Do not lie, of course, but do not. shame or minimize people who do have ptsd who were not deployed. Even though you mention it could be something else like MST, your emphasis is on whether someone was deployed or not. Part of this way of thinking and talking serves to minimize and be dismissive of other veterans' experiences, leading to shame and stigma about what is valid trauma or not. It is not your job to diagnose. You could have had a brief message about being honest without this additional emphasis.
I believe there are more veterans not getting what they deserve than there are getting more than they deserve

I’m just confuse why there are paid private groups for veterans to seek help, Combatcraig has one and many others do. I do agree fraud is wrong, but these content creators, companies and lawyers pushing fraud than the veteran themselves. No one really happy, I haven’t seen a veteran happy at 10% Va compensation. There’s politicians that are veterans that are shamed and called out for compensation based off of non combat zone injuries, I can pull some videos for you
A lot of us had tweaked knees and backs that took years to become chronic enough to make claims if we ever even made the connection to our time serving.
Wish I knew then what I know now.

Soldier: "Captain, I have an injury and would like to go to medical (to get injury documented)."
Captain: "We don't have injured soldiers in my Company. You read me soldier?"
Soldier: "Yes sir."
Now fast forward 40 years.
Former soldier in C&P Exam.
Former soldier: "I was injured in 1980."
C&P Examiner: "Fine, show me documentation."
Former soldier leaves embittered, betrayed, and suicidal.
Unfortunately thats the case for a lot of stuff. The common thing my unit would do is say “you aren’t bleeding so you aren’t injured” so your not going to sick call or anything.
This is the truth!!! They need workers; they will not ALLOW you to go to Sick call.
Another:
"Officers don't go to sick call".
"Sick call is for troops."

If I could be 100% well again (return to my physical and mental state from before the Army), I would give up any compensation I receive.

You should never lie, but let's be honest. Thousands, if not millions (no exaggeration) of vets who have been entitled to benefits, never got them.

Yes, but a lot are also SC’d. It’s not right but if veterans can understand the reasoning, then they can combat that reasoning with evidence. It ain’t perfect.

@@TheCivDiv you are splitting hairs here. because many have a level of evidence to show but an examiner does ask the right questions or the right verbiage isn't used leading to a denial and a fight. Which I am currently in right now. I have MDD and anxiety and tinnitus in service. I started having migraines issues when my MDD and anxiety got really bad during covid. So i got diagnosed had them agree that it my MH was a contributing factor so I claimed it as a secondary condition. Got denied because they didn't check my VA records. I was just Mentally done with it so I contacted legal team to take over it. They got all info needed and submitted again a few weeks ago. I got an expedited claim notification. Did an phone C&P exam. Talking to them the VA didn't send them my medical records, they also said VA requested a tension headache claim vs migraines. I was able to pull a blue button report for them for the medical records. They told me they would take the info and submit their findings for both. The VA failed on multiple levels even after the head of the VA said they are there to help not hinder. PS The VSO I have dealt with here couldn't care less. They will submit request for docs but that was about all the help they are here.
Got a tbi and can barely use my right hand thanks to the VA. We applied and they told me I need to get over it and learn to live life with one hand. You don't have to be a vegetable to get care giver support. There are different levels. No different then SMC. If your getting care givers that means you should be getting smc, but nope its just a way for them to scam veterans to keep their ratings down
If you have the medical evidence to support your claim, you will get approved. So many people believe they have evidence and it’s really not. My friend believes a buddy statement should get him service connected or if a VA doctor diagnosis for something he recently seen the doctor for should automatically service connect him. None of those are evidenceto get service connected, but there’s nothing I can say to convince him of that
I was a medic in the active army, but never deployed to combat. Don’t act like just because a veteran wasn’t in combat doesn’t mean that they don’t have PTSD or depression or anxiety some of death and destruction that I saw in simple training “accidents “was beyond what other people could with stand. Still suffering. Yes Veterans lie like cops, lie and doctors lie, and they should be held accountable, but I agree with a few viewers that I don’t think Veterans get enough as opposed to the ones who lie and get too much.
I believe "most" Vets are legitimate with their claims. Wow, to lie about one was deployed and in combat is sad. As a retired combat Vet, bragging about traumatic events and injuries is nothing to be proud of.

There is a fine line you have to walk with the VA between straight up lying about symptoms and bringing your worst day/saying it in the way the VA wants to hear. Never lie but understand how to properly convey your symptoms that the VA can properly rate you. I believe a lot of vets think that talking about their symptoms is lying because "well I'm not as bad as that guy over there".
Today I feel ok. A week ago I was thinking hard with a gun in my mouth. Monday I flipped out in traffic. Yesterday I had to leave the VA because it was too crowded and I panicked. I actually slept last night and feel good today though. Now I wonder if I’m a fraud.
Don't let this get to you. I hope you have more OK days.

Reality!!!. Those that served that aren't into playing this game with the VA end up without the proper disability settlement. Those frauds that play the game for gain get 100%, but one day they will have to meet their maker

The fact is that most veterans won’t be happy with their rating if it isn’t 100% .
I felt like a fraud playing golf with a back rating then later that night laying in bed in agony my guilt went away. Wake up in the morning feeling better, now the guilt is back. It’s a vicious cycle.
At the same time, do NOT underestimate your pain.
This is so accurate. I comment on other creators that talk about veteran’s benefits as if everyone should be 100%. It’s just simply not the case. People want the money but the ones who lie to get 100% don’t know that the ones who do get paid at that level would love to be able to work, go to large events, or even have steady mental health. (Not to mention amputees and those disfigured or blind from combat) I guess what I’m trying to say is that the creators that are making it sound glamorous need to step back. Semper Fi. There are literally groups online coaching service members how to game the system via Tik Tok, Reddit and other platforms. Just research it. Makes it harder for vets to get their just due.
I totally agree a 💯 percent with you. And those bad apples make it harder for everyone else. Always tell the truth. Because lies don't get better with time, and the truth always comes out into the light. Enough said.
With all due respect Devil, Kuwait was DEFINITELY a REAL deployment! Tent city when I arrived in 2003, February, had nothing but a tent city with no hot water or air conditioning. It wasnt until after the war ended, in late March, that they even put in hot water and a/c. It was no cake walk. Scuds were getting launched over your head, and you were trapped in bunkers, not knowing if patriots would take them out or not.
All in all, though, I dont rate PTSD for it. Never tried because it didn't cause me that lrbel of trauma. It WAS a real theatre, though for Marines.
Abe, agree and the trip to Mosul was full suck. However, I do remember the scuds getting smacked and the Canadian who go blasted out of the sky by the Patriot. I lost 12 in all and yes it bothers me but not like these tool bags that should not get 100% from gaming if you see a vet gaming report them as a BF. Period
Your experience was real and so is what happened to you. Please know that and not all trauma happens in the military under deployment or in theater.
I agree 😂 my ‘deployment’ to Oki was my hardest one yet. Why? Because at that time I had kids. Much worse than Afghan/Syria.

I believe that calling someone out for embellishing on mental health is a slippery slope and should be taken very serious. You can't really get inside one's headspace and tell what's going on up there. I believe it is all subjective. It's like rating a pain from 1 - 10. One person may rate a pain as a 4 while someone else would rate the same pain as 8. It's different peoples perspective. I, myself, do not do good on those questionnaires that require a Never, Sometime, Most Days, or Almost everyday response. It's because my mental state is all over the charts everyday, and I have trouble keeping things straight and a mental log, especially when I don't know when I am going to be given one of those questionnaires. I had a C&P examiner give me a 100 question questionnaire and told me to answer it. No guidance other than that. Sat me out in a busy lobby full of people walking around with a lot of noise. Very hard to concentrate. After I was done, I turned it in and later found out that because of the severity of my answers, I must have been embellishing, or as I took it, straight out lying. I let me therapist, whom I see every week, and my psychologist know about this and they were floored. They know the severity of my condition. I called the director of the mental health department of that VA center and stated that I wanted to file an official complaint on the examiner. I was sent some forms to fill out and I reported what parts that the examiner mis-stated, there were several on the C&P response form, and to fill out what the real content of the conversation should have been. I was willing to take it all the way to the Secretary of the V.A. if need be. I was furious and nobody questions this Marine's integrity.
Now, if the veteran is saying that they were in combat and that was the cause of their PTSD, but they were never in combat, that's one thing. Remember, PTSD is not always caused by combat conditions. There are several ways a service member can get PTSD and be service connected to it. Hell, someone could get PTSD from just having the crap scared out of them getting off the bus and onto the yellow footprints...

I’ve personally seen some of this . PTSD claims for “ folks “ that heard a rocket in Iraq & Afghanistan basically. Shameful . Look I’m all about getting what you deserve & I don’t care if you were a cook or a navy seal , but when you lie and embellish it’s bring shame to all of us .
Thank you...ive been stewing for years with depression/ tinnitus but only went for the tinnitus. So i started seeing a therapist for my depression and i think i will file for it due to PTSD from MST. All these years later its eating me up because back then they didnt really acknowledge it. I wont embellish but i at least would like help with my medications and an ID, i carry around my DD214 for ID

My generation stayed away from doctors. It could deny enlistment, cross training, assignments, etc.! We are paying for that now due to lack of documentation!
@@speedracer2336 Yep. Got a TBI on an aircraft, went to the hospital, got sewn up, and went back to work. All the other industrial type, not combat related injuries, we just dealt with for fear of being put out or discarded. Nobody went to sick call. Ever.
Moral of the story. DONT GET GREEDY! Almost all of these “vets” who get prosecuted end up getting in trouble because of greed. Get rated for what you deserve. NOT for what you THINK you deserve.

Great video Clay . I agree that there are some veterans who do lie to get the benefits they think they deserve because they served. I can only hope that most have morals and believe that one day they will be held liable for whatever actions they choose.
Appreciate that video Clay - that needed to be said. Another thing if that veteran is found guilty, he will have to pay all that money back with interest. Plus, I’m sure his rating will be reduced..
Most get minor jail time, and are ordered to pay all that back and they will I assure you same as over payments. Yes if convicted you will be following a felony and yes you lose all including any benefits. This guy screwed his kids and that bad. I work investigations and its easy to find fraud if its warranted. Most will spill the beans if we ask and then its easy to convict and move forward. My issue is many thinks its innocent. It is till the Vet, wife and 7 children are impacted. Think about how would you pay this? AS a convict what job? Not worth it but seen daily
I have said this before. If you served honorably and with integrity, why would you do something unethical? Don't screw it up for your soul and your name and your legacy. Most of all don't screw it up for me and other fellow veterans.

When will the C&P examiner and VA be held responsible? They can write whatever they want during the exam good or bad which is their own fault. I get this guy lied about where is was located but why wasn’t that even looked at during the process and they would’ve know and it wouldn’t have gotten so far. The claim process is months upon months this guy should lose his benefits and move on with no charges. The VA should’ve had their shit in order on the veteran when they file a claim. A veteran doesn’t control the money nor the process and the VA should be spending all their funding cleaning up internally VS going after vets we are only the 1% of the population.

I agree with you this was a ball dropped on the VA and CnP. The record should have shown deployments.
Sometimes we do just do stuff that must be done despite the pain that we battle through while doing and it will experience sometimes for days after completing.
It's almost a requirement to 'play the game.'
If during a C&P exam the examiner hears "I have good and bad days." They document it and the VA rater's default is 'good.'
I agree 100% because it makes this whole process become more scrutinizing. I tell everyone "don't lie". It gives the out sourcing examiners the idea that we all lie, and then they become critical of all of us.
It's a vicious cycle that becomes them versus us.

My anxiety/ depression vary all the time. From ready to give up life to just being anxious. Am I embellishing when i say there are days i can’t leave the house, but lately felt better from the depression? Are we allowed to feel better? I am 90% but get TDIU 100% P&T, i feel guilty when my symptoms seem to get better, then a week later they are back strong.
I’m the same way. Some days are better than others but I have more bad days than good
I feel more downplay issues especially something like pain. I have an extremely high pain tolerance naturally and if we use that typical 1-10 pain scale I consider blowing everything out in my knee and it instantly being the size of a basketball a 10. So when I say my constant back pain is a 2-3 and flares to a 5 or 6 my wife reminded me recently when I was in the hospital that I have to answer like someone that has never experienced injuries like I have.
To be fair, experiencing symptoms due to an existing condition (even once) is enough to speak about it. Clay I think you’re blending (outright lying vs how consistent a symptom appears). Where the veteran did wrong was claiming housebound to begin with and indicating that he requires to be cared for (bathing, eating, going to the toliet). The person didn’t stretch the truth they outright lied

If I’m having a rare good day at my exam that should not be held against me that doesn’t accurately reflect the pain I deal with on a daily basis once in a while I feel OK and I am grateful for that but in no way should that reduce my rating One good day out of 30 doesn’t really sound like much so don’t rate me on that one good day
Agreed. I was rated 0% for shin splints, even though it’s in my Army medical records, because I can bend my knees, while forced even though it hurts. It’s a horrible system.

I think the VA forces vets to exaggerate. If you qualify for 70% it seems the VA will rate at 30 or 50%. So you have to up sell your symptoms. Just my opinion.
I myself am rated, but I also have another 100% veteran living with me who over the past year has died 6 times from heart attacks but keeps on kicking. If they investigated him they'd see him out walking or driving. I have not registered as a caregiver, but this guy needs eyes on him constantly. Stories like this is why I don't go through that process.
I have always told the truth and now I’ve realized why I’ve had back issues and other problems that I never thought about been service connected

I will never diminish someone’s mental health symptoms, even if they weren’t in combat.
However, I do believe he embellished the severity of them.
To me, being mentally healthy during service isn’t evidence that someone doesn’t have PTSD.
The whole reason veterans “get” PTSD after they get out is because they have a drastic change in environment when they get out.
Obviously the actual onset of PTSD is the stressor, the event that caused it.
But veterans often don’t know they have PTSD until they get out.
I was in denial about my PTSD for about a year before I filed a claim for it.
Trauma bonding is a thing, and there’s other factors too.
Bottom line, it sounds like he embellished his symptoms, but just because he never went into a combat zone doesn’t mean he doesn’t have PTSD.

Let's call out the real problem! It's the rating schedule itself.
From 0% - 70% the increments are from 100$ - 1700$??? Respectively. Or somewhere around there.
Then from 70% - 100% it more than doubles to 3700$ If you make 100%.
There lies the problem. The system is encouraging (nay) begging people to hit that 100% mark.
Let's also not forget, there is SMC, dependence, what not. Which boosts that payment even higher!
The whole rating system needs an overhaul and restructure.
I believe they're doing just that (this month) for some disabilities. Some people say the new one is good, some are saying its bad, and I am just sick of the hamster wheel that is this whole process.
In all, am I surprised that veterans are lying? Nope. Do their actions make it more difficult for people with real issues to get rated? Absolutely!
Blame the system that we are forced to work with and fix it. My tinfoil hat tells me its purposefully made this way to keep a knife to your neck. (Legally speaking of course)

I haven’t ever Exaggerated my symptoms and wasn’t property Diagnose for my Pain and back issues. I now have been diagnosed with Ankylosis spondylitis. What should I do.
those of us in Okinawa and its outer islands in the late 60s were in Occupied Japan, Okinawa and although there was no combat, we were stationed among angry people who are still angry today with us being there. Main Japan islands returned 1952. Okinawa and outer Ryukyuan Islands were occupied until 1972, There were many incidents of non-combat trauma along with exposure TERA. I was on Kume Jima for all of 1968 remote isolated on my records.100 usaf and 15 navy in the east china sea.
I saw a guy once who got PTSD with 100% from boot camp.
hell i could of claimed that i was at parris island for a whole year lol. thinking about the shit drill instructors did to me specifically i could def claim it. but i never would.
Can I get a nexus for service injuries that happened 20 years ago? Any advice? I am still waiting for my records and gathering evidence. Recently just filed Intent to file.
You can just work on it
1. Is the injury documented anywhere in any of your military records? (It took 10 months for me to get my records.). 2. Do you have any witnesses to the injury or event or of your symptoms while in service? 3. If the answers to both 1 and 2 is yes, then file before your ITF expires, even if you have not received your records by then. It’s better to file a fully developed claim, but if you don’t have your records by the theme your ITF expires, then I’d file the claim anyway. This will preserve the date and you can get backpay.
This is sound advice thanks. I have leg pain and jaw pain. Went to medical for both situations. I also have back pain. I am gathering what I can for now and will file in the next month with or without my records. I know that there is evidence there, but it's been so long. Hope to get approved so I will not have to spend so much for medical treatment and care.
@@jrdoza1980 hey, I got out in 1983 and in 2022 I decided to file for the first time. It took 10 months to get my records, but they had them.
I personally know at least three Air Force veterans who are getting 100% P&T because they greatly exaggerated their situations, especially mental health issues. I believe most people don't lie about it, but there are certainly some who do.

Look at the Florida Army vet that claimed PTSD and not being able to walk without a cane or lift more than 10lbs but was a bodybuilder that posted his progress all over social media.
SSI and VA Healthcare are like “Medical Insurance Entities”. You are receiving a Claim Benefit. If you have been fraudulent in information provided to receive those paid benefits…. And eligibility questions come up…you CAN be investigated.

Back in 76, I never heard of the VA and you never went to the the ER or you were labeled a sick bay commando. Fast forward to today, you start hearing about what the VA should be doing for you. I still feel guilty sending a claim, I will always say that there are so many current vets worse of than I am, those with no arms or legs so I don't have the right to even complain about a simple claim.....
I feel the same way, there’s a lot of veterans worse off than I am. I feel lucky to have made it back alive. I was on the orthopedic ward at Bethesda naval hospital for one year.. everybody in the squad bay was missing limbs, except for me. my left arm and hand were mangled. I was left-handed. Now I’m right handed I have bullets through my lungs right next to my heart that are still there. But I still feel lucky to be alive. all in all the VA takes pretty good care of me.
It’s called peace time PTSD, yeah, its an issue. Just another version of stolen valor . . .
This is just ridiculous, thats the problem, some people really want to milk the system. I have so many things on my records, and people always said “apply, apply blah blah” but I can’t ask for anything if I KNOW FOR SURE I won’t qualify yet. Would I tell them my symptoms on the worse day? SURE! But I’ll be very afraid of exaggerating and loose it all. That’s why I won’t use any companies, because your benefits could be put at risk if they’re under any fraudulent investigation. I use all VA Doctors and I would not just pay for letters from any random “doctor”.
That's probably why some veterans never get the 100 percent because we go about it the right way and maybe later get an increase due to having served in theaters, medical evidence, etc. I started from 10, 30, 60, 90, and now trying for a 100. Going about it the right way will guarantee no fraud and possibly stay at the rate we deserve
All my claims have been due to service or secondary to service, which during the C&P exam, I make sure that I state that it has been an ongoing thing since time in service with the evidence. As much as it is easy for others to BS the system, there are those who are afraid or don't even want to put the time in due to being denied or fear of denial.

I get that in this case, this person appears to have exaggerated, the caregiver, aid and assistance was unecessary. However, mental conditions do wax and wane. Also, PTSD is not always due to combat. Sometimes my PTSD flares and im pretty bad off for several montgs and dont leave the house and have problems with self care. However when i get through these times, i may have a few months where things are a bit better and i can shovel my driveway and mow the yard. I dont have 100 percent for my PTSD, but when I was initially rated, i absolutely qualified for 100% but was inexplicably evaluated at 50. We shouldn't judge someone for feeling better and doing a few things. But i will say in those cases a/a should not have been claimed. We will see how this plays out. Wish we were as mad about veterans getting denied or underevaluated. But those in power enforce the rules i guess.
I imply from the report that the PTSD claimed is from combat-related experience. I could be totally wrong but due to the language of the report, I bet it was. Keep in mind that this veteran was charged and this isn’t the conviction. So evidence may not be public…at least to the extent of me reading this report.

Reported by a spouse, friend, neighbor, etc... If you counter your claimed conditions by your actions it's fraud. Problem the VA need to establish that like SS does. And that's being worked on. Also, many will be caught up in the AI trace being used. E.g., same IMO as another like copy-paste. If one does these things it's a matter of time. P&T say do not worry, and that's the population being looked at.

It's funny, I am a veteran and civilian social worker. The only thing I know to be true is if I treated my civilian clients the way the VA treated me. I would at a minimum be sued and quite possibly fired. Everything about the VA process is humiliating. Starting from the point you walk into the building to begin the process. If you simply raise your voice in the VA office they will make a note in your file and kick you out of the building. If I talked to my clients the way the VA assessors talked to me there would be hell to pay. My advice is record every single meeting with the VA assessor on your phone and it will sound more like a interigation vs a mental health or physical assessment.
In my honest opinion. Veteran’s never lie. Keep the vet line strong. Every veteran deserves 100%.

I don't really know much about the rest of the VASRD, but I know my SCD and how it's rated in the VASRD. I can't speak for others, but I can sure as hell speak to mine. Point is, every Veteran's disability claims is a conversation between they and VA - that's it. Nobody has to prove anything else to anyone.
Veterans have to live also. Many Veterans have to grind through their daily disabilities! That Veteran could climb up a ladder one time, then be laid up for a week afterwards. They might have taken their pain meds or double the dose just to fix something on their house. Do you know how much it costs someone to fix things these days? They might be able to fix it while enduring a great deal of pain, but that one time event does not mean you can maintain substantial gainful employment! Like a 40 hour work week. More power to a Veteran trying to do something to keep going!
It's the VA Raters fault. He wasn't even service connected. What a joke. The government needs a overhaul.
It goes both ways, VA contracted examiners lie and or downplay symptoms. I’ve experienced it with an ongoing claim since 2017. I have relevant evidence to service connect my condition but because of a bad VA contracted examiner that decided to lie and omit evidence in his condition DBQ and medical opinion, I’m still appealing this claim. I know I’ll get it service connected as I have sufficient evidence, I shouldn’t have to had dealt with this. I do see why veterans can and do embellish their conditions and I see how they’re encouraged to do this. For me it’s all evidence, either I have it or I don’t. That determines whether or not I get my conditions service connected and rated.
Your knowledge just on a few items has helped thousands of veterans - think turn the page and step in there shoes and go to there house and live for a month or 2. Don’t throw gas on the shit fire 🔥 that is everyday trying to get help. Plus the one going after those vets don’t have the strength to carry a laptop case and have never been on the military WTH man!!!!!!!

Just like an IRS audit…. You legit never know when your time has come. So be as truthful as you can. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. As much as it sucks to say, that’s how it is (someone here denied for almost everything they’ve ever submitted with clear evidence).
VA Health providers are on the look for fraud. Many vets get caught this way. Not all will do time but will lose all benefits same as dishonarable.

But I deal with veterans everyday and have to assist there family to get what benefits we can, to add I have barely left my house in almost 8 years. This case seems very cut and dry with what he's claiming and what hes capable of doing...Don't fully get how he got 100% for PTSD without proof of a stressor.....Lots of Vets have anxiety or depression based on physical pains or injuries which do not require the stressor....Vets trying to get SC for hearing is i blieve the worst....They put you in a perfect condition of environment not taking into account of everyday life and background noises and being able to hear or comprehen words or sentences which is why most vets get 0% for hearing.
Right what he is saying is shaming and minimizing, leading to other veterans to internalize this message and possibly end their lives. Your symptoms and experience are valid. No one can understand the impact of what you go through and how it impacts you and your life, that is why people go to the doctor for help. This is a sign of strength to get help, and only doctors and behavioral health professionals diagnose.

Florida has always been a Retirement Mecca. There are some pretty good VA Hospitals and CBOC’s (Community Outpatient Clinics). So yep… lots of DAV Plates.
Ditto with Ft Bragg. TONS of OIF/OEF/OND Combat Vets from that area. Going to have lots of DAV Plates

I was told to tell the truth and if your really hurt just tell them the truth plain and simple. Now they can say you’re lying but it’s your job to tell them the truth and get evidence. Lying is bad and something we all SHOULD NOT do. But, I will say that every piece of advice I received when I was doing my VA claims was that we should explain our problems as if it were the worst day and not the best or average day. This advice taken literally can and will likely lead to embellishment. Just my $0.02
I hear ya. We should be telling them of our worst day issues. Having IBS sucks but if I had a good day on my C&P exam and said I felt great, I wouldn't have a rating. Having notes of episodes throughout the year shows that you're living with crap you never asked for. Wouldn't wish this on anyone. All the best to you 🤙

Of course they do. I know people who twisted their ankle got out and get 100%. I was blown up twice have tons of issues and have fought for almost 20 years to just hit 90. Was just denied a condition even though it said we see a connection they denied it because there was no connection.
