Love your B&W work. And your videos of Japan are marvelous!...Tug at my heart and this one makes me home sick for Kyoto...it has been 30 years. Thank you...
Dear Steven, technical perfection isn't important. A photo should evoke emotions in the viewer. Your photos evoke a lot of emotions. Thanks for sharing.
I know I always say this but, beautiful images and video again Steven. Also, I agree with you on the slightly out of focus shots. What matters is that you captured the mood and feeling and you liked the shot!
Wonderful images, Steven - in particular the trainee Geishas; it has always been a source of fascination & cultural comprehension to that most ancient of social disciplines.
Once again, Steven, thank you for sharing these amazing windows onto your culture. My wife and I will definitely come to visit Japan in the next few years, as long as the Yen stays reasonably low, we will be able to afford it. But first we need to research it thoroughly, so we understand something about the country we will be visiting.
Great Video Steven, recently I shoot with a leica m6 for the first time, I’ve been a hard M3 user, thousands rolls with combo m3 + 50/2 collapsible, using the same lens in M6 i really missing the bigger and clear m3 frameline, but in otherwise the space out the frame help me to imerse and look around, for times waiting the subject go in or out the lines for make a click!
Ps.: I have a professional lab in Brasil, the eastman XX is one of my favorites film stocks, I love the result when i use D-76 stock for 6’:45” , I’ll try this time in D-96, because it’s almost the same developer; currently I develop all B&W with D-23 and I have great results, big latitude, incredible contrast, fine grain and works well with films expired and fresh if you work replenishing the work solution! Thank you so much for passionate and beautiful images and video, your channel inspiring the people to go out, make photos and share ❤
Steven - Great vide! Kyoto - So beautiful! The Maiko-San photo @ 1:58 has a very lovely tonality...can please tell me about the technicl specifics of this shot...it seems somewhat different from the other shot in this video. Thank you very much,,,stay well,,,a keep up your beautiful work...
Dear Steven a good photo, not a beautiful photo, in my opinion, is made of composition, subject but above all "magic" and some images that you have exposed in your video are truly magical thanks, in particular, to their imperfection. Thanks for sharing them with us :)🙏🙏 I have two photographic equipment: Canon for digital and Nikon for analog whose functions are often diametrically opposed, so it is often frustrating to switch from one system to the other. Having said that in Europe 400ft of Double xx cost 66000yen so don't complain about the price in Japan :)) Greetings from Luca in Venezia Italy.
Dear Steven...May I ask you which lens do you like better? the 35mm summilux pre asph or the 8 element? How do you decide which one to use when they are both great lens with very similar quality. Do you see a big difference between pre- asph f1.4 and 8 element's f2? Thanks, I enjoy watching your videos.
The photo @ 1:57 is absolutely beautiful. The luminosity is unreal. I also have a50 Summicron DR, and I might try it on either my M3 or M6 or even M2 . I have a couple of rolls of XX-5222 left which I intend to develop in home mixed D23 without any Sodium Chloride added. My absolute favourite developer is Perceptol which seems to be out of production in the last 5 months and no real information as to when it will be available again. I guess this is also due to the war in Ukraine. The pamdemic and Covid 19 excuses have got rather thin now, time for some other pathetic excuse!!!

Great Video. May I ask your recipe for the double x film with Fujifilm SPD? I have an expired package of SPD. Could the double x be pushed to 1600 or 3200 with the SPD?
Thank you Steven for these videos. The combination of interesting photographs, discussion and Japanese culture are very enjoyable.

In the US, a 400 foot roll would be 48,000 yen.
@@bngr_bngr yes, Yen is cheaper so all things become expensive.
Do the Police or security people in Japan, ever ask that no photos be taken in certain areas?
Almost no such areas except a military base.
