already drooling.
I love the videos where you do food reviews. There's a lot to discover from Japan. :)
so happy you are doing more stuff like this rather than the streams and stuff.
Mr Turbo He dedicated another channel to the live streams. This channel is now solely for edited videos. Initially, he was experimenting and trying to promote the other channel which was why he did some live streams here. I'm a fan of both formats. :)
