    So a great video man, in my LGS we play very casual, but after this video I believe most of the time we are applying the rules incorrectly, mostly who gets cover and who doesn't, which rarely makes a difference, but if someone, like myself, wanted to get to tournament level, all of this is very important.

    I might be being dense here, as I might be misunderstanding the point of your example, but the example you gave at 12:06
    Wouldn't the Custodes get benefit of cover from being inside the ruins whilst the enemy unit is not?
    Wouldn't the Custodes in the ruins be able to see all the Infiltrators? I thought if a unit is within a ruin, given nothing is blocking line of site, they could see the enemy models and vice versa?

    Dont like the part around 22mins where you had the custode tank partially on the ruin base, the dreadnaught can shoot it, but it couldnt shoot back. If the tank is partially on the ruin, it should still be able to shoot back if it can get shot at. LoS should always go both ways, the rail gun on my broadside sticks a good 2" off the base, I could abuse that like crazy.

    I just came from a game in my local club, and just had an arguement about visability from units inside a ruin. He said my unit (wholly within) a ruin could should out, due to not having holes or windows. And then a second guy came along and they kinda ganged up on me, saying that my understanding of the rule was false. But if i gathered that right here, then i m technically correct, but ppl tent to play the bottom floor closed yeah?

    Out of curiosity, why do tournaments (mainly using WTC rules) treat the ground floor as blocking line of site for units within them? ie can’t shoot in, can’t shoot out. At least from the front and one side where the walls are. Kinda defeats the purpose of the GW rule on benefits of cover, no? Gives an advantage for quick melee units jumping from ruin to ruin
    Are they looking to encourage people to flank units in buildings and/or get people to throw long range fire/vehicle units in strategic reserve, use rapid ingress and get them in behind?

  • @cientoydos
    @cientoydos 5 месяцев назад +1

    Hi, we always use wtc terrain and today we discussed a lot about wether the floor windows are closed or not, the big ruins you can buy are always closed optically, and the small ruins in the wtc rules i got are especially marked as closed with the red x. So is it all closed or not, would really make a difference i think... thank you!

    • @Rejnols
      @Rejnols  27 дней назад

      Its been a while since i played so they may have changed it. When i played all large ruins where fully closed at all levels, and small ruins where closed at the ground floor, but some variations had an upper level with windows or cracks in the wall that was played as being open.

    WAit, at 8:17 ish you said something about saves? Your opponent decides how they allocate the saves? Please elaborate.
    40k is in essence a Model vs Model game. The fact that we, in regular play, tend to do it was "unit vs unit" is an abstraction.
    If i CHOOSE to target your model outside of cover with a shooting attack, you cannot use the cover-save for that... Right? Or is there something in the cover rules that says that you can?

    • @Rejnols
      @Rejnols  27 дней назад

      Let me try and answer it quickly!
      Your Unit (A) contains = 5 models.
      Opponent Unit (B) contains = 5 models.
      Unit A has 4 models that can see 1 model from Unit B. Because the 4 other models from Unit B are not fully visible, they get the benefit of cover. Your opponent can freely choose to take the wounds from Unit A on ANY of the models from Unit B even if they are not visible to Unit A. Hope that makes sense!

    So if the tournament is using the ruins as solid walls you would not be able to move into the building with the vehicle. Is that correct? If however you were using the terrain as it is made, wiziwig and the wall part of the ruin was only 2 inches, the vehicle could move in and then through it as 2 inches does not impede movement. Is that correct? Sorry to ask.

    My terrain footprint is usually L shaped, but even if I treated it like a square, then I couldn't fit a Redemptor Dreadnaught into it wholly. Does this mean any infantry within ruins are safe, and need to be flushed out some other way?

    • @Rejnols
      @Rejnols  11 месяцев назад

      You are getting it wrong. If something is within terrain, it can be seen, so you don't need your redemptor inside the same piece of terrain to be able to shoot at them. Just need true line of sight if they are within the terrain piece.

  • @Malachiasz1983
    @Malachiasz1983 11 месяцев назад +2

    5:50 - this is one of the most convoluted and misleading attempts to explain benefit of cover. Nowhere does it say that benefit of cover can "improve your save to a maximum of 3+" or "reduce AP". Nowhere does it specify the order in which modifiers should be applier or tested because this order is not needed at any point.
    It says:
    "Each time a ranged attack is allocated to a model that has the Benefit of Cover, add 1 to the saving throw made for that attack (excluding invulnerable saving throws). Models with a Save characteristic of 3+ or better cannot have the Benefit of Cover against attacks with an Armour Penetration characteristic of 0."
    In other words benefit of cover applies if even one of the below criteria is met (no other logical test are required):
    A) If you are being shot at with a weapon with AP < 0
    B) if you have save characteristics of 4+ or worse

    • @Rejnols
      @Rejnols  11 месяцев назад

      The ordering is what matters. You apply the bonus from cover AFTER applying AP. Apologies if i didn't make that clear, but it is how it works.

    • @ValentinBaca
      @ValentinBaca 10 месяцев назад +2

      Benefit of Cover: Add 1 to armour saving throws against ranged attacks.
      Does not apply to models with a Save of 3+ or better against attacks with an AP of 0.
      That’s it. That’s literally the rule. Didn’t need the whole “ordering” explanation which isn’t even correct

    Great explanatory video. But I kind of hate how the rules shake out in the example of the custodians shooting at the dreadnought. Clear view for 4/5 guys but since 1 is behind the wall, they’re all benefit of cover shots?!?!? Wack. Would like 4 clear shots and one shot with cover. I guess that kind of nit pickiness can slow down the game.

    • @ВиталийНовиков-ъ2х
      @ВиталийНовиков-ъ2х 2 месяца назад

      The point is that the rules of benefit of cover refer to being hidden by terrain from "every" model in the unit, not "any".
      "If that model is not fully visible to every model in the attacking unit because of this terrain feature, that model has the Benefit of Cover".
      So in this situation we should check if EVERY Custodian MODEL cannot fully see the Dreadnought because of the terrain. Four of them can fully see it, so the condition for getting the benefit of cover is not satisfied.
      Getting benefit of cover this way is wrong, beacause rules for benefit of cover do not refer to not being fully visible to a UNIT (such a term exists in the FAQ though), but to EVERY MODEL IN THE UNIT. That is a big difference.

  • @seomanmax6814

    You fully wrong.
    Model Fully Visible
    If every part of another model that is facing the observing model can be seen from any part of the observing model, then that other model is said to be fully visible to the observing model, i.e. the observing model has line of sight to all parts of the other model that are facing it, without any other models or terrain features blocking visibility to any of those parts.
    I can look from ANY PART of observing model.. - for example from hand of closest model. And from this hand i see full unit - then this unit is FUlly visible.

    Would a model that is wholly within a ruin base always get cover? Or only if it’s not fully visible.
    Here’s what it says in the rule book: BENEFIT OF COVER
    Each time a ranged attack is allocated
    to a model, if that model is either
    wholly within this terrain feature, or it
    is not fully visible to every model in the
    attacking unit because of this terrain
    feature, that model has the Benefit of
    Cover against that attack.
    Also let’s says you have a model that can stick its gun past the footprint of the ruin but isn’t wholly within the footprint, can it still shoot by tracing los from the gun?

I wish GW would someday just define canonical rules for terrain and LOS and leave out the fuzzy language. We will "Roll a D6 with your opponent" when we decide to. Why is that in the rules? Lazy design.
