Mystique like Wolverine has suppressed aging. She reaches adulthood at a regular time, but she stays in her prime age for much longer than a regular person.
the reason mystique looks young is because hank says in x men first class when he takes her blood that she has a slower ageing process and even says she can be 40 and still look like a teenager
Yeah, and considering how some things in the rebooted timeline have repeated (Logan undergoing weapon X) it could be that at some point in the not-rebooted timeline Magneto helped out Xavier.
It's so funny. On paper, First Class shouldn't work. It's a prequel in a complicated continuity that dramatically changes several elements of the titular work. But First Class is an example of a good script and director making a terrible concept great. Another example is the Lego movie.
Funny thing is it doesn't work. Erik and Xavier have no societal rapport to speak of, Xavier is a college fratboy and a giant hypocrite, McCoy wants to get rid of a mutation he can cover up by a pair of shoes (his friggin' boss didn't even KNOW he was a mutant!), none of the secondary characters get any proper development or motivation and when they do it's stupid, Shaw's plan has zero logical conclusion (I support mutant supremacy! *Nukes Mutantkind to near extinction). Did I mention there's NO mutant discrimination in this film at all? It can't even get the origins of the X-Men right.
"Erik and Xavier have no societal rapport to speak of" Wrong. Xavier tries to help him and attempts to put him on a better path, they clearly like each other's company when they train together, but Erik's past and obsessions have the best of him and he forms a different ideology from Xavier's... Because that's the fucking point of Professor X and Magneto's relationship. McCoy does what he does because he's sick of hiding. Who the fuck enjoys being seen as an outcast freak? "Shaw's plan has zero logical conclusion" Xavier said that the event of the nuclear era increased the birth of mutants and Shaw himself says that mutants are "the children of the atom". It's a comic book movie, radiations and science don't work realistically. Like everything else in a franchise about superhuman people. Also, the reason there's no mutant discrimination is because it didn't start yet. Only in "Days of Future Past" when they exposed themselves in Paris people finally believed Trask and accepted to build his anti-mutant robots. It's a prequel, it takes one step at a time. But even then, every mutant that exposes themselves is treated like a freak to experiment on (like Erik as a child) or an outcast and they must either run (like Mystique did) or hide (again, like McCoy). "No discrimination" my ass. "None of the secondary characters get any proper development or motivation" ...Oh, sure, because in the other X-Men films Toad, Sabertooth, Ice Man, Colossus and Lady Deathstrike were SUCH deep, flashed out, complex characters that went through mindblowing arcs! ...No. These are the X-Men films for ya, pal: they focus on four or five characters, all the other mutants are just there to look cool and fight, it's "good guy's mutants vs bad guy's mutants", what's so hard to follow? I got no problems with the characters in this movie especially, at least the kids in "First Class" had some personality and I could tell them apart, unlike the earlier films where they're all clad in black and dull like Halle Berry's awful Storm. And to give this movie credit, at least they flashed out Mystique more and made her a multidimensional character, before she was nothing but the "sexy henchwoman". "First Class" isn't a cinematic masterpiece, but it's one of the best X-Men films and deserves this deeper Superhero Rewind appreciation.
Wait wait. Erik didn't say get naked. He said don't hide being a mutant. She could have took his advice with a pantsuit. She saw power in taking it to the extreme. I don't see any difference between don't cover up a tiger and don't tell it to hide its stripes. That whole part in this review is like he's trying to find a point of offence when he isn't even in the group that it would offend.
Couple of responses to the points raised in this video. 1) Xavier is walking in Origins: Wolverine because he transferred himself into his comatose twin brother P. Xavier at the end of X3. As that is his twin's body they can use the same actor but Xavier's legs are no longer paralyzed. 2) Beast's serum was likely to give him the ability to hide his feet and make them look normal when he wasn't actively grasping something. So the line about changing appearance without powers does make sense. After all, if he had been able to gain a measure of control over Mystique's power, that would let him alter his feet at will. 3) How did Xavier master his powers with no one to teach him - very simply, he's a genius. There are just people like that. You may as well ask how Mozart learned to compose music at age 5.There aren't MANY people like that, obviously, but that's why Xavier goes on to start a school after all. 4) How did Shaw master his powers - Shaw's power is passive and always on, there's nothing to really master. Sure he may have needed to practice releasing stored energy but the very nature of his power meant there was no way he could hurt himself trying, so practice would be pretty easy. He could even punch a wall or stab/shoot himself, or blow himself up, to learn the finer points.
It's Hank who confirms Mystique's cells age at half the rate of the average adult. What pissed me off most were the reviewer's negative comments to the characters. I actually prefer these mutants to the original five from the comics. They are more diverse and interesting to look at, unlike the homogeneous first class from the comics. Something the reviewer forgot to note was that Mystique also filled the role of female redhead. Another obvious and more superficial parallel to Jean Grey. Angel Salvatore was so sympathetic and rich, just like Mystique. I found her far more interesting than Warren in the comics. I take her as my Angel over the other rich boy. Havok was interesting too, I liked him more than Cyclops in any media. His relationship with Beast was it's own redemption tale with some similarities to Shaw and Magneto's struggle, albeit with a more positive outcome. Havok was a bully and the partial catalyst for Beast's transformation. He accepts Beast once he has gone bestial, they learn to co-exist in the same team, thus becoming friends. Likewise, Shaw was the catalyst for Magneto's ideology and was accepting of him despite their enmity, giving him the chance to return, but they never learn to co-exist. Anyway, to me these guys are my first class of X-Men, not those fools from the dull and boring teens from the comics. This is how the X-Men should have been from the beginning and example of how derivative works can sometimes surpass the source material.
I like the way the handled raven in the next movie even better. She's sort of a combination of both of her mentors. She does want to live peacefully proof with the line "I don't want a war." And I genuinely beloved her. But if people hurt her or her kind she will take action like freeing those mutants from Stryker and having in my mind a justifiable reason to wanting to kill trask. Yeah it's wrong to kill and I'm glad she came to that conclusion but I can understand why she would feel the need to.
Actually Logan, Mystique's aging was dicussed in First Class, when Beast is examining her DNA and says that when she's 40 she'll still have the appearance of a teenager
This was a fantastic review. It really made me want to rewatch this film soon. You brought up certain aspects of the film that I never noticed and other ideas that I've thought of were expanded on. Keep up the great work.
I'm not even 10 mins in and how has this channel not blown up, this video is so far ahead of its time it must have just passed everyone by I didn't realise it was 10 years old until he spoke about Days of Future past not being released lol
I do have a question about a continuity error DOFP made. So forget Wolverine went back in time and we were in the original timeline. Mistique kills trask and is captured. She gets tortured and her blood is used to make the future sentinels. Ok, so how did Mistique escape? Did they let her go? I think if they had a mutant who could turn into anyone, they would lock her up tight and kill her off when they didn't need her anymore. And if she escaped, you would think she would have gone after them to see why they took her blood. Magneto gets locked up inside the pentagon for killing the president. How did he escape from there originally? Quicksilver didn't help him escape in the original timeline. So how did he escape? Also, is the toad in this movie the same toad from the first x men?. Does he not age?, is that meant to be his dad or something?
Whoa Cap you really overthought that Mystique don't cover up thing. Erik just meant don't cover up your mutation by pretending you look like a normal human all the time.
William Avitt No, he's just saying that she needs to accept who she is and stop trying to hide it by pretending to be human. Her "stripes" are her blue skin and scales, and she doesn't have to hide that by pretending that she's just a normal human. Erik doesn't say "You should be naked because that is who you are, so stop hiding." That would apply to every single person in the film. Notice when Hank shows up with blue fur, Erik doesn't show disappointment that he isn't naked, but rather approval and acceptance of Hank because he is in his true persona. Mystique being naked is just her interpretation of what he said.
It could also add a legacy dynamic to Scott. His father was the first leader of the X-men and so Scott feels that he has to live up to the family name. It would also helps explains where he learned to be a leader in the first place and why Xavier would chose him over anyone else.
To get a feel about what Tiger and Bunny is. It is set in a futuristic city where people called "Next," use their special abilities to protect the people as superheroes, they fight crime whilst promoting real life sponsors, and acquire "hero points."Their activities are documented on the popular program "Hero TV," which picks the "King of Heroes" in a yearly ranking. Our main heroes are, the old-fashioned "Wild Tiger" and the rookie hero Barnaby Brooks Jr.
I've always really liked Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier individually, but their relationship is also very fascinating. They care and deeply respect each other but their life's circumstances have brought them to such drastically different world views when it comes to mutant kind, and what may or may not be realistic with human kind. In 1944 Erik and his people were being persecuted, while at that same time Charles lived in a mansion and was accepting a stranger into his life so willingly, and in part it's because he had an abundance of resources. This film perfectly encapsulates why Professor X is such an optimist, while Magneto always saw humans as dangerous and evil if left in charge. It's their film, and you completely understand where Erik is coming from and can get behind him on his journey to get revenge against Sebastian Shaw, who isn't that different to him at the end of the day. Everything else in this film is good to great like the usage of Azazel, Erik, and Charles' abilities in ways we actually haven't seen up to this point, even by characters with similar abilities. Sebastian is very threatening to individuals and his cunning nature in manipulating both the US and the Soviet Union made for such an interesting antagonist. He as well as pretty much everyone else is very well written. And I like how if you do the math Charles, Erik, and Raven would be in their mid 60's to early 70's but because Beast says in this movie that Mystique's cells age half as fast as a normal person's, it makes sense how she appears to be in her 30's in the X-men trilogy. Lastly that third act is so well done, and Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Romijn's cameos in this were just the best! It's a 9/10
Wow amazing review man!!!it was like everything i wanted to talk to someone about the film with!!addressed almost everything i can think of yep pretty much :) nice one lad!!
I'm so excited to see a return to classic rewind formula. Not that I didn't like the new way of doing it, but the slides/old theme are classics that hold a lot of fond memories of watching rewind all day long for me.
Watched this review when it first came out, even though the only X-Men movie I'd seen was Origins. But I finally saw this last night when I was at work and really enjoyed it, so I had to come back and watch Superhero Rewind again, now that I had some semblance of what was going on. Still haven't seen the original 3, though... =P
"Is there such a thing as an absolute, timeless enemy? There is no such thing, and never has been. And the reason is that our enemies are human beings like us. They can only be our enemies in relative terms"
wait!...so no one noticed the kid wearing shades with a baseball and glove in the left corner during the mutant search when Xavier was using Cerebro?...all three were there!..Storm..Jean and Scott...and Scott looked as if he was twelve or thirteen!
I did notice them. Havok mentioned he also had a sister, so it's possible Cyclops is the middle child. This means at the time of the first film (year 2000), these guys would be in their 40s. They should have just made First Class a reboot. I don't care about the original trilogy anyways.
I thought that was little quicksilver. He looked like he had silver hair and goggles like he did in dofp. Besides I thought Scott hadn't been born yet. I think fox is taking liberties and making Alex Scott's father and not brother.
iman rahim Even though I liked DOFP, I'm sad with how they destroyed what Matthew Vaughn created just so it would match the original trilogy. They systematically killed off most of the cast of First Class and now they're replacing Havok with Cyclops in Apocalypse. As much as I liked the movie, I still wish First Class had been a true reboot instead, so DOFP didn't have to destroy it. :(
Remember Charles helped Eric because he knew Eric's rage would one day kill him if he didn't get control of his powers. For example's Eric's first attempt trying to raise Shaw's Submarine. He was so blinded by rage, he would have drowned before he actually lifted it. I'm sure Charles knew of Eric's true nature, but Charles is a optimist. He really believed he could make Eric see things they way he does.
Forgot about that.though it's kind of bad for me, because: 1-Angel in spanish is a male name. a female version would be Angeles or Angela. 2-Angel Salvadore is one letter away from being spanish for "saving angel". Unless she's not supposed to be latina or Hispanic...i might've missed something(probably a lot :P )
That was once again a great deconstruction of a superhero film Captain Logan, tonight hopefully I'll be seeing the Wolverine in 3D and I hope to see more rewinds with you in the future.
There are several continuity issues, personally i prefer X class so it would be better for it to be a reboot than a prequel but that is just me Many of the continuity errors come from the third film, the relationship with beast why he was so out of the picture and why he had little feeling for mystique but mainly why charles and magneto came together to meet jean grey if they split so long ago
The thing about Magneto and the tiger metaphor. When he said you shouldn't cover it up I don't think he meant with clothes, I think he meant with her human disguise. He's saying that she should just be her normal blue self.
Mystique was actually around 25. She doesn't have to wear "clothes" just appear to be wearing clothes. Her white outfit in the comics is a default mode. It's the same as breathing. You just do it without thinking (most of the time). Also, giving her that dress and the long hair is extra mass that she can use to give her more body when she changes into someone bigger than her.
@Geekvolution I think something else you could have mentioned is that despite Magneto's belief of humans being the enemies of all mutants, his mother was a human. It's an interesting parallel that the calmest memory Magneto had was of his human mother and all his bad memories stemmed from his goal to hunt down mutants like Shaw. Imagine if Xavier told Magneto that the ones he wants to kill are the same as his mother. Other than that great review; I even try to do my reviews with your style.
@Geekvolution I just wanna bring this up about Mystique's aging: "You got to see this. Your genes are extraordinary, you know that? Your cells ages at the half the rate of a normal human. When you're forty, you'll still have the leukocytes of a teenager. You have the most incredible cell structure I've ever seen." I'm not sure it completely answers your question, but that quote is worth noting. Also, in the description; it's Fassbender, not Fastbender. Though that would be a funny X-Men name.
It's been a while since I seen it, but I'm pretty sure there was a scene just before the big mission where Beast talks about Mystqiue's powers making her age slower than normal.
well done, cap. I had been waiting for your thoughts on this movie/a new review for quite some time. I'm glad you went back to the original format. the full motion video was a little distracting from your analysis. Keep up the good work.
17:47.; I & almost everybody else in the theatre had no idea that that was Rebecca Romijn-Stamos until after I read it up on the inter-net after seeing the movie with my girl-friend on opening night... Clever way to get a cameo in!
here's another continuity point that aggravated me...in X-3, Beast hand turns normal when being around Leach, as in the blue and hair is part of his mutation, but then in first class, we find out that the blue skin and hair are part of an experiment gone wrong. so are we to assume that part of mystiques mutation has been transferred? or is it just another part of first class that the writers didn't give a crap about?
this is really late but I have an observation about erik's way of convincing mystique to use her real form. when he says the line about the tiger I belive he means that nobody would ever think to hide a tiger simply because it was different looking or dangerous. people agree a tiger is majestic and beautiful even in its unusual and frightening appearance. if mystique is going to get to the point where her real apearance is accepted and seen as beautiful she has to show it off. she chooses to do this by not wearing clothes in the blue form. as far as where the clothes she wears comes from its explained in the comics that she can changer her body to resemble clothes.
On the issue of Alex being an older brother by, possibly, 30 years... My old friend's sister was 29 years older than she was. As Ben wrote down below, maybe Alex is his father? Although Scott seemingly has a tiny cameo in the film as a boy tossing a football around during the 'Xavier seeks other mutants' scenario. Also, the movie addresses Mystique's aging. Hank took a look at her cellular structure (or whatever) and found that she ages much slower than normal humans.
The problem I have with the movie is the scene in which Xavier teaches Erik to harness and amplify his mutant ability. After bonding with the budding Magneto and supposedly understanding his nature ...Xavier still goes through with amplifying the mutant power. Isn't Xavier then responsible for all of Magneto's actions afterward?
It is good to see another Superhero Rewind Captain Logan. This is the highlight of this channel for me. Unfortunately, this video has a lot of No Prize Material. I won't list all but the two big ones are: 1) Mutants are humans - no really, they are at most a sub-species within humanity and even that might be pushing it. 2) Unless I missed the retcon, Mystique of Earth 616 is over 100 years old. She's Charles senior and they just chose not to mention that in the earlier films.
since days of future past just came out it would be cool if you did a rewind of the days of future past episodes of X-men the animated series or A rewind of your favorite Wolverine and the X-men episodes.
Maybe Alex Summer's is actually his father in this continuity? And I believe in Mystique's case, it's that she does in fact, age slower then normal. Apparently it has something to do with her ability to shape shift and enhanced healing abilities.
I agree with you, but what makes it awkward is that in the very next scene, she walks in to see Xavier in the nude. That's what made me think the movie was trying to explain why she does that in the other movies.
I have been watching sooooo many of these....wish I could just sit and chat with captain logan all day about this stuff....pretty much all of my friends are sick of my nerdiness
Shaw is most of immortal so he has had time, possible centuries to master his power. Xavier on the other hand has the ability to access other peoples minds, therefore he can go through the knowledge of everyone he has ever met, looking for details about how to us his power.
Really enjoyed this, you looked a little deeper into the story than I did, I didn't pick up on most of this, though I don't think I was looking as hard. Back when I saw this in theatres I didn't really enjoy this film, it may have been the continuity errors, but I watched it again recently and enjoyed it a little more, still nowhere near the top of my favorite hero movie list.
That may be true but still, it is a huge blow to Charles' philosophy of "being the better man". Perhaps he had enough faith in Eric to give him the full opportunity to make the right choice, even if it meant gambling another's life. It would've been interesting to see how Charles would have handled it had Eric listened to him and let Shaw live
Shaw destroys the Cerebro Hank built here, so it's possible that Erik and Charles may ally temporarily and work on building the classic Cerebro together.
In the comics thier aren't two different Angels. The Angle in this film is based off of Angel Salvadore (a black mutant with insect wings who can also spit acid or something) Angel is her fist name instead of her codename (which is Tempest for some reason) while the other Angle is just a codename for Warren Worthington.
Jordan Lowe That's what I thought when I first saw it. Lol I was like "why the hell is Nightcrawler red and a murder?" Then I found out it was his dad.
+Jared Thompson lmao crazy. I do hope that they input that mystique and azzazle (red nightcrawler) is the blue night crawler parents in x-men apocalypse. but hey you only can wish
Can Hank go between looking human and his Beast form, lie Mystique? I ask because in this film and the 3rd film he is see as a Beast, but in X1 or X2(I forget which)he is human
It isn't made clear in the film, but I think Charles wiped Moira's memory not because he didn't trust her, but because he wanted to spare her the burden of knowing. Tho I agree that it does bring his morals about the abuse of power into question.
I still prefer X2, but this has certain benefits using historical events in a comic booky kind of way and I love how they went with the old traditional yellow/blue suits whereas Singer's movies at times sort of toned down those aspects. I kind of wish they treated this as a reboot rather than trying to connect with cannon, but it should be a pleasure to see an X-Men film where both McAvoy/Stewart and Fassbender/McKellen are in it. When oh when are we gonna see Cyclops as a full blown leader?
Excellent review! I too hold it in as high regard as X2, despite its flaws. And I am so glad you made mention of the conundrum the filmmakers were in, in terms of pacing. Making the Xavier/Magneto relationship arc longer (stretching into 2 or 3 films) and having this flop, would have left us with an incomplete film. I think, had they cast lesser actors, the pacing would have been a greater flaw.
Once again, Cap you are amazing at this stuff, you are the psychologist of super hero films. Grade A review man, and a good film. Oh I sent you a package via mail, hope ya got it or get it soon. -Joe
Actually, the REAL reason isn't that at all (I'm shocked too). Turns out in the movie production for X3, Cyclops' death was already planned BEFORE the actor playing Cyclops joined Superman Returns.
Mystique like Wolverine has suppressed aging. She reaches adulthood at a regular time, but she stays in her prime age for much longer than a regular person.
9:18 There's actually a line said by Beast to Mystique that her cells age half as fast as everyone else
the reason mystique looks young is because hank says in x men first class when he takes her blood that she has a slower ageing process and even says she can be 40 and still look like a teenager
professor x had his power since he was a kid not that hard to believe he could master a power in 20 years
at the time you couldn't of known this but the end of X-Men Apocalypse does leave room for a longer time for when Xavier and Erik are geniune allies
Yeah, and considering how some things in the rebooted timeline have repeated (Logan undergoing weapon X) it could be that at some point in the not-rebooted timeline Magneto helped out Xavier.

...Origins takes place BEFORE X-Men 3. And even then in The Wolverine and DOFP you see twin-possessed Xavier is still in a wheelchair.
there is a line in the movie that say why raven is not ageing that much.
You have no idea just how much joy it brought me to see Superhero Rewind back with its original format. Great job as always Cap, loved it!

Hahaha, "Cyclops Shaft 5: The revenge" That is right up there with "Wolvie and pals 4: How this mess began"! good job
Actually Logan, Mystique's aging was dicussed in First Class, when Beast is examining her DNA and says that when she's 40 she'll still have the appearance of a teenager
These reviews are the best work that you do keep them coming!
These reviews are just amazing cap. Please keep it up, great job by the way.
Erik isn't telling Mystique to take her clothes off! Just that she should be in her true form.
This was a fantastic review. It really made me want to rewatch this film soon. You brought up certain aspects of the film that I never noticed and other ideas that I've thought of were expanded on. Keep up the great work.

Also, is the toad in this movie the same toad from the first x men?. Does he not age?, is that meant to be his dad or something?
Whoa Cap you really overthought that Mystique don't cover up thing. Erik just meant don't cover up your mutation by pretending you look like a normal human all the time.
No, he was definitely telling her she shouldn't wear clothes, which is why she's naked in the very next scene with Charles
If that was the case why doesn't he tell to put in some damn clothes in any film and as logan stated he doesn't want beast naked because he isn't gay
It could also add a legacy dynamic to Scott. His father was the first leader of the X-men and so Scott feels that he has to live up to the family name. It would also helps explains where he learned to be a leader in the first place and why Xavier would chose him over anyone else.
This is by far your best review cap, its pretty great.
It's a 9/10
Angel in "First Class" is based on "Angel Salvatore" a character from Grant Morrison's run on X-Men, and NOT Warren Worthington III's Angel.
Wow amazing review man!!!it was like everything i wanted to talk to someone about the film with!!addressed almost everything i can think of yep pretty much :) nice one lad!!
"Back to formula!" Laughed WAY harder than I should of at that.
I'm so excited to see a return to classic rewind formula. Not that I didn't like the new way of doing it, but the slides/old theme are classics that hold a lot of fond memories of watching rewind all day long for me.
glad to see you returning to your old format.
Lets just say I'm frankenstein's monster!
Captain Logan's Super-Hero rewind always makes the viewing of these films so much more enjoyable. Its a companion piece for me.
you're gonna need to watch them if you fully want to enjoy days of future past
I don't care about the original trilogy anyways.
that's what I say also...to me Fisrt Class was the First X-men movie!!...I've totally disavowed the previous ones!!
Forgot about that.though it's kind of bad for me, because:
1-Angel in spanish is a male name. a female version would be Angeles or Angela.
Why did Professor X say to Wolverine that he was 17 when he met Magneto, when according to First Class, he was in his late twenties?
There are several continuity issues, personally i prefer X class so it would be better for it to be a reboot than a prequel but that is just me
Many of the continuity errors come from the third film, the relationship with beast why he was so out of the picture and why he had little feeling for mystique but mainly why charles and magneto came together to meet jean grey if they split so long ago
Well, I hope Days of Future Past really will explain these errors.
perhaps, i personally prefer to think of them as separate stories
How can they be separate stories if the cast of First Class and the original X-Men trilogy will be meeting each other?
because that has not happened yet, so until it does to me they are separate
The thing about Magneto and the tiger metaphor. When he said you shouldn't cover it up I don't think he meant with clothes, I think he meant with her human disguise. He's saying that she should just be her normal blue self.
Mystique was actually around 25.
She doesn't have to wear "clothes" just appear to be wearing clothes. Her white outfit in the comics is a default mode. It's the same as breathing. You just do it without thinking (most of the time). Also, giving her that dress and the long hair is extra mass that she can use to give her more body when she changes into someone bigger than her.
33:04 It's not that Hank doesn't want to be a mutant, he wants to keep his abilities, he just wants to lose the outward abnormalities
@Geekvolution
I think something else you could have mentioned is that despite Magneto's belief of humans being the enemies of all mutants, his mother was a human.
@Geekvolution I just wanna bring this up about Mystique's aging:
"You got to see this. Your genes are extraordinary, you know that? Your cells ages at the half the rate of a normal human. When you're forty, you'll still have the leukocytes of a teenager. You have the most incredible cell structure I've ever seen."
I'm not sure it completely answers your question, but that quote is worth noting. Also, in the description; it's Fassbender, not Fastbender. Though that would be a funny X-Men name.
wasn't mutant a metaphor for the civil rights movement, not puberty
Yay we are back to how Superhero Rewind used to be! I always preferred it like this with the images instead of footage.
amazing review! Keep them coming!!!
It's been a while since I seen it, but I'm pretty sure there was a scene just before the big mission where Beast talks about Mystqiue's powers making her age slower than normal.
I'm disapointed that we will never get a real sequel to this film, this really deserved a trilogy of it's own.
well done, cap. I had been waiting for your thoughts on this movie/a new review for quite some time. I'm glad you went back to the original format. the full motion video was a little distracting from your analysis. Keep up the good work.
Yesss I've been waiting for this for ages !!
Cyclops NEEDS his own movie. PS glad you're back here Cap.
Thank you for your videos Captain Logan. Geekvolution is always here to entertain me and I appreciate it
I completely agree. Maybe there will be more room for that once Days of Future Past is done.
17:47.; I & almost everybody else in the theatre had no idea that that was Rebecca Romijn-Stamos until after I read it up on the inter-net after seeing the movie with my girl-friend on opening night... Clever way to get a cameo in!
Every time you say "In the not too distant future" all I can think about is Mystery Science Theater 3000
here's another continuity point that aggravated me...in X-3, Beast hand turns normal when being around Leach, as in the blue and hair is part of his mutation, but then in first class, we find out that the blue skin and hair are part of an experiment gone wrong. so are we to assume that part of mystiques mutation has been transferred? or is it just another part of first class that the writers didn't give a crap about?
Shaw could've learned to master his powers over the long period of time he lived considering that his power keeps him young.
lol was so expecting a pic of Cap "naked" during that whole analogy
Her character name is Angel Salvadore.

The old theme song for Superhero Rewind makes a return!
I'd be okay with waiting a little while long for Superhero Rewind so Spawn Year could be caught up.
That's a really interesting question... let me noodle it before I respond. There may be a video there!
Boy, it`s nice that Superhero Rewind`s back to it`s original format will this be for good?
this is really late but I have an observation about erik's way of convincing mystique to use her real form. when he says the line about the tiger I belive he means that nobody would ever think to hide a tiger simply because it was different looking or dangerous. people agree a tiger is majestic and beautiful even in its unusual and frightening appearance. if mystique is going to get to the point where her real apearance is accepted and seen as beautiful she has to show it off. she chooses to do this by not wearing clothes in the blue form. as far as where the clothes she wears comes from its explained in the comics that she can changer her body to resemble clothes.
Oh, and quick addendum: Pretty sure they meant for Havok to be Cyclops' father, not his brother...just a guess.
Probably the only way to make sense of the original X-Men trilogy, time-line wise, is to assume they take place ~1990.
To be fair the first X-Men establishes that Magneto was in a concentration camp at the start of the film, so it already established a timeline.
when you called it 'cylops shaft 5: the revenge i actually cried'
It is good to see another Superhero Rewind Captain Logan. This is the highlight of this channel for me. Unfortunately, this video has a lot of No Prize Material. I won't list all but the two big ones are:
1) Mutants are humans - no really, they are at most a sub-species within humanity and even that might be pushing it.
Superhero Rewind is back.
Definitely planning on it. Will do my best!

I have been watching sooooo many of these....wish I could just sit and chat with captain logan all day about this stuff....pretty much all of my friends are sick of my nerdiness
Referring to Days of Future Past of course. As much as I like Wolverine too how nice was it to see an X-Men film where he wasn't the main focus?
Before the whole Days of Future's Past that this prequel is actually a reboot taking place while the X men were young.
" I GOT A THEORY " This is the beginning of " EARTH B of FOX "
That's a really good question I hadn't considered...that would be the ultimate example of his moral ambiguity. Wish I'd picked up on it!
Hey CL you should make an exception for the Man of Steel and create an early "Superhero rewind" once the film comes out on DVD! :D
love these reviews, actual insight instead of bias opinions
In the comics thier aren't two different Angels. The Angle in this film is based off of Angel Salvadore (a black mutant with insect wings who can also spit acid or something) Angel is her fist name instead of her codename (which is Tempest for some reason) while the other Angle is just a codename for Warren Worthington.
Omg thank you smh I was like gosh does anyone read comics anymore lol
Tho I agree that it does bring his morals about the abuse of power into question.
what song is the song in the intro?
I still prefer X2, but this has certain benefits using historical events in a comic booky kind of way and I love how they went with the old traditional yellow/blue suits whereas Singer's movies at times sort of toned down those aspects. I kind of wish they treated this as a reboot rather than trying to connect with cannon, but it should be a pleasure to see an X-Men film where both McAvoy/Stewart and Fassbender/McKellen are in it. When oh when are we gonna see Cyclops as a full blown leader?
Always love your reviews captain. Nice job.
PS: Are you going to review the new DC animated movie Flashpoint?
Hey, Cap. I'm pretty sure Angels replacement was reffered to as Pixie in the movie at some point, not Angel.
I was just thinking "when is Captain Logan going to finally review First Class?"
