One thing I love about Koudelka is that he changes not only his subject matter but his style every couple of projects. He is not as one note and some other famous Magnum and art house photographers who have done the exact same thing again and again for 40 years or more.
The combination of both Koudelka mastering photography and you storytelling is such a pleasure to discover. It motivate movement in our life. Amazing work. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for sharing the incredible story of this amazing photographer. I'm particularly struck by the level of commitment he showed in making his art his whole life. Very inspiring. Your content is top level.
WHAT AN EYE KOUDELKA HAD. NICE EDIT AND COVERAGE OF THIS GREAT CREATIVE MAN. INTERESTING HE HAD NO PROBLEM SWITCHING TO DIGITAL. FILM IS NOT KING, THE VISION IS.
I already enjoyed Koudelka’s work but having the privilege to see it at an extensive exhibition putting together Gipsies/Exiles/Prague down here in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was quite an experience, to understand how he makes us the viewers to pay more attention to each of his images, requiring an extra second to understand the details he is revealing/hiding and pushing up those same details to the light of our minds… amazing!
Again, I thought I knew EVERYTHING about Koudelka - Prague, Gypsies... I was so wrong!!! Had no idea about his panoramic works in "New Topographics" style! And hi did digital???!!! Wow! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this wonderful video, for all your research you do on each photographer you feature here.
Koudelka is my favorite photographer of all time - when I saw the thumbnail I clicked so fast! Thank you for sharing about him, absolutely beautiful video! ♡
Thank you for watching! I’m assuming you’re based in Tokyo. I come there often. Would be good to have fellow photography nerds to riff with when I visit.
@@developingtank Oh no way! Let me know next time your in Tokyo! I'm sadly not located in Tokyo any more, but further down in Kobe (right next to Osaka and Kyoto), but I get to come up for work a lot! Or if you every find yourself over here, definitely let me know!!
Another brilliant presentation of a powerful/legendary photographer . His images have the undeniable ability to grab you and cement you where you stand. Physically and emotionally. Thank you for putting this quality content out.. The world needs to see it.
Bro, I thought my eyes are playing some game. I thought you got 713k followers - the production value is great and thank you for sharing this. I love Koudelka. Just finished Holy Land for the 5th time :)
Thank you for video. I had a chance to watch “Holy Land” premiere in London. Where Pán Kudelka said “Try to survive!” To the audience before the first showing (there was a VIP showing for which we didn’t get tickets with a Q&A I believe). And there is a moment when he is trying to stand up after reloading the 17x6 camera and PanX is also around he’s neck some bag too. And he struggles… it was a very funny moment.
I just want to take a second to say thanks a million for this wonderful channel, these are my favourite breakdowns and overviews of artists on youtube. You have a wondeful skill, the production is also womdefully on point. I look forward to these so much. Your hard work is so appreciated.
Just traveling Europe by bike and stayed at a cool guys house. I found a book of Koudelka in the shelf wich inspired me even more to stay on the road as long as possible, wonder around, take photos and document. RUclips video is on the way!
You’ve created a masterful curriculum teaching us about these masters of the photographic craft. I binge-watch your videos dropping likes on each one leaving me in awe how you eloquently present these phenoms in succinct but thoroughly rich, entertaining fashion. 🙏👍💪
I am a traveler my Self and i have been photographing for more than 35years from the usa to africa throughout Europeand Asia (but the real World) Thanx for Sharing and your amazing work of cutting it all! Beautiful Report 🙌🙌🙌
Remarkable work, what a man! Thank you for a brilliant vid! These quotes: “Photography is so easy,” he says. “You just press the button. But photography is so difficult. There are some photographers, a few, who have got a vision. There are many more who have got a certain style. What is vision? It is, I think, where you were born, how you grow up, what sort of parents you had, the education you got, whatever happened to you, and how finally you get to a certain point. Style you can copy very easily. Vision, not really.” "Devastation is photogenic."" "I don’t pretend to be an intellectual or a philosopher. I just look."
I have to rethink Koudelka, as I placed him, in my mind, with the likes of Bresson and that generation. Then again, Bresson also lived to see the digital revolution. Thx for your presentation.
Every photographer I research who switched to digital says they’d never go back to film. I think dealing with film this heavily for so long takes away some of the love for it.
Again sir josef is one of my favs especially for black and white and in a sense his later work on the changes of environment..kudoss for today lesson. have a great day Mr tank
Such an enjoyable video and really well told. I have always admired Josef Koudelka's work. I think for anyone starting out and serious about photography all they need to do is study his work and ethics. I liked when he said that he owned very little and what money he would have paid on rent he spent on travel. Very inspiring.
I have little to add to what everyone has already said here, except that I will be checking the rest of the channel's videos and that I'm looking forward to your next ones. 🙌📷
Sheesh. Those images are breathtaking. What vision he has. I really appreciate your production, narration, and efforts. First time I've come across your channel. Instant subscribe.
Excellent. I'm in agreement with SlavaVeres post below - I don't think of Koudelka shooting digital or panoramic. We always see the 'big hits.' Thank you!
@@developingtank I think it's fine to pronounce internationally known names of the currently used language - you don't pronounce any of the brand names, or cities (PaRi') as they are in their original language either. That being said, should be closer to "Yozef Koodelka". And thanks for another fine video!
@andras_ikladi yeah, agreed. I lean towards trying to say artists names how they would say them, but it’s incredibly hard in some languages. The Eikoh Hosoe voice over tested my patience.
@@developingtank Just do it like in China. Recipe: 1, If it's a Western name, confuse the surname with the first name and say it transcribed to Mandarin: "Do you like the work of Yalikesi?" (that would be Alex and they mean Alex Webb, most likely) 2, If it's a Japanese name, read the Japanese kanji directly in Chinese: "How about Shenshan Dadao?" (Daido Moriyama)
Loving these series! Can you make one about Sergio Larrain? He was Koudelka´s hero, admired by HCB himself and a pretty intriguing figure in the Magnum universe.
Oddly enough, I’m working on a script for a Sergio Larrain video right now. It’s a bit hard to find enough information on him though. He was a bit elusive.
