Technically true however, after krakoa (His first Mission) he disappeared for many years. So theoretically he could come back in like the 23rd X-men movie, and it would actually be a super accurrate representation of him and his powers.
Yea that is what happened. It gets kind of confusing because he was created in 2006 in the comic Deadly Genesis, but the formation of his team and the mission they all "died" on took place before Giant size X-men #1 from 1975, So in terms of real time he was technically pure energy for over 20 years. If you take into account that time works pretty wonky in the comic world I believe back in the original X-men days they were in their late teens/early twenties and in the Deadly Genesis book they are more mid/late 30s at least, thats still being gone for over a decade. It is completely plausible what Shaw did broke him down to a sub-atomic level and we just never see him reform and they could bring him back whenever they want.

This is definitely a great prequel of the series. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender do seem like very believable young versions of Professor X and Magneto. Not to mention the action is great and the story is solid. Did you know the same guy who directed Kick-Ass also directed this movie? That would explain why this movie is so enjoyable.

Kristen's constant "I thought.." is what fans said all through this movie. lol Yeah, there were so many changes that they decided this was a soft reboot.
They originally had plans for two movies, A Magneto Origin Story and a movie about Charles and Eric creating the X-Men together. In the end, they combined the elements from both of those scripts and made X-Men: First Class.
Can't believe that poeple who watch the first X-men and it's intro can just enjoy this stupid retake of the same sequence that break tragic cinématique moment into a goofie scene.
I think First Class was supposed to fix the continuity errors in the franchise and it seemed like it did for a while, but that eventually didn't last. Still, this is one of the best X-Men movies ever made.
This movie is the best X-Men film. The story between Charles and Eric was done perfectly, and the team building for the characters was excellent, something we never see again in other movies
This film has so many great moments, mostly McAvoy & Fassbender playing off each other. There are some glaring issues though, especially the treatment with Darwin.
Yes, this was the best X-Men film until Days of Future Past. Days of Future Past is not only the best X-Men movie but one of the best comic-book movies of all time.
Michael Fassbender is a Germano-Irish actor (German father-Irish mother) born in Germany.....that is wy he speak german so easily and he is married with a Swedish actress (Alicia Vikander)

I also always thought Jennifer Lawrence looked weird in the blue Mystique mask while Rebecca Romijn looked really cool and great. Its something with the head form maybe, the head looked to square while Rebeccas head was more slim and looked more "elegant" or whatever.
As always people have to hate on something while praising the other thing. They simplified the costume for this one because Rebecca had health issues with the body painting and the time consuming it took hours for her to get into the look which caused her pain.
@JakkFrost1 because genius one was more practically made to the body and the latter was built to add on the body. You complain that one looked fake because it was . I think you don't what correlation means because it's right there

Moira Taggert is played by Rose Byrne, who's also in Troy, Bridesmaids, Spy, Neighbors, Neighbors 2 and Star Wars Attack of the Clones. Emma Frost is played by January Jones, who's also in American Wedding and Anger Management
I’m a big fan of these actors that are playing younger versions of Professor X and Magneto and honestly I’d love it if they could become our new 616/MCU versions. Just because there still young enough to continue playing the 616 versions.
The continuity before Days of Future Past is a bit all over the place (and even still a little bit after). But to answer you question at the end Achara, the character who appeared in Origins was originally intended to be Emma Frost, but was later confirmed by Bryan Singer to not be her. She is Emma Silverfox, and her sister Kayla Silverfox was with Logan. Emma Silverfox is not a telepath like Emma Frost. They just share the ability to create organic diamond skin and have blonde hair.
The mutant that turns to diamond in Wolverine Origins is Emma Frost, though not mentioned by name. i forget in what scene where Striker is running down their powers he mentions the girl who can turn to diamond and has latent telepathic abilities. Fun fact: It's a fairly recent update to her power set that she developed the diamond skin, i wanna say it was late 90s-early 2Ks that they started to introduce secondary mutations, and the diamond skin was hers.
Simon Kinberg proved that he can do a better job as a producer than as a writer In fact, he was the one who pitched Matthew Vaughn to direct this movie, after seeing KICK-ASS
I agree with the casting critique for Jennifer Lawrence. Mystique is supposed to be dangerous. Sultry. Always with an edge of menace. I think they could have had someone bring more vulnerability, without losing all of that danger and edge.
I agree. Mystique in the original movies is Otherworldly and cat-like. She could have still been like that and yet innocent in motives and experience. Jennifer's goofy smile and slightly more chubby looks made her seem like a different person altogether. Also, in her blue form she looked like someone wearing blue paint, while the original actress looked like it was her actual skin.
Know this that when the coin went through Shaw's head, charles was also feeling the pain because their bodies and mind were connected, hence the camera cut to be recorded that way
1:25 what's messed up is that coin that he used at Magneto's level as a child he would not have been able to move it because it doesn't have enough magnetic material in it. It does have some and he could definitely move it later on at his power but I think Shaw had an idea that his powers were magnetic so he used that coin on purpose to see what would happen. By the way the fact that he killed Darwin was bullshit. That would not have killed the real Darwin. He would have either actually adapted to it or he would adapt a way to expel it. Darwin is literally fought so many strong mutants and it's crazy that he died in this. About the only character he couldn't adapt to was the hulk. His powers pretty much teleported him away because that's all that he could do against the hulk. So one way or another that wouldn't have killed him
6. The Wolverine, (2013) 7. X-Men Days of Future Past, (2014) 8. X-Men Apocalypse, (2016) 9. Logan, (2017) 10. Dark Phoenix, (2019) 11. The New Mutants, (2020)
I agree completely about Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of Mistique. Lawrence may be considered a superior actress to Rebecca Romin, but Rebecca was born to play that roll.a
Magneto should've brought Charles to the hospital first and then leave. They even had the teleport mutant there. Instead he just left his alleged friend on some shore, far from civilization apparently, with a bullet wound in spine.
True, but what I think happened was that there could have been a miscommunication. I am obsessed with Erik and Charles and I really try to break down their characters and I watched that scene so many times to try and understand it and this is what I think. Erik told Charles how he felt about wanting to be by his side and Erik doesn’t really open up often. I do believe there are parts to Erik that hates himself due to his decisions and I think when he said “I want you by my side… we want the same thing” and Charles said “ im sorry my friend, but we do not”. Erik took that as Charles doesn’t want to be by Erik’s side and I think Erik was respecting Charles decision and left thinking that is what Charles wanted him to do. Erik believes the idea of charles not wanting to be with him because why would Charles want to after he just told Erik that he blames him for his paralysis which clearly affected Erik and you can see the heartbreak in his eyes when he thinks Charles doesn’t want to be around him. Again just a theory. Azazeal was with Erik and Erik and Charles are on two different paths so Azazeal had left with Erik leaving Charles. I don’t think Erik wanted to leave Charles and I do think you are right, he should have got him help before he left but I think Erik trusted Hank and the others to take care of Charles.
Felt so happy for Kristen when she recognized Beast haha. And a 100% agree with how she feels about JLaw as Mystique. That's how the majority of the fandom feels. OG Mystique was SO ENIGMATIC. Maybe if we hadn't met THAT Mystique first, JLaw would've worked.
The absolute BEST X-Men movie ever made, sadly it didn’t do well in the box office because Origins: Wolverine really damaged the reputation of this film franchise. The absolute best part is the relationship between Charles and Erik/Magneto.
It was not the creator's idea. It was Chris Claremont's idea who was the X-men writer at the time. But it was not the original idea, he originally wanted to have Nightmare one of Dr Strange's villains to be Nightcrawler's father but the creator of Nightmare's character didn't allow that. Later he proposed Mystique be the 'father' but Marvel it is too controversial so he settled with Mystique and Azazel as Nightcrawler's parents but that was again retconed later to the one you said.
@@havok6280Sure, but they didn't contribute much to Nightcrawler beyond his first appearance, and they certainly never had an origin story in mind for him. Claremont took over writing duties immediately after Nightcrawler's debut and wrote nearly all of the stories featuring the character for more than a decade. It's just like Deadpool, as Rob Liefeld really doesn't deserve the credit for creating the character, since the wisecracking fourth wall breaking Deadpool we know and love was the brainchild of other writers.
The girl at the beach shooting at Magneto, Moira Mctaggart, did, in fact, help. The fact that the bombs didn't hit the ships was because of her. Also, the only reason that Charles is paralyzed is because he had to stop Magneto, meaning it's Magneto's fault period. He admitted it when he stopped trying to kill the woman. Also, did you forget that at the end of the third movie...professor X wasn't dead... Jean head destroyed his body, but before he died, he sent his consciousness into the brain-dead patient that, funny enough, Moira Mctaggart was looking after... Which also just so happened to be Charles's twin brother, so he even looks the same
Im sorry but its absolutely Eric who is responsible for Charles paralysis. Moira was stopping Magneto from killing a lot of humans and Eric just without much thought that ot could happen strayed the bullet towards Charles Ots a juvenile move to hate Moira, Kristen because u r thirsty for the Charles and Eric dynamic 😊
Yes, but what was Moira doing shooting metal bullets at someone she knew could control metal. She should have known that it would deflect and have no effect on him. Why did she go straight for her gun. She was reckless. Plus, she should have saw Charles getting up and stopped shooting knowing he was near Erik. Charles was behind Erik. Erik didn’t see Charles getting up and thought he was still on the ground when he was deflecting the bullets. I do think Erik is partially to blame but Moira should also be partially blamed as well. Erik truly did not want Charles to get hurt, I think when Erik punched Charles, he was trying to knock Charles out so he would stop intervening and prevent him from getting hurt. He wanted Charles out of the way to protect him. What happened was an accident but everyone putting all the blame on Erik gave him more guilt and probably will never forgive himself. And I sympathize Erik a lot. He’s my fav. I feel so bad and will defend him in any way. Plus I don’t like Moira.
11:22 imagine being the only telepath around (as far as you know) and then not only meeting another one but actually feel what it’s like to have your own power be used against you.
To answer Achara's question about Logan's girlfriend's sister in Wolverine Origins possibly being Emma Frost, yes, she was originally Emma Frost. However, Wolverine Origins is not considered Canon as the future movies constantly contradict it. So ignore that one for continuity as all the other movies did. Also, for Kristen, remember at the end of X-Men 3, Xavier put his mind in another body after the credits. So Xavier is alive.
Jennifer Lawrence was kinda weird for me as Mystique here, too. I think she feels closer to the Rebecca Romaijn version in Days of Future Past, where she shows a lot more physicality. I love that Kristen blames Moira for shooting the gun, and generally just wanted her out of the story. 😅Samezies!
This is a solid entry in the franchise. In the comics, Alex is actually the younger of the Summers brothers. It was changed for the movie because we'd seen two versions of Scott by this point but hadn't seen his brother yet. I love that this movie was centered around a major historical event(the Cuban Missile Crisis), even though it's one I've never fully understood.
A lot of the things said in the original trilogy got retconned in these films such as Cerebro's creation by Charles and Eric, Mystique and Charles past connection, Moira being a CIA agent instead of a Doctor, ect.
the thing everyone forgets is at 42:20 it was either charles kept control of Shaw as Eric moved the coin and he felt it as if it was him dying or he let shaw go to save himself the pain and risk the most powerful mutant at the time killing everyone in an instant
Finally Xmen first class easily one of the best movies James and Micheal are perfect as Charles and Erik i love their conversation outside of the CIA building when Charles tells Erik "here you have a chance to be a part of something much bigger than yourself"and the scene when Charles helps him to truly unlock his potential between rage and serenity "Theres so much more to you than you know not just pain and anger theres good too ive felt it and when you can access all of that you'll possess a power no one can match not even me"it those scenes get me everytime 😭and off course an awesome and perfect cameo from our boy Wolverine 😂Awesome reaction as always guys also Achara's looks at Kristen waiting for her to peace together that Alex is Scott/Cyclop's brother was hilarious especially when he first used his powers the headshake🤣
Different mutants having the exact same power set, especially in different eras is perfectly realistic within the setting considering how common the X gene is in this universe.
47:43 I wish to god that they kept Magneto’s final outfit in this movie throughout the franchise! Not only does it look like the original comic outfit, it’s updated so that instead of spandex and purple trunks you get this regal, final boss looking villain.
16:34 Technically, Xavier told Wolverine that Eric helped him built the one at the mansion. Which would be plausible given that the one in the mansion has lots of metal in it. And they could’ve constructed it during the time the montage is shown.
Nah bro I completely agree Jennifer Lawrence was not a good Mistique at all compared to Rebecca Romijn. She just doesn't have the same vibe at all and it isn't because she's written to be innocent here. Even in the later movies where she's supposed to be more badass and authoritative, nothing coming out of her mouth is convincing at all. She's not a bad actress I just feel like this wasn't the role for her, and it also kinda just started seeming like she didn't wanna be there. (Especially later down the line where her Mistique makeup starts looking worse and worse due to her allergic reaction to the Blue she's usually painted with, it was a downgrade in both her character and appearance...)
2:40 actually for history movies (which this one technically is), it is allowed. If they had this coin as part of the movie posters, they’d had to change it in Germany. But embedded with historical context like a scene taking place in Germany during that time, it is allowed.
It's still my favourite live-action ensemble X-Men movie. I love how Matthew Vaughn uses these characters and their powers. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are fantastic together as younger versions of Professor X and Magneto (Micheal Fassbender especially) That F-bomb from Wolverine's cameo is one of the greatest F-bombs Ive ever seen in a movie. Fun Fact: Hugh Jackman was told to improvise that scene without Micheal Fassbender and James McAvoy's knowledge, so their reactions in that scene are genuine. However, I will admit the movie isn't perfect as the prosthetics are a bit off, some characters are underutilized, and Mystique's character arc feels a bit rushed, not to mention the infamous meme of the movie, for no logical reason, killing off one of the only black characters who' mutant ability is to survive any scenario possible, nevertheless this is still one of the best movies in the Fox X-Men franchise.
On Emma Frost, she's just a little younger than the original X-Men in the comics and, when Jean dies, she takes Jean's place as Scott's love interest and as the team telepath. Her diamond form developed during what happened on Genosha which was depicted in X-Men '97. The diamond form is a "secondary mutation" which some mutants have where they have one mutant power but then develop a second one after the first develops.
20:29 Magneto adores them because they were letting their gifts loose but 20:33 but Prof.X was more concerned about the fact that they casually used their gifts without thinking about the consequences
It's gonna be said multiple times, but the Wolverine cameo is the best part, because it was completely improvised. Hugh was supposed to say something else but channeled Logan. When James and Michael looked at each other they were annoyed at having to do another take and agreed to just walk back to their marks. The whole situation played out so well in camera, they kept it.
Hey Achara, this movie basically “resets” the entire X-Men timeline and continuity. The next movie Days of Future Past attempts to reconcile the two timelines together. So you will have events that occurred timeline wise, before this movie that will not line up with the movies that occur after. So the Wolverine cameo and all of the other mutants shown or referenced in Origins don’t line-up within most of the films. Basically Origins becomes the only film that directly conflicts with what happens in X-Men: Apocalypse as well as what happens in the next movie Days of Future Past.
X-Men debuted 60 years ago. Without a doubt, it's among the most legendary of Marvel Comics. But to tell the backstory of these characters within in the film franchise was a great idea. Because in this universe, they've been around just as long. Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Kick-A**, Kingsman) helmed this one. Casting of the characters was great especially with McAvoy as Xavier and Fassbender as Lernsherr. The building of the past for Children of the Atom with history we already know in the 20th century. Putting the Hellfiire Club on screen had been in early drafts of the first X-Men film in the 90s. Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw (cold and calculating) and January Jones aa Emma Frost (superhot) were perfect too. Part of a summer full of multiple Marvel movies along with Marvel Studios' Thor and Captain America:The First Avenger. Even with the newer MCU at the time, the X-Universe on film could stand toe to toe. Your gonna love the follow up to X-Men First Class. Believe me, it will be a union and reunion to remember.

Xmen 0rigins: Wolverine and Xmen: First Class are different timelines. The timelines merge and are rectified in Xmen: Days of Future Past…which in my opinion is the best Xmen movie. Make sure when you watch it that you watch the extended version.
Fun fact about Sebastian Shaw mutant powers. Shaw is a mutant with the unique ability to absorb all kinetic and thermal energy directed at him and use it to augment his strength, speed, stamina and recuperation capabilities to superhuman levels.

@@melaniepumesWhat?
Michael Fassbender was born to play Magneto!
Preach! I prefer it over the next one! This is SO good.
No its really not.
This film has so many great moments, mostly McAvoy & Fassbender playing off each other. There are some glaring issues though, especially the treatment with Darwin.
👆🏼 What he said.
Yes, this was the best X-Men film until Days of Future Past. Days of Future Past is not only the best X-Men movie but one of the best comic-book movies of all time.
Michael Fassbender is a Germano-Irish actor (German father-Irish mother) born in Germany.....that is wy he speak german so easily

It's totally understandable and we can never truly hate Magneto.

Agreed, it's why I like Batman Begins more than Dark Knight.
I also always thought Jennifer Lawrence looked weird in the blue Mystique mask while Rebecca Romijn looked really cool and great. Its something with the head form maybe, the head looked to square while Rebeccas head was more slim and looked more "elegant" or whatever.
Jennifer's looked more like a rubber suit, even on the face, and the wig was terrible.
It's just a difference in facial structure, both women are beautiful as are both versions of the character they play.
As always people have to hate on something while praising the other thing. They simplified the costume for this one because Rebecca had health issues with the body painting and the time consuming it took hours for her to get into the look which caused her pain.
@@ghostlee6434 what's your point? How do the two things correlate?
@JakkFrost1 because genius one was more practically made to the body and the latter was built to add on the body. You complain that one looked fake because it was . I think you don't what correlation means because it's right there

She's at her best in this film, but going forward they make her much less villainous because of Jennifer Lawrence's star power.
Agreed. It’s just awkward.

And the first name Emma...

I agree with the casting critique for Jennifer Lawrence. Mystique is supposed to be dangerous. Sultry. Always with an edge of menace. I think they could have had someone bring more vulnerability, without losing all of that danger and edge.

@@ancientdemon8778 Yeah I agree. She was a much better Catwoman than Anne Hathaway, for example. Mystique should have a similar sort of edge.

I agree. Mystique in the original movies is Otherworldly and cat-like. She could have still been like that and yet innocent in motives and experience.
Jennifer's goofy smile and slightly more chubby looks made her seem like a different person altogether.

6:59 Mystique is the "father" of Nightcrawler in the current comics, since that was what the creator of both of them originally wanted
@@Navin4061 you just doubled back on what they said
One of the dumber retcons in recent memory.
Also Claremont didn't create Nightcrawler. That was writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockburn.
In the comics
Mystique could be
as old as Wolverine..
or older....
No one knows...
Which also just so happened to be Charles's twin brother, so he even looks the same
Not Kristen out here justifying her fave's bad behavior 😂
Whenever I hear "James McAvoy" I think of "Charles Xavier".
Im sorry but its absolutely Eric who is responsible for Charles paralysis. Moira was stopping Magneto from killing a lot of humans and Eric just without much thought that ot could happen strayed the bullet towards Charles
Ots a juvenile move to hate Moira, Kristen because u r thirsty for the Charles and Eric dynamic 😊

According to the X-men/Star Trek crossover novel,Night crawler travels through subspace when he teleports.
the thing everyone forgets is at 42:20 it was either charles kept control of Shaw as Eric moved the coin and he felt it as if it was him dying or he let shaw go to save himself the pain and risk the most powerful mutant at the time killing everyone in an instant

My personal favorite X-men film, as well. Been waiting for you ladies to get to this one.
Kristen - the original actress that played Mystique, cameo when Raven was in Magneto's bed. Rebecca Romijin Stamos
2:40 actually for history movies (which this one technically is), it is allowed. If they had this coin as part of the movie posters, they’d had to change it in Germany. But embedded with historical context like a scene taking place in Germany during that time, it is allowed.
That whole accessing a memory scene between Erik & Charles made me shout “Now kiss!” every time they were together 😂
It's still my favourite live-action ensemble X-Men movie. I love how Matthew Vaughn uses these characters and their powers. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are fantastic together as younger versions of Professor X and Magneto (Micheal Fassbender especially)
That F-bomb from Wolverine's cameo is one of the greatest F-bombs Ive ever seen in a movie.

This movie gave me an insight into Magneto’s mind set. No wonder he hates humans, they only treated him badly.

Fun fact about Sebastian Shaw mutant powers. Shaw is a mutant with the unique ability to absorb all kinetic and thermal energy directed at him and use it to augment his strength, speed, stamina and recuperation capabilities to superhuman levels.
there's a continuity issue with Moira, she spoke in a Scottish accent in The Last Stand, but here she's speaking in an American accent
She returned to her homeland of Scotland in the many intervening years and picked up her native accent again. An accent she no doubt worked to suppress while working for the CIA, since it would be hard enough being a wpman in the agency at that time, let alone constantly reminding everyone she was a foreigner whenever she spoke.
