    It’s insane that the only person actually _explaining how to play the game in general_ is like 40 results down.
    I have the space marines codex, I need to know what _wounds_ *mean*, what an objective *is*, etc…
    Thank you for making this video!

    It was a great video for ppl like me who are just getting into the game. There were only two questions I had. 1) How are models in a unit selected to 'die'? Is it the attacker or defender that chooses which models go and which stay? And 2) How do you keep track of which units are wounded?

    I always find it interesting that its literally impossible to explain gw rules without losing mostly everyone
    It makes sense to me because i already know, but i doubt most people who havnt played would make it 5min into this vid without being confused
    And its not because the way trevy is saying it is confusing. No matter how well you explain it, that is always the outcome

    • @johnwhite9461
      @johnwhite9461 9 месяцев назад +1

      The rules lose people because they are over complex and over written. Its not that they dont work, its that they need extra effort to make them work and the game is very demanding of mental load. Its simply offputting because, as the use of tabletop simulator shows, this is more like a system that should be run in the background on a computer while the players make the movement decisions and roll the dice, rather than a system thats going to create a fun memorable game, that wasnt hours and hours of pointlessly remembering numbers when a simpler system would never have asked you to.

      @@johnwhite9461 A big part of the problem is that they write like a textbook, not an instruction manual, so it's hard and convoluted to follow because it's written in this superfluous language. Also, they tend to word things in a strange way that leaves a lot of tactical nuance unsaid but something that people just "know"

    • @johnwhite9461
      @johnwhite9461 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@Nobleshield earlier editions were written with the aim of helping you actually understand the rules in plain language, not this tournament legalesse the rules are written in now. We used to get FAQ's, but go back and look at the old 3rd/4th edition FAQ's. Very little of it was actually explaining rules more because it genuinely wasnt clear in the rule book. Mostly, it was confirming the obvious way the rules read was the right one and players were getting all bent out of shape trying to see the opposite of what was intened, and needed an FAQ to spell it out for them and make them drop it, or FAQ's were expanding the game with new rules for making your own vehicles or new ways to play, rules for the community to PLAYTEST, stuff like that.

      Page 57 in the core rules says:
      “Players roll off and the winner is the Attacker”.
      That makes it sound like you can’t choose. And then page 59 of the rules says,
      “Players then alternate deploying their units, one at a time, starting with the Attacker” but your video says the defender deploys first. I’m confused, am I missing something?
      Thank you so much for the great content!

    Question:
    it says a unit have to be completely inside a ruin for it to ignore its blocking.
    but when shooting you do it per model.
    so if a unit is not completely inside a ruin but some models are, can the single models inside the ruin shoot as the whole unit is inside ??

    Hi quick queston about the fight phase. If I have been charged and I decide to pull away the front models to take my unit out of engangement range, could I not pile in when I fight back? This would be to stop my sqad needing to fallback next turn. My other question is if I do this can the oppoent consolidate into me anyway? which would defeat the point...Thoughts would be appreciated

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  9 месяцев назад +1

      If your unit remains within 4" of the enemy after they've attacked they'd be able to consolidate into you.
      If they don't and your unit isn't within 1", it won't be able to be selected to fight since you didn't charge that turn.

      Trust me. Competitive players don't want this. While detachments and stratagems being more broad was less limiting the reduction in rules and invalidating points for weapons and having to full reinforce a unit just feels like a dumbed down game. Also rules like towering, devastating, anti, and lethal feel out of place. Rules that invalidate other rules are risky even when done well.

    At 4:10 you say you need to measure each unit separately but in the rules it specifically states if one model in a unit can see you all of them can, meaning you dont worry about meaauring per model, you just measure the closest 2 models and then all the weapons hit as long as the distance between the 2 does not exceed the max distance of any weapon in the unit. How do i know this? Ive been to two official tournaments at the official warhammer store both of which went by this rule

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  9 месяцев назад +1

      Unfortilunately Warhammer stores aren't a great source for rules knowledge; the rules are extremely clear that range and LOS for attacks are measured from each model in a unit individually, and for each one enemy must be in both LOS and range.
      I think that's an old misconception from 7th edition.
